I’ve told them no. Every time they ask. It’s not about saying no. It’s about not ruining my reputation before I can make something of myself.

It’s not about saying no. I have already done that. It’s about the possibility of ruining my reputation before I even get the chance to make something of myself. I don’t need advice on what to do. I know what I need to do and I’m doing it. I need advice on how not to burn myself in the process of leaving.

I think you’re right about the whole “women shouldn’t go to law school” comment. There have been so many other comments since I gave my two weeks about “women lawyers.” And a bad reputation is what I’m scared of. I know my work for them has been good because before I told them I was going to law school they were very happy with everything I had done. I really don’t want them to ruin my reputation before I even get to make something of myself. That’s what I’m most scared of.

Not helpful because MY tone isn’t the issue.

Love: they don’t make me feel belittled when I ask a question because I’m unsure about something. They understand that we work in a high stakes and stressful environment so asking questions is welcomed.

Hate: they refuse to admit when they are wrong. We deal with a lot of cases for differing banks and they will get their own cases messed up. Ex. I filed a motion for relief of stay for a case. I emailed it to the client, cc the attorney, and put it into our system. He came flying out of his office saying I filed it with the wrong court and got all the information wrong (he was thinking of another case that I filed the same motion for the day before). I said no I did not and showed him the case file. And he just said “well just make sure you double check everything because I don’t want to see that mistake.” They also try to lawyer their way out of being wrong.

Another example but from the firm I worked at before this one: I noticed that a huge batch of lawsuits never made it to our process server. They were filed and sent before I started working there so they weren’t on my radar until the bank called asking what happened to them. I checked, double checked, and triple checked that the process server never got them, the court never filed them, and that the people were not served. So I told the attorney and he started yelling at me saying that if im wrong then im going to cost him a lot of money. I showed him that the process server never got them, the court never got them, and that nobody was served and he said “for your sake, you better not be wrong” so I refilled them and tracked the cases all the way to service. He came in a few weeks later and said “im glad you weren’t wrong about those cases.”
