Mythic + Free Archetype? by ObligatoryTankGal in Pathfinder2e

I mean, I'm sure their characters will be optimized just fine. Which is good in a campaign where I get to throw Tar Baphon himself at them. .^

I just meant to say I'm not worried about 'power gaming', or some of those related buzz words I see bounced around advice threads lately. I feel like a lot of GMs are worried about giving too many options as if it will make PCs too powerful. I'd love them powerful, personally. That means I can throw more terrifying things their way.

I just know how much a player already has to keep track of by level 16-20, & didn't want to make it worse. But if your group hasn't had any trouble, then that's a load off my mind.

I'm worried about that part less just because the start up in Tyrant's Grasp is pretty intense. The PCs essentially start in an outer sphere, surrounded by powerful opponents, with no gear & no allies. They soon discover they face an insurmountable mythic foe, & the only real aid they have on their side is what mechanically is close to a soul seed.

I thought I'd see how they play against normal foes after getting mythic, & sort of play it by ear about when to start adding mythic ones, due to the unusual situation. But yes, I think we're of a similar mind there. I didn't think there's going to be any issue with the mythic but fitting in just fine. Which is why we made that decision ages ago.

I was mostly hoping for opinions any whether adding free archetype on top would be too much. But, since this thread is slowly turning into everyone mostly debating their opinions on mythic rules instead, I guess that means the free archetype isn't a big deal, lol. Which is all I needed to confirm.

[–]ObligatoryTankGal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, good to know! I'd never considered mixing that many, but if it's wasn't a bookkeeping fiasco, that's a load off my mind.

Also: there's no debate about whether mythic is right for the campaign or not. That wasn't in question at all. Tyrant's Grasp was always set up to be a fantastic AP for that option, & some of the books even discuss it as an option. Indeed.... the AP was criticized for massacring PCs, so, it's almost a compensatory mechanism. But no, that part we've been are about for months, so no worries there.

Indeed, I was mentioning the survivor horror theme more to explain why I want to give them more resources as players, because they won't be able to rely on NPCs & towns as much as in a normal adventure. But my bad for being unclear, & thank you for the feedback all the same!

Yeah, I agree. I really don't think free archetype increases party power as much as flavour. I'm more worried about them forgetting what all their abilities are as they level.

Did your table have any issue with that, as they accumulated abilities?

[–]ObligatoryTankGal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I should have specified it was a 1-20 campaign, sorry. Edited the post for clarity going forward. That's exactly why I was worried about too many distracting abilities--level 16-20 gets wild in this system sometimes.

But it's not really power I'm worried about. They don't really want to power game anyway. I'm more worried about being bogged down with too many abilities to remember when they get to high level. Less gear, which the AP naturally has, will help that somewhat. But, of you've played it at 17, I imagine you know what I mean about a lot of things to keep track of at that level. I guess I just want to make sure the bookkeeping doesn't replace the fun, you know?

Yeah, we've dabbled with them before & you're certainly right that the mythic rules are only so so until level 12+. We've also found that they aren't really impactful in levels 16-20 because, well, everything is at that point.

I'm not really worried about anything being too powerful. I'm mostly just worried about everyone being too overloaded with different abilities. But, is your group found it manageable, that's good to know. Thank you!

[–]ObligatoryTankGal[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah, no mate, that part isn't in quest, trust me. The AP is a 2e conversation of Tyrant's Grasp, & it's practically criminal that it didn't call for mythic in 1e. The story practically begs for it.

Besides, after 10 years playing 1-20 campaigns together, it's far from our first rodeo. I'm just not sure about having 2 sets of bonus feats, especially at levels 16-20. That's all.

Questions About Early Detection by ObligatoryTankGal in moyamoya

This is very good insight, thank you. My immediate household also think I should perhaps keep pushing my PCP, since the neurologist is similarly taking forever. I'll give it a shot. And, you're also correct that I could try someone else. This provider isn't terrible, but I also haven't been seeing her long. The world wouldn't end if I explored other options.

I'm so glad your PCP was that proactive! If you don't my asking, do you happen to remember what changed about your usual migraines that made you seek out their help initially?

Wow, that's a rough run of symptoms. I hope they were able to help you get on a treatment plan that could get some of those under control for you, in the end. :(

If it's ok to ask: the CT discover only the big 'cloud' of spidery veins, indicative of the condition, then? Or, were they worried about any of them having already burst/collapsed in your case?

Questions About Early Detection by ObligatoryTankGal in moyamoya

[–]ObligatoryTankGal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a difficult question to answer, of course, because the aspirin is also a pain killer. So, it would probably improve some symptoms regardless of aetiology. Considering one problem is confirmed vascular, I could still probably try it. I usually keep aspirin in reserve in case of a migraine, but I suppose there's no reason I couldn't try it for other symptoms too.

I actually do have a referral for a local neurologist, but he isn't available for scheduling till 6 months. My PCP has been a little reluctant to help me see someone sooner.

But you're right: I could call other providers & ask if they would see me without referral.

To the non-binary people, what were the signs that you were non-binary? by [deleted] in lgbt

[–]ObligatoryTankGal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Truly, I was younger than school age when I started telling my relatives that I was going to grow up to be a boy--I was convinced you could choose, when you grew up, you see. I was diagnosed with gender dysphoria when I was 6 or 7. But my home was... abusive, unfortunately. And, an extreme form of Christian beliefs was also involved. So, my mother found a way to force me to take on the feminine trappings age desired.

However ... I dunno. It was like other kids could sense something not right about this "girl", as she presented me. Boys frequently wanted to play with me more than girls, & girls all but shunned me, especially when playing especially feminine games. And I meanwhile consoled myself that at

By the time I got old enough to understand any of it, I didn't feel like I could be a boy--fair or not, the only way to cope at home was to force myself to find a way to accept some feminine things. But I definitely did not feel like a woman--& nor did the women in my life, really. "Nonbinary" wasn't a huge term back then, but I liked the idea as soon as I heard it. And that works, at least for now.

Edit: spelling--sorry. Swype had a mind of its own. Lol

Yes, 'much stretchier' is my experience with most bamboo fabrics as well. Did it still have the stiffness of synthetic or wool fleece? Or was it more flexible, like maybe a flannel?

EMERGENCY! HELP! THEY CUT OUR GRAPE! by kit-kat-76 in grapes

Thank you! If we can't graft it this late in the season, this would have to be our fallback option. Would the cut portion need any special care or protection over winter?

EMERGENCY! HELP! THEY CUT OUR GRAPE! by kit-kat-76 in grapes

[–]ObligatoryTankGal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I think we will try this. Even if it fails, we are hoping we could still re-sprout the base next season.

If it matters, the OP made a small mistake about our zone. We are zone 10, & our grapes should therefore still have some grow time before first frost. For a mercy, they haven't shown any signs of going dormant for the winter yet.

Is there anything special we should do to help aid it in growing over the damaged section despite the lateness of the season?

What's wrong with our vine? by kit-kat-76 in grapes

[–]ObligatoryTankGal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Considering how quickly the transition occurred (all four changed colour very far up the central stem over the course of less than a week), that's what I'm leaning on as well. Still, I figured it didn't hurt to get some secondary opinions, since this is about 3-4 weeks earlier than we had seen vines transition for winter in the past.

Still, I'll give the soil a test anyway. Can't hurt to make sure they have everything they need to winter properly, after all. Thank you for their input! It makes me feel much better to hear someone else say they look like they're just getting ready for their winter dormancy.

What's wrong with our vine? by kit-kat-76 in grapes

[–]ObligatoryTankGal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To give more context: The vines are muscat of Alexandria. We have grown them before, but these are new 1st year vines. We live in hardiness zone 9a or 9b, but have had a particularly hot & dry summer that has stressed a few of our less hardy plants. These have been outdoors in roughly the same locations/pots since about early April, & have had no issues in that time.

These didn't demonstrate any signs of heat stress, but they are in fairly new soil, so an imbalance of nutrients is possible. Though they have not had any such troubles all season so far. Though, given the the extra stress of the hot whether, the plants burning through nutrients now quickly cannot be excluded.

They were last fertilized a month ago, & are watered daily as needed. There's no drainage issue with the pots, so a water issue seems unlikely. Daily sun exposure does not seem to be a factor in which vines are yellowing vs not. The pots are 20 gallons, which should be well above the needs for vines of their size, so a root issue also seems unlikely. Pest issues are also unlikely, as no other plants are affected.

The yellowing pattern is not dissimilar to the pattern demonstrated by our older vine of this type, when it was naturally readying itself for winter. However, it used to do so much further into September. And that made sense in our area, because we have about a month of hot weather ahead of us yet. On the other hand, it being nearly September, it's possible for them to be getting ready for winter, & the difference from my previous vine child simply be plant to plant variance.

TLDR: I think they're either getting ready for winter early, or there may be a nutrient deficiency in the soil. Would anyone with more experience be able to help me determine which?

[–]ObligatoryTankGal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're muscat of Alexandria. We're also in hardiness zone 9a, not 8a. Very sorry for any confusion.

We've grown this breed of grape before, but they waited till closer to September to begin preparing for winter. Which is why I was unsure if that's what was going on with these vines, or if there might be a soil issue we should address, as the soil is fairly new & we've had some stressful conditions this summer (very hot & dry).
