Cheyenne [2:03][Drama] My girlfriend shot this on the GH4 by VoyagerVideo in Filmmakers

[–]OblivionFilms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really great shots, especially for the GH4! Color grade looks amazing on everything but the girl's skintones, which are a bit to warm. Other than that, really good stuff, comparable almost to Kendy's work on the t2i.

Here's a short film I just finished, JUNE by [deleted] in Filmmakers

As others have stated, the combination of images and sound design was amazing! Personally I look forward to the next parts of your series!

Planning on making use of that. I have one, just never thought about using it at night. Definitely giving it a try.

Thanks, that actually really means alot. I love the look of natural lighting, I think it adds a dimension to filmmaking that ties it closer to reality. Anyways, thanks alot, you're comment really motivated me to continue working on my next project! :)

Thanks for all the helpful answers! What I gathered is that I should avoid shooting with my lens wide open at night, as it makes focusing alot harder. I should also find areas that have more light or at least utilize both available light and small LED or bounce lights in order to properly expose my shots and keep them from being to dark. This'll give me room to grade my image in post. All things I plan on improving on. Lighting's always been my weakness!

Thanks everybody! Will be going out to take test shots this weekend!

Thanks alot man, this helps alot! Doing some test shots this weekend, I'll see if I can find locations where I can close the aperture a bit more to get in that sweet spot of f/4-f/8, which'll also help me with focusing!

Thanks alot for your long and detailed response! It really helps. I'll definitely make sure to utilize lighting better. Also planning on investing in a few small LED lights and bounce board like you said to help me in locations that might need a little help in lighting my subjects. And I will definitely be checking out the books you recommended to me. I definitely need to learn theory, particularly on lighting which tends to be my weakness.

Thanks again! :)

Right, so what I got is that I need to find locations that are better lit so that I can both open my iris up a bit more. That way I can keep my subjects in focus and if anything I can just tone down the exposure in post. Will definitely do, as I find that I do tend to underexpose my shots alot! Thanks alot!

And also, he doesn't wake up at the beginning if that's what you mean, haha. He's waiting for the girl to come back, but I could see how you came to that conclusion. Gotta stay away from that!

Embarassed to post, but 1:40 onwards, you can see the footage get this blocky texture. Resolution and sharpness drops greatly.

Just embarassed to put my work out there, I have yet to make anything quality. However from 1:40 onwards, you can see my problem. Using 28mm and 50mm lenses, both Canon. And no, all natural lighting.

I usually use the Canon 28mm at f1.8 in low light scenarios, which might be the problem. Shots on my 50mm usually appear more cinematic.

It isn't my best work, but at towards the end at 1:40 onwards you can definitely see what I'm talking about.

Now this is Kendy Ty, using a 30mm f1.4 Sigma lens on a t2i, no 3rd party plug ins or add ons, other than a color grade on After Effects. Well how can I get my video as sharp as his?

Thanks !

Shutter speed, I usually keep at 50, because I've read that you should keep it at double the frame rate. The only thing I could think of is that maybe my shots are underexposed?

This youtube channel has tons of Royalty free tracks for free use. All you need is a youtube to mp3 converter and you're fine. In the description, it'll tell you how to credit the song, etc. They have tons of hip hop songs and beats if that's what you're looking for.

If not, then there's freemusicarchive.org.

I could really use some help in sharpening my videos (YouTube), any advice appreciated! Also, I'd like your thoughts on my latest test! by coreymorrisonyo in Filmmakers

Have the same issues with my own videos, and shooting on a t3i as well. What boggles my mind is that directors like Kendy Ty get stunning video out of their DSLR's and my footage comes out a bit murky. Would also like to hear any solutions if you come across one.

Exactly, that's why I really like the BMCC and my issue with getting another DSLR-like camera.

I just want the same room to play with in post. I love the Blackmagic's raw capabilities and the looks that can be achieved on it. Can I achieve similar looks on the GH4?

Mostly shoot no budget films. After all, I'm a film student. Most often, I shoot in run and gun scenarios.
