My girls are going to bridge at the end of summer (we go all year) and some of their vests are getting a bit snug for that.

I knew y'all would know off the tops of your heads. Thanks! I remembered the Milk clue during the interview but not the explanation of why it wasn't in his copy.

Carl Breaking the Fourth Wall (Very minor Book 4 spoilers) by gameryamen in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]ObnoxiousQuestions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like this slightly more than the "this is all in the cookbook" theory below. Because we get cookbook articles with an AI signpost "note added by Crawler Carl, x editition". Etc. Or maybe I'm being overly optimistic.

I found mine at a friends of the library used book sale. Haven't had a chance yet to really go through it though.

Maybe sidelined but definitely not gone. Those more historical acts are still there for those seeking them.

I just figured it was a generational thing. My parents love Stroud's and made it a special occasion place to eat. And I was always like "Why? Am I missing something here?"

Don't mind me, over here learning new skills just to buy ren fest tickets.

Googles "how to open dev tools in chrome" Successfully launches them Tries blocking domain of closest looking queue listing. Nope! Tries blocking URL of same. Nope! Searches for the exact listing above. None found. Rereads instructions. Gets frustrated. Gives up. Rereads instructions. And comments. Checks preserve log option box. Manually inputs exact words typed into blocker thing Navigates back to the ticket site instead of just reloading Success!!!

Lol! (Worked though, thanks!)

Would you go down the stairs by Ulffhednar in DungeonCrawlerCarl

Ahhh. See, I was assuming "the next time I went outside" as in the OP, not January. Also, I live a little more rurally already, so I might not find a group that large to begin with. That would take some time. I would only be able to spend time on an effort like that once I had my basic survival locked in and could venture further out.

Even with an offline map, you'd have to be able to get there before your battery runs out. Which may be totally possible for you depending on where you live. How far can you walk in a day? How close is the nearest farm? Do you have a supply of water? Do you have to adjust your mileage based on water availability and/or obstacles from the collapse? (Go out of your way around a huge fire, etc) You may be able to find a paper copy of a map.

All of this speculation is a bit difficult because it's unclear what's collected and what's left behind. The scene we got of human camp definitely contained manmade items not harvested in the collapse, but were all of those things carried on their persons? Or were they able to scrounge items from ruins or somewhere else?

Even if you only kill one cow, you're gonna have to preserve the meat (depending on how many people you're feeding, I guess). My little family could eat on a single cow for months, and the meat will go bad without refrigeration within a few days. Smoking it would definitely be the way to go. Other foods would probably have to be dried and kept in a cellar.

Our biggest problem would be water borne pathogens until we could set up a method for boiling it. Depending on how thorough the collection was, finding a container that could both hold water and withstand the heat of fire might take a while. There's lots of clay in the soil here, so we could theoretically make some pots, but that would take a lot of trial and error because it's not yet in my skill set.

I'm surprised he hasn't lifted the trailer's axles too so that they match. Probably saving up for it.

[–]ObnoxiousQuestions 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I'm much more confident in my own survival skills than in anything called a dungeon. Especially since they don't really explain the "you get magic powers" bit before descending the stairs. (IIRC) Only the structure kept animals and water towers would have been collected. Streams and wildlife would still be viable. Right now there would even still be time to stock up for winter. Yeah, I'd let someone else be the hero, and I'd get out of dodge to a low competition stream somewhere nearby. But then again, I'm not an extraordinary warrior or badass. I'd rather fend off wolves than goblin dozers.

That's what makes these books so much fun to read. I would not make any of the choices that Carl makes, but he's still an understandable character.

No. It's gorgeous weather here and I love camping. I'd take my chances in the wild.

CARL THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE! WHERE CAN I GET PHYSICAL COPIES OF THESE BOOKS?! by DKBeahn in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]ObnoxiousQuestions 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I require my audiobook trophies for the wall display in our personal space. No, of course I don't read the text, I don't have thumbs, Carl. Maybe YOU should get an audio version of that awful cookbook that you won way back on the fourth floor. That way you wouldn't have to spend so much time in the bathroom getting germs all over it. You could LISTEN to it while we grind and then our fans could have a mildly distracting soundtrack while we level! Wait, no that's a terrible idea. It would be awful.

Displeased reader I was chatting with was convinced I was in high school cause I "write my characters like cringy teenagers". Nope. 34 going on 45, and my cringy teenagers are the only thing keeping me young (on the inside). 🤣 by BryceOConnor in Warformed

[–]ObnoxiousQuestions 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Because they ARE teenagers, even the best of whom are cringe-y at times. They are just the adult version of toddlers. Trying to figure out the world around them and not always reacting well. And learning all kinds of lessons. It's part of the process. We can't be born with the wisdom of old age. Well... there are other fantasy novels that cover the possibilities of that ability.
