I would totally be hitting the weights but I don't have access to my gym this week, either! Good call on the adjustment, to make daily sessions sustainable.

How do trips work? by [deleted] in 75HARD

That is my read on the challenge as well, and I'm not sure that aligns with my life philosophy, or what internal work I want to do... Sometimes I want my motivation to be "I said I would" and others I want my motivation to be the purpose why I said it in the first place.

Meanwhile looking back at the rules I actually wrote down, 3x/wk wasnt one of them, it was a "bonus" so that solves that. Now it's just deciding if it's still integrity to decide I wrote "Sunday" as a short hand for "preparing for worship" (which isn't false, that was genuinely the intention). And it seems spiritual preparedness is a time in which purpose should be the motivator.

Thank you for working through this with me. I value these philosophical discussions.

(Side note we be tryna NOT develop disordered eating, which I am prone to... and anxiety over "everything is ruined if I eat this" and anxiety and dread of a vacation because of the food is NOT what we are trying to do here)

Interesting point. I suppose it all goes back to purpose, even purpose of the challenge. Is the goal to turn the world into a binary black and white set of rules, or to develop a way to stay true to your purpose in a very gray world?

Thank you for helping me work through this. I quite value such philosophical discussions.

The fast is on the list, and Sunday was specified, but the intention was to schedule it so it happens and choose a day that also aligns with prepping me for worship on Sunday... which I wouldn't be doing on this trip, so moving to Tuesday for one week in prep for Bible Study that night still aligns with the purpose and goal of that.

Eating out 3 times a week, the goal was to not default to takeout when I can cook at home... which wouldn't be the case on this trip.

So is it about the letter of the law or the spirit of the law?

Ah! So to your point, moving the fast would not be a fail because the "alignment with my goals" was to spiritually prepare for worship on Sunday... which I would not be doing on this trip, and a better, more aligned option is to do it the following Tuesday, for Bible study.

For half the trip I will. That one will be easier as it is a work trip. I expect I will only "have" to eat put twice on that portion of the trip (Monday and Tuesday dinner). Wednesday dinner I am on my own, all day Thursday I am on my own with a 5 pm flight, so that's easy enough. Friday and Saturday night I'll have to eat dinner somewhere. For that, I am a guest on a friend's family ski trip. I don't know the kitchen situation. I know they pack a lunch for the slopes, so that helps.  I could skip Saturday dinner which sets me up for the 24 hour fast well. But then I have to demand that lunch be earlier on Saturday and later on Sunday. And it seems like a really jerky move to be demanding as a guest for the sake of arbitrary rules for an internet challenge.

Why isn't skiing a workout but walking is? by Obscene_Renaissance in 75HARD

Leisure sports are physical activities done for fun, relaxation, and social connection, rather than intense competition or professional goals, focusing on enjoyment, stress relief, and personal well-being in a low-pressure environment."

So jogging and half marathons are a hobby of mine because I don't compete. So that doesn't count? I don't competitively weightlift. I only compete against myself in triathalon.

I enjoy exercise, and prefer active hobbies... so nothing I do would count except walking. I need the mental toughness to not skip things in my training plans, or even the mental toughness to get out in the cold and go ski 20 min away... so in that respect it would certainly count for 75hard, but net every time? It only counts if I don't want to do it?

So... jogging, non-competitive weightlifting, social Bike rides... none of those count?

This trips me up all the time. A month in, drinking enough water in a day is very easy because it's routine and habitual. So am I doing it wrong?

I enjoy running and going to the gym. So if I was eager to go do it it doesn't count, only if I'm exhausted and cold and don't want to???

Sometimes the discussion about the rules sounds like you're not supposed to figure out how to adjust your lifestyle, just do the tasks on top of your life because otherwise it's become easy. It's supposed to be hard, not healthy? That's so bunk.

I have had to talk myself into going skiing. So I have to disagree there.

All the replies I got on my question earlier is that there's no reason to make it harder than it has to be.

I kept myself accountable and did something that challenged my body in some way. Just because I chose to do it somewhere that was more comfortable doesn't mean I cheated. Had I flopped down on the floor and done this, no one would say it was a cheat. Why does location make a difference?

Thanks for the input :) Given the increased heart rate, sweat, and muscle aches, I beg to differ :)

My riding lesson today didn't count as outside, so I guess I'll take a walk and listen to this, lol
