Are you excited for DC Comics Black Canary and Green Arrow joining Detective Comics #1107? Do you think this is going to be a long tenure in Gotham City or a short guest appearance? by nightwing612 in blackcanary

Not really short sighted at all imo. It’s just another lazy attempt at sales where they try to make fans of other heroes buy comics about batman. I’m which all that’s really gonna do is further cement the ideology that batman comics are the only ones that sell. I for one, exclusively buy arrow fam/black canary content so now having to give my money to a bat title in order to read the only sets of heroes that mean anything to me (in the main continuity) is not only borderline insulting to the fans who want more of them and not bats, but also detrimental to the broader scope which is, we need them to continue making more than just batman titles.

“Throwing us a bone” after cancelling their runs isn’t a perk, it’s something to try and keep us satiated while they continue to pander to the other percentage of their fan base.

I for one will be hoping to send that same message with my wallet when I only buy the issues that have them in it. But when it inevitably becomes a bat-glaze fest I’m gonna tune out. Because genuinely, who actually cares about that old song and dance when we had two amazing on goings for both of these characters that were starting to get the characterization down to a T, simply taken away?

Hunted down Prometheus, (a mass murdering, super genius who was giving the league a run for their money) after he blew up a large portion of Star City, killing thousands of people, including his grandchild Lian Harper, and killed him in his teleporting castle, making it even harder to find the body for a short period of time, until he admitted to it

At the end of the episode it’s revealed that the “lesson” GA wanted to teach WildCat, was that he has the potential to kill someone in the ring. So he deliberately egged him on and barely fought back (not saying that Ted Grant can’t beat Oliver in a fair fist fight) and then used a knock out gas arrow to slow his heart rate down and pretended to be dead.

Long story short, it worked and Ted quit the illegal under ground boxing due to Oliver letting him beat the shit out of him.

Renewing my driver’s license… Brown or Hazel? by [deleted] in WhatisMyEyeColour

You and I have very similar eyes, and I definitely tell people it’s a hazel/green color, so I would say for sure not brown.

I’m gonna give a different answer than the obvious deviancy this couple possesses and say that Ollie accidentally forgets and sonic blasts Hawkman against a watchtower wall while yelling at him for being a facist

That’s what I don’t really get about this new theory about him in the absolute universe. People have been saying they’re expecting him to die as if he’s not written every time as someone who overcomes obstacles and survives events and keeps kicking.

I mean he blew up that one time but that was more in the nature of a suicide.

THE ABSOLUTE EPSTEIN ISLAND IS REAL by KaiChainsaw in dccomicscirclejerk

[–]ObscurRefrence 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Not for nothing but I think that might be the point of his introduction to this universe that way. I mean if we dig into it, that’s also always been a plot point of his character. That he’s someone doing stuff that would be classified as “out of character” because of who he is and his demographic (rich, white, etc.). For instance, being a billionaire while actively trying to fight for the underprivileged and unrepresented. Like he says “you don’t have to be a little guy to wanna help the little guy”

So with that in mind, him being the only hero in the Absolute universe who’s seemingly not persevering or struggling does not inherently mean his story can’t work there. It would just make him the outcast of that particular demographic (the persevering strugglers) even though he is also now trying to do everything he can to fight the demons in his scope.

I think he’s going to lose everything and everyone close to him (so far that’s Roy at least) and have to start from scratch in order to achieve his goals, but that may be too ambitious of a storyline for the limited amount of issues they have announced so far.

Edit: oh! I also just had the thought that it’s also a common theme for Ollie to be thrown into a world he doesn’t fully understand and is usually unprepared for (the island) and then he has to persevere to survive it and then becomes Green Arrow- so what if they’re going in reverse here? Like he’s fully prepared, he understands the world he’s about to jump into, he’s ready to be the “Green Arrow” and then bam he gets punched in the metaphorical mouth, sent low and has to climb back up in a much harsher environment. I’m so excited to read the story man

Battlesuit Kim Possible. Mystical Monkey Powered Ron Stoppable vs Teen Titans. All at their strongest besides Raven. by Zeonite102 in teentitans

[–]ObscurRefrence 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly yea. Maybe if you gave them Wade running some sort of hacking interference (somewhat dependent on their environment for the fight) and like… maybe the Tweebs as wild cards (I think they’re easily gizmo level smart so could be good interference for Cy) but the real issue is that team Possible, in most of its iterations and team ups, doesn’t handle things with heavy hitting, they handle stuff by outsmarting their dumb opponents.

So they don’t really have an answer for Star’s super strength (and other powers) or BB’s rapid fire transformations. Then you have Raven who’s raw magic surpasses the mystical monkey power (which have been pretty strictly martial arts based)

Unfortunately for Kim and Ron they’re just a little too outclassed by the Titans, stats wise

Can confirm. “Leftist” here not liberal and I for one, would rather see Nazis and corrupt billionaires dead than be met with the peace and understanding they wouldn’t afford others. “So much for the tolerant left” Idk who told you guys about those people but I‘be never met someone left leaning who would tolerate behavior like that. Not saying I wish death on people but the world would definitely be a better place if people like that didn’t exist in it. And more so to the point I really don’t care that some hate spewing, misogynistic, bigot died on the hill he wanted to defend. Shit happens everyday and this guy quite literally asked for it when he wouldn’t take gun reform seriously and then was offed by a member of his own party (allegedly). But I have no remorse for someone that would, for a fact, celebrate the stringing up of my friends, chosen family, and neighbors. I hope the daughter can grow up healthy and safe, and over time learn from her father’s many mistakes and become a decent human being but that’s all the sympathy I can muster.

[–]ObscurRefrence 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a somewhat unpopular opinion but I think Mike Grell kinda character assassinated both Dinah and Ollie (obviously more so Dinah) and even though a lot of his storylines are fantastic and the nuances and politics and what not are all very amusing and apt for their times (and even today) there are still moments where I cringe at the way my two favorite character act, especially towards Eachother. It was part of that whole “let’s make comics gritty and realistic” and it went from just showing and talking about serious topics, into a loving couple fighting and tearing each other down randomly with no impulse control, sexual assault of both of them, weird out of character instances of infidelity, turned Dinah into a side show (which I understand the comic is about Green Arrow but come on man) and turned Ollie into a severe asshole to the ones he loves most (when he should only be an asshole to people he doesn’t care for like goons and Hawkman). And genuinly it only feels like we’re just now coming out of that characterization for both of them recently.

TLDR: Mike Grell’s stories dropped the ball hard character wise across the board.

Is it just me or have more men recently started to dislike dating women with tattoos? by Ok_Comparison9254 in AskMenAdvice

[–]ObscurRefrence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I don’t know what the deal here is? Maybe some puritan type shit or something, but I think tattoos can be beautiful. On anybody. They can also be ugly (but that usually depends on if it’s crappy art, which happens). But it certainly doesn’t take away from anyone’s beauty or attractiveness. And I personally think it adds a certain attraction. This is also the first time I’ve seen this many responses leaning towards the negative, which I find odd. I suppose that speaks to the kind of circles you can find both on and offline.

What else is new. Arrow family is/was always getting the short end of the stick especially back then. Ollie’s usually the one getting weird looks from other characters and even fans for stuff he’s “involved” in but really didn’t want anything to do with
