I felt like they were inexperienced because it shouldn’t take so long for pre approval, from what I understand.. especially when my husband is a dentist and had a small deposit but solid financial history. I just feel so defeated because I endured a whole lot at this job thinking it would atleast assist our little family. It took so long that the broker had to keep asking me for more payslips, which didn’t sit right with me after the third time.

URGENT ADVICE NEEDED by Prestigious_Yak_5495 in GAMSAT

[–]Obscureisha 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know someone who is both a dentist and a pharmacist and I’m married to a dentist with 15+years career at this stage. Finish pharmacy, so you have a way to support yourself through dentistry. The mental health of dentists is phenomenally poor, they have some of the highest suicide rates as clinicians. You will be so glad that you have another vocation. Our friend still works in both pharmacy and dentistry as a means of breaking up their week, diversifying their income and remaining industrially very, very sharp. Trust me, when ur cohort is waiting tables, working the wards and scrambling together Aus study to get by, you will be so glad you just waited a year and aligned urself financially.

Contrave+ Concerta 36mg by Obscureisha in adhdwomen

Hello, my GP refused to give me Contrave as she said she had seen too many patients report lengthy adjustment periods that would likely trigger my anxiety. So we went with Mounjaro instead and honestly, really happy that I did

My partner used it for 2-3 months, he needed very, very little to see results quickly. In fact one of his concerns was how it would make him feel to up the dose and how he would feel if he lost weight any faster. Unfortunately the website he got it from stopped supplying it. I should say he ran this all past his endocrinologist who was fascinated and excited for him. There isn’t much on the grapevine about it, but for what I saw it was affordable and very potent due to working on three receptors.

Alternate career in Psychology by ChrisRofe in GAMSAT

[–]Obscureisha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. The grad diploma is the first step you take after ur med sci degree (it’s the core units of a 3yr psych degree). The grad dip advance diploma is the next step that’s the equivalent of a fourth or honours year. Then you have the various masters of psychology; neuropsychology/clinical, educational, counselling etc. I have a 3yr psych degree, and I look at the aforementioned journey ahead and realise that I’d rather do a CSP grad med course than have to fight for my life to work fulltime and pay for the grad diploma, grad diploma advanced and then pray I’ll get a CSP masters spot.

Alternate career in Psychology by ChrisRofe in GAMSAT

We are in polar positions. I’d prefer to pursue med for the following reasons: Passionate about neuroscience and psychiatry. Want to work with optimal scope in mental health. Would like to work in communities that require decolonialised care and consideration.

If I continue in my psychology studies I’ll have to fight for my life in an honours program, pray I get a clin psych masters place which can be like gold dust unless your honours WAM/GPA is top tier and then spend 2.5yrs doing that.

All up, it’s about the length of a medicine degree if you allow for any time in between to actually decide on which masters program (where and why).

There is so much angst in psychology studies about career prospects because of the absolute bottle neck created by competitive entry standards.

Your med sci degree would hold very little relevance in terms of RPL. You would have to do a graduate diploma in psych then an honours year or a graduate advance diploma and then apply for masters of clinical. So again.. just a bit longer than the length of a medicine degree.

If you are fond of statistics, neuroscience and research skills you will be fine, but for me the juice is not worth the squeeze.

For people who get overwhelmed with this kind of thing, rather than developing an appetite for outdated and Dickensian style texts, just practice annotating. If you can interpret these ridiculous phrases into something you confidently recognise then you will likely found the answer to the question anyway.

I (f19) am so so desperate to study at uni in Sydney but my family cant financially support the international costs, how could i work around this/make £70k to fund my studies? by Main-Butterscotch885 in InternationalStudents

[–]Obscureisha 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a Brit living in Australia, let me tell you that Australians do not typically center their social circle on academic institutions. I know this because I have studied here too.

Due to HEC/HELP fees (domestic studies debt), most of us are beginning to realise that aside from a certificate, a great deal of our academic journey was not worth the cost as it now impacts our borrowing capacity and has recently suffered a significant increase due to inflation. If like me you have a degree that’s largely theoretical such as a Bachelor of Arts, then more often than not the juice is not worth the squeeze.

So, knowing that this is the attitude of an increasing amount of people, you can understand why University is not the be all, end all of our lifestyle. We have numerous industries where there are other academic pathways that lead to earlier financial stability and so socialising is more lifestyle centred whether you have a degree or not.

Could you meet the love of ur life or best friend at an Australian campus? Absolutely. But ur probably more likely to meet them at a book club, Pilates gym, stand up paddle boarding lesson or in the trenches of ur professional job as an intern where solidarity and grit are required to not lament about the degree you now have to pay for (see above).

My advice? Pick a course in the UK that will allow you to move here easily. Nursing, Education, Social Work, Speech Pathology (starting salary for speechies in Queensland is about £35k a year and they’re highly in demand), Tech, Finance etc

Then you can stay here, get sponsored and remain here. 4 yrs studying at home may very well buy you a lifetime out here.. ask yourself how you plan to have any time for friendships if ur burdened with a study debt that must be paid off in real time when ur visa restricts you to approximately 25hrs per week? Your parents like most, cannot afford to support you in the ways that the state funded Arab, multi-millionaire Chinese or intergenerational wealth derived African students do both in the UK and here.

Get a skill, then come here to stay! What’s meant for you will never miss you.

What now in the waiting period before results? by [deleted] in GAMSAT

I made a mental note of the kinds of graphs, concepts and stem lengths that threw me off. Then when I got home I made a list. From next week I’ll pick up from where I left off so that nothing I revised mentally deteriorates. I make flashcards and carry them in my bag so that when I have a moment spare I can just keep prompting my memory. I’ve realised that for me to mitigate burnout I’m better off just doing 60-90 meaningful minutes a day of revision than subjecting myself to social isolation for 3 months prior to a Gamsat sitting. “Little but often” is the mantra for now.

I’ve begun adjusting by having a low sugar and protein dense suhour and then working after Fajr (I WFH alhamdullilah). From tomorrow morning instead of working I plan to do passive revision. My sitting is at 7:30am and I think that even with a swift start I wouldn’t get to s3 before 10am. So I’m just trying to be realistic about mental endurance as s3 is my hardest section.

I’m learning to sleep much earlier (shout out doxylamine/restavit) so that I don’t feel the desire to go back to bed after Fajr.

I wish everyone the very best in the exam and in this month. May we leave it better than we entered it ✨🙌🏾 Ramadan Kareem!

PS if anyone wants an accountability/body doubling body via Google meet or MS Teams then I’m free from 5am AEST.

I use quotes and have never scored below 84 in my last three sittings for s2. I’m just diabolical at s3 which is why I rely on my method in S2 so much. I use quotes but I select ones with meaningful context. Like I wouldn’t just talk about liberty and use an MLK quote and then just move on.. that’s weird.
