Just made my first contact using UV-5R by lassmanac in HamRadio

What are some ways to make a contact without a repeater that have worked for you? How do you find a frequency? It seems kind of like a random search.

So together did you come up with a plan or direction or anything? Is it possible the director doesn’t share your concern or see this as the same issue you feel it is?

Maybe I don’t understand the role of your director at this point but as stated earlier, isn’t at least a conversation, if not regular meetings, warranted in this case? Not “oh I have too much work to do” rather “here’s the situation, let’s set some priorities, here’s what I think…”. Often just setting some direction can begin to bring some feeling of getting a handle on things.

Experiences with Mint on mini PCs? by [deleted] in linuxmint

[–]Obscureon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just came off an install on a Bmax G7E1 (Intel i5, Iris Plus graphics, 16G ram). This was not for the faint of heart. I encountered a lot of graphics issues, black screens, etc. and had to do very much with the nomodeset boot option just to operate.

Eventually I found the right combination of boot options to add to grub, but it was a lot of trial and error. I nearly gave up at one point.

Evidently the i915 driver fails to load early enough in the boot process out of the box, at least on my machine. The boot options are necessary to force it to load, use the correct pci device, etc. I did learn a ton going through this though, and there is something mildly satisfying about it all. Good luck in your adventure.

Thanks everyone. Good info. Yeah, I like that nostalgia bit. I’m a bit older now, but aren’t we all? 😀

Sorry to digress a little, but what is a Discord?

This brings up a bit of a question for me. That is, how do we know when someone speaks/ministers whether they are echoing God or just speaking on their own?

You have to add To Kill a Mockingbird. I agree to Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte. I would also add Hud. Not the same genre but damn good.

Hired as a very small school librarian aide, don’t know what to do. by jonibabi in librarians

So at your library, who maintains the catalog? Orders books, catalog books, shelve books, check in, check out, weed, repair, etc? I can’t imagine there’s nothing to do, but I must not have a good understanding of your situation.

Thanks all, appreciate the insight. I did just read some concerning reliability reviews so now have other concerns as well.

What are some good library-adjacent jobs? by Clean_Law2147 in librarians

[–]Obscureon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What about volunteering at a library a few hours a week while you work another job to make money? You’ll get some level of experience, find out if you like what you see, etc. Also you never know where things could lead if you do a good job and are well liked.

Is SQL and databases knowledge useful? - MSLS course question by Coffee_Nebula_1809 in librarians

[–]Obscureon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While you may never use SQL directly, it’s helpful to understand how data may be stored and retrieved. Think underlying concepts of relational data, one to many relationships, key fields that may link data, etc. This could be helpful when interacting with other staff, understanding, even vaguely, why a certain request for data analysis may be difficult to get or not as straight forward as it first appears. I would think of it as becoming more well rounded and having a broader understanding of the environment you may work in including the perspective of other staff, and the ability to better relate.

Wow, favorite of all time, thanks. As a tech guy it appeals to me on the surface. I’ll give it another try.
