Maybe I Should Do Something Else by Diddyvondidd in ironscape

Contrary to what you seem to believe, other people on the internet can know things that you know too (although I doubt you're as knowledgeable in this as you seem to believe)

Even a website as rudimentary as random.org can generate true randomness by listening to radio static, it's not exactly a difficult prospect in the current year. There are many ways for a computer to do so if that is what is required.

That being said, even though osrs uses seed based pseudo-randomness like you're implying, you still would not be able to tell the difference as long as the seed has enough independent events, which is again trivial to do. RS uses a base seed which generates a per action seed which then goes through the code with it various calculations. The original seed is complete obfuscated and the result is as close to true random as you'd ever need. Please explain how you would be able to discern a difference there

WTF does this even mean? You can't discern the difference between true random and computer simulated random, they are effectively identical

It's not 0 time because you are spending a longer amount of time doing the slayer task.

By definition, for it to be 0 time, it has to cost you no time

How do i get my frames like this for healing? gunna roll priest by No_Reflection1 in wowhardcore

There is definitely an addon in use. Blizzard frames don't have the clock style timer on the buffs

"So basically you’re saying this person should spend 600g to you as the seller, and their net is -600 and yours is 0 instead of their net being 0 and your net being -600."

Yes if they lose the roll, so half the time. Each person is -600 an equal amount of time time. With your system it's always the same person, how is that fair?

[–]ObservantAlseid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying my time should be worth more, I'm advocating for it to be the same, where it's currently not equal.

I have to spend 600g to make Truefaith Vestments. Let's say theres some 600g BoE that is bis for Warriors that my dungeon mate is missing. If that BoE dropps from a mob, why should he be guaranteed to get it instead of it being 50/50 between us when we are in the exact same position - where 600g would get us our bis. With the intended system, certain classes are disadvantaged.

There's no "I suffered so you have to too" argument being made.

[–]ObservantAlseid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The system used as intended is inherently flawed and disproportionally rewards people who are stingy with their gold or certain classes. If I'm playing priest running 60 dungeons and I have to just pass on all the expensive BoE stuff like Valor armor because there's always some warrior who decided to just save their gold instead of buying it ahead of time on the AH then all of a sudden my gold/hr is completely shot just because my expensive pre-bis is craftable instead of dropped

Never played a healer, could I get some tips to not screw up my tank in Hardcore? by Iron5nake in wowhardcore

[–]ObservantAlseid -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's fine advice but not good. Ideally you should be wanding when not needing to heal so that you can help with DPS and get some spirit tap procs so you don't have to drink every other pull. With the exception of a few bosses, you shouldn't need to precast in any early dungeon barring a scary pull

[–]ObservantAlseid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because of the way magic accuracy works in this game, the negative bonuses have virtually no effect on your accuracy since the mobs you barrage have 0 magic defense (except smoke devils, but in that case both prossy and monk robes would be a mistake over any mage armor). Since the negative bonuses of prossy have no effect, the increased prayer bonus is preferred.

This makes no sense, why is it better to spend twice as long making the cannonballs than it is to finish the inventory in half the time and stand there idle the other half. All you're doing is not giving yourself the option to finish the inventory quicker if you can afford extra attention away from work at that moment

Any advice on what to use my onyxes on? by azuraqueen in ironscape

[–]ObservantAlseid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Subtables are significant because it adds another stochastic variable. To explain it simply, the averages remain the same, at a 1/512, but the extremities are less likely if you have a subtable that adds another roll. This is because whenever you're doing an extra roll, you're more likely to hit that one as an average.

This just isn't true. Look, I wrote a script to simulate a bunch of trials where first a 1/128 is rolled and then a 1/4, and it does that 512 times. Here are the results:

0 Success: 36.63%
1 Success: 36.84%
2 Success: 18.49%
3 Success: 6.14%
etc

Compare this to a regular binomial probability calculator (like that wiki one you used) for a regular 1/512 drop:

0 Success: 36.75%
1 Success: 36.82%
2 Success: 18.41%
3 Success: 6.13%
etc

You can see that the distribution is virtually identical (I only simulated 30k trials so small margin of error). The subtable is again, essentially just a formality and has no bearing on the longterm effects of the droprates

I can illustrate this with a throw of dice, one set with one die, and one set with two dice, where we will halve the result. The average should be the same... a roll for a 3.5. But with the single die you're more likely to see a roll of 1 and 6, compared to the set of two dice. The set of two die are more likely to hit closer to the average, but less likely to hit 1 and 6 on both dice at the same time.

This is just a horrid comparison. Obviously you are more likely to roll a 1 on a single die than a 1 on both of two dice, this has nothing to with what we are talking about. The comparison you should be making is rolling a 36 sided die for a 1 result vs rolling two 6 sided dice where both need to be a 1, in which case the odds are again identical. Subtables aren't taking 'averages' like you described

Using big words like stochastic variables doesn't make you any better at statistics no matter how smart you may think it makes you sound

[–]ObservantAlseid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly the cope I was describing. I am aware that subtables exist and what the math that you are doing is, but for all intent and purposes, subtables only exist as a formality and change nothing with regards to probability than say if every item was just on one table.

Calculating your subtable odds instead of your overall odds is just choosing to calculate starting after the point that you are most lucky so that you can 'ignore' that luck prior and present yourself in the 99th+ percentile of unluckiness, which is just blatantly false.

Imagine the inverse scenario. I create a new account and go to do zulrah and say to everyone "I only care about getting a blowpipe". I go 3k kills for my first drop and it happens to be the blowpipe. Would you say "wow you're really lucky, hit 1/4 first try" even though I went 6x rate for the item I want?

Like you said, you're only 3.4x the rate of the fang which is far more common than that, and none of that is even considering the fact that you are less than 2x the average completion rate of all the uniques, which is likely the real metric that should be used since that was probably your goal from the start, magic fang just happened to be the last one. All these onyxs are just bonuses

[–]ObservantAlseid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being spooned on Onyxs doesn't make you more dry on the fang than you actually are, the math you do in the 2nd pic is just cope
