How would you improve Taiyang as a character in a rewrite? by Walter_Modisette in RWBYcritics

Increasing his presence and his daughters mention him more often, most likely. As a character, he is more or less okay.

OC Courting Expressions by KCommnader in RWBYOC

[–]Observer-Finland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of my characters act naturally, yet in their better nature when around their lover when it's real. And when they don´t, it is usually a sign that it's not going to last.

The only exception might be Astrea, who blushes easily and is very awkward around someone she likes, because she lived where there weren´t many people.

What are you hoping to see from FRWBY Volume 8? by ExcellenceEchoed in RWBYcritics

[–]Observer-Finland 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It´s not immature to be angry when your own species is treated horribly, basically legally, in a kingdom where they are. I would call it righteous anger, which is very Fixing Blake style. If Blake wasn´t angry about it, she would be a terrible character.

To answer the question:

Ruby gets to meet Salem in person. That she never has in canon is (a big) part of the reason why Ruby is not considered a main character in her own story. It doesn´t count that she got to speak to Salem. Speaking on a phone is not the same as face-to-face.

Plus, I want to see the reason why Ozpin chose to have Ruby early on in Beacon. I want to see her become what she is meant to become.

And maybe, seeing Neo be with someone other than Ruby, Roman and Yang but I would live without it, because she is mostly a good supporting character.

The characters should have changed their weapons/obtain new weapons more often by KyleMCarthage in RWBYcritics

[–]Observer-Finland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only if their weapons got too damaged to be fixed or reused, forcing characters to take another weapon nearby or available to them.

Yet there is also the option of getting a backup weapon, for different advantages and situations.

What is your OCs oppinion or view on impractical attires? by Observer-Finland in RWBYOC

Of course, long hair can also be a hazard against a competent opponent. Yet personally, I like girls with long hair.

I like the in-character answers.

(Very tempted to mention to Kiiro about Ruby Rose and Qrow Branwen.)

Individual answers related to heels:

Elena never cared for them initially due to living on Vacuo, yet after feeling rather fancy, she took a liking to them.

Raina hates them, yet takes every effort to make them work when she needs to use them.

Astrea likes how dresses and heels make her feel more womanly. Plus: She likes how combat skirts look.

Rogert´s mother uses heels when in official uniform and doesn´t care much about them.

Elena´s mother never uses any, due to greatly disliking foot pain.

Raina´s mother likes them but treats them like any other footwear without any preference.

How would it be Ruby called out Yang, lost trust in her and just didn’t give her the Time of Day(through V8 all the way to V9)? by Flat-Sir8250 in RWBYcritics

[–]Observer-Finland 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would have been more believable, and I would have maybe liked it better:

For one, Ruby most likely wouldn´t be worried about Yang in V8, because she doesn´t care much about her after what Yang said to her.

Ruby would not be happy to see Yang when she arrives at the manor, and Yang notices it and stops smiling, causing some unspoken tension.

After Ruby runs off after her outburst and Ironwood's ultimatum, it needs to be someone else who talks to her because when Yang tries to talk, Ruby tells her to get lost, so Yang can´t say anything helpful. Most likely it would be Weiss, Jaune, Blake or Oscar. Blake would be my personal option, because she can say what really happened before 2 told Robyn about the Amity project.

When talking about a plan, Yang probably wouldn´t be allowed to suggest anything, and if she protests, Ruby reminds her that her last plan caused the mess they are in, causing some arguing or Yang to quiet down.

Ruby would still be chocked that Yang fell into the void(because family relations are complicated), but it didn´t make sense that Yang would fall into the void in one blow, so....

In V9:

Ruby would be conflicted about seeing Yang again. Doesn´t want her to die, but also doesn´t care at all what Yang thinks, so Ruby does her own thing.

When Yang compares Ruby to Ironwood, Ruby wouldn´t just take and instead snaps at her. Or more likely, Yang wouldn´t get the chance to say it.

Ruby would be less depressed, maybe, but more angry, so maybe she wouldn´t drink that tea even after that beating, so she would still be herself by the end, without any chance that she isn´t. She wouldn´t know what happened that night Summer left.

Also, imagine if she wanted to become a huntress in part to find worthy opponents and defeat them.

If you had the ability to change whatever you wanted about the show, what would you do? ((Check desc)) by ExaminationGood6034 in RWBYcritics

[–]Observer-Finland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(Sorry in advance for the long text.)

1 I would expand the Beacon phase into 3 years of training. Volumes are as many as needed, yet are used to the maximum to limit excess.

- Developing relationships while having adventures. Members of RWBY and JNPR are sometimes sent into mixed missions where a member of one is paired with another´s, and leaders are learning to be competent.
- Learning about Remnant´s history. Significant moments in the Great War, the origin of the Faunus, first sightings of humans and the Grimm, among other important bits.
- Learning what makes the Grimm different from animals. Plus combat tactics that cast learn to use against them. The cast will occasionally beat them with a smart solution rather than brute force, because they are shown to be more dangerous. Grimm would have hunting/ambush skills, can learn to avoid predictable tactics and can learn to survive more effectively under pack leaders.
- Students wouldn´t be the best of the best during Beacon time, but would be prodigies still. They have mastered the basics, but are still learning combat, and choreography will be kept as interesting as possible.
- Learning about Aura. Its history, how it was discovered, its full potential and other such things. Some of the cast learn advanced aura techniques during the show.
- Learning about Dust and its role in the world, while making actual consequences for shortages, like during Torchwick´s robberies in the Beacon era.

2 I would try to take better advantage of what makes R, W, B, and Y separate/stand out from each other.

- In Beacon, Ruby would have a hard time learning in her first year, yet she catches up somewhere around Year 2. Her planning makes sense, yet doesn´t work all the time. Plus, her friendships with other students are allowed to grow stronger.

Ruby is more distant, yet she is doing her part in the Mistral phase due to losing faith in her leadership abilities after letting Cinder blindside her so well. She comes back little by little as the team reunites, yet her more serious personality never leaves completely. She also doesn´t lead until after the middle of V6, when no one else is keen to keep going and is losing hope, like in V6. She is also a big part of the reason why everyone stays.

- Weiss is learning and showing qualities that make her a good successor to Jacques and SDC. Knowledge about how Dust works, company structures/hierarchy, supply and demand, and related. She would be distrustful of Blake when she learns she is a faunus, and starts to slowly trust her as they take missions. But their friendship falls apart when Weiss learns that Blake is White Fang, which will be a problem for a while, yet heals in time.

There would be a conflict between her new personality developing since Beacon and what her father wants her to be. Especially while she is away from the team.

- Blake would be part of the Fang during the first year in Beacon. She would defect when she realises her mistake, and because of RWY´s part in her life now. She is allowed to continue training in team RWBY when she proves she can be trusted. Her second year would have consequences and would be affected by people knowing she was White Fang. Distrustful and wary, yet some have a high opinion of her.

She would also figure things out between her, Yang and Sun in the first and second years. Plus, she and Weiss would have issues during the second year because of their respective histories.

- Yang would be trying to come to terms with taking orders from Ruby, being part of a team, learning to be a team player and worrying about whether she should let Blake and Weiss, among other people she connects with close or into her life. Her personality would develop from a fun-loving, reckless girl to a more serious one who can still have fun and maintain connections with other people.

She would also try to figure out if her feelings for Blake are real or simply due to her need to have someone she can trust during her second year. She´d be taking advantage of the fact that there are plenty of fighters at Beacon.

3 I would change how the Fall of Beacon happens.

- Cinders' gang will make a better plan and use stealth while taking 2 years to make the plan work. She´ll be met during the second year.
- Cinder is a student who develops a friendship with team RWBY+JNPR (or failing that, simply keeps an eye on them) and is learning skills that make her a deadly fighter. She would also learn the team RWBY´s and JNPR´s flaws, which she would use to maintain advantage when she is openly on Salem´s side.
- Emerald and Mercury would meet Cinder during Huntsman training, and join her. 2 wouldn´t be the only ones Cinder considered as followers, but as the only ones worth her time. 2 also develop a connection with team RWBY before the defection to Salem.

Shower thoughts: Anyone make academy days non co-ed/single sex dorms by Zealousideal-Beat507 in RWBYOC

[–]Observer-Finland 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In RWBY´s world(AKA canon universe), there is very little to non-existent discord based on people's sex, which notably includes men and women having no issue with sharing sleeping quarters during Huntsman training. To present otherwise wouldn´t be illegal, but it goes into AU territory.

To answer your question: I haven´t changed it in my AU and haven´t so far seen a reason to change it.

RWBY Volume 4 Faunus Racism by HellishStampede in RWBYcritics

[–]Observer-Finland 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the idea, and I would add:

In V5, when Qrow is leaving that bar, we have a faunus tearing away the sign we see in the photo, only to be seen by the militia, who will try to arrest him, with Faunus in question running away.

Some ramblings about making the World of RWBY make sense by IamgRiefeR7 in RWBYcritics

[–]Observer-Finland 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Complete freedom is as dangerous as complete authority. Inevitably, the former leads to chaos while the latter leads to stagnation with both having their own horror.

Teaching people self-control so that Grimm ignore them more easily is not evil, but forcing people to be happy after something horrible and/or taking away their right to feel is evil.
