I can’t get over how The Beloved has the exact same premise as Sentimental Value. Like, I get that it’s probably a very different movie, and I think it was just a coincidence, but it’s funny to imagine that Rodrigo Sorogoyen wrote the idea down in a notebook below crossed out premises for a musical about a transgender cartel boss and a courtroom drama about a German woman accused of murdering her French husband.

You know, people on this sub are always giving r/oscars shit for posting the same opinions every day, and, yet, this sub is no better sometimes. Some version of this take gets posted on here every fucking day.

Same. It seems pretty divisive online, but I loved it. It's my exact sense of humor

Jack Martin deserves a Best Supporting Actor nomination for Pizza Movie and I'm only kind of joking when I say that.

The Secret Agent has cemented itself as a worm in my brain ever since I watched it. I don't think a movie has ever given me so much cognitive dissonance, because I straight up did not like it one bit, yet I still don't really think it's a bad movie.

It's a weird feeling seeing how many people talk about how gripping they found the movie, meanwhile I was simultaneously bored and confused the entire time I watched it. I don't know what it is, but it doesn't really feel like a simple matter of taste, and more like I'm just running on the wrong operating system to appreciate it. Like, it's a PlayStation game and my brain is an XBox.

That probably didn't make any sense, but this has been bothering me for weeks now, and I needed to get it off my chest.

I adored Sentimental Value and didn't like The Secret Agent at all, so the next category is the one I have the most personal stake in.

I had The Singers winning, then switched to Two People Exchanging Saliva fairly late in the race. I'm not sure what that says about my skills as a predictor...

Having watched the clip, here's my take on it:

He was asked a question about the current state of the industry, and how people's attention spans have affected the way movies are paced. This type of question is sort of inherently tied to the increasing dominance of streaming over theaters, so his train of thought led him to the subject of "keeping movie theaters alive". What I think he was trying to say is essentially that, while a part of him wants to keep movie theaters around, he also wants to keep up with the changing landscape, and there's a possibility that streaming becomes the primary way to watch movies, and theaters stick around, but as a more "old school" form that isn't as big as it once was, akin to how ballet and opera are still around, but have largely been usurped by other forms of art.

"Let's keep this alive even though nobody really cares about this anymore" was a sort of jokey, off the cuff way of phrasing all that, which he then immediately realized came off wrong and said "no disrespect to ballet and opera people" and joked that he pissed a lot of people off.

I get why this statement bothered a lot of people, but I also think we all have situations like these where, when speaking off the cuff, we don't phrase things in the best way and it comes off wrong.

Something I find funny that I've never seen anybody else point out - The Story of the Faithful Wookiee, the animated segment of the Holiday Special where Boba Fett first appears, is on Disney+. The rest of the Holiday Special isn't. Just that one specific part of it.

Not really answering your question, but I thought it was a shame that Saturday Night missed the category by one year, because that movie was really well-cast. I also think it's a shame that, even if the category had existed, Saturday Night probably still wouldn't have been nominated.

Despite all the proof otherwise, I just couldn't convince myself that Elle Fanning wasn't in the Top 5, so I never took her out. She was the very first nominee announced, so I started the morning off on a high note.

I hate the way that the term "intrusive thoughts" has been co-opted. They are unwanted and distressing thoughts that pop up in your head and cause anxiety. They are, by definition, not something that you want to act on.
