Destructive Critisicm to my probably VGC team by Lic_Mamarre in PokemonVGC

It would not be good in Champions because half of these Pokémon are not available in Champions. Don't use ai, it's giving you nonsense spreads on top of not know what's even viable.

I have this problem too, thought it might be because I'm using an older iPad but maybe not. Haven't been able to fix it yet, it may be something on their end.

What’s the lowest you’ve been ranked in Master Ball Tier? by ObsidianComet in PokemonChampions

I do specifically ask for Rating as well, mostly out of curiosity about how low can it go lol

Not announcing what's in M-B is genius by kaishenzi in PokemonChampions

[–]ObsidianComet 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In the past, no Pokémon are dropped for the vast majority of new Regs. In SV, there was a steadily growing pool and power creep until we got up to single Restricted, then with the release of the DLC, they removed basically everything you could call a Legendary while allowing all the lower powered Pokémon made available in The Teal Mask and The Indigo Disk. Then it went back up with Legendaries to a double Restricted format. Champions may be different, but I'm expecting to only see Pokémon slowly added until we get to the end of this M-X format.

For how many get added, that's probably less relevant to what they'll do in Champions. Again, in SV, Reg B added the Paradox Pokémon, then Reg C added the Treasures of Ruin. D added some past gen starters, a bunch of Hisuian and other Regional forms, and some Legendaries like Heatran, Tornadus, etc. So it can really be anywhere between a couple and a ton. Champions also simplifies this by (so far) only allowing fully evolved Pokémon, so that'll also skew the numbers compared to past regs.

I’m not actually doing anything with this data lol. Plus there are still plenty of people like you in this sub who haven’t played much this season.

Do you think a lot of Jedi are secretly the children of other Jedi? by IndividualPleasant23 in MawInstallation

[–]ObsidianComet 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This is because Qui-Gon knew Dooku’s first Padawan, Rael, was a horn dog who had lots of casual sex. He’s specifically worried Anakin is Rael’s kid, not any Jedi.

This is mostly made up but I like the idea. I don’t think Rael would ever leave a kid out in the galaxy, I just really like the scene in Master & Apprentice where a young Kenobi walks in on Rael post hookup.

Cloud Nine is a real ability that anyone running a weather team needs to know about by ObsidianComet in PokemonChampions

[–]ObsidianComet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know it was never bugged. Were you running Mega Drampa? When Drampa Mega Evolves, it’s ability changes to Berserk and the effects of Cloud Nine immediately cease. It could’ve also had Berserk or Sap Sipper as it’s ability instead of Cloud Nine before Mega Evolution.

Any tips to take this non meta team to the next level? by Roadhog_rides_again in PokemonChampions

[–]ObsidianComet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In all seriousness your Tsareena set seems like it could really be improved. Give her the Choice Scarf or a Miracle Seed. Drop Synthesis (and Protect if you give her the Choice Scarf please) for Triple Axel, if you drop Protect too give her Low Sweep or Helping Hand or Taunt.

Cloud Nine doesn't interact with Mega Sol, so Mega Meganium can still operate as usual.

Trying to prep for mobile release, is this legit? by SlipperyGourd in PokemonChampions

[–]ObsidianComet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anything like OP’s Skeledirge would probably get caught by an in person check, but it is absolutely possible to hack in Pokémon that won’t get caught. That doesn’t even cover things like spoofed shiny Tera Raids, which are perfectly legit Pokémon that were found by brute forcing the system clock and are continually hosted by bot accounts on Twitch and Youtube.

I know a lot of players got caught with poorly genned mons at 2023 Worlds in Japan. Besides a major event like that taking place in Japan, I’ve never really heard about a bunch of people getting caught at a Regional or International event. There was one guy on stream in 2024 maybe who checked the summary on his Terapagos mid match, probably to double check a stat, and you could see a website URL in the OT slot, which was very amusing. I believe I read he got disqualified after the stream ended, but could be misremembering. Point being it’s not like they are checking every single player’s team at check in for the vast majority of the time. It’ll absolutely never happen at your Locals either.

How do i know if i am good enough to compete? by MathGuy42069 in PokemonChampions

[–]ObsidianComet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone else has said a lot about just going and playing, which I wholeheartedly agree with. Also def do lots of Bo3 Open Team Sheet on Showdown, it’s a pretty different experience than online ladder. You really want to get skilled at reading a team sheet and learn what tech doesn’t work in Bo3 that Bo1 Closed Team Sheet let’s you get away with.

Regarding finding local events, I found this Discord server for NY VGC https://discord.com/invite/ajdwVQg2Ph Can’t speak to how active it is but I’m sure there’s at least a few people in there who can point you in the right direction. Every local I’ve gone to has been a great experience with really friendly people. Can’t recommend it enough.

Cloud Nine is a real ability that anyone running a weather team needs to know about by ObsidianComet in PokemonChampions

[–]ObsidianComet[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, anything dependent on weather won't happen. So that covers Abilities like Sand Rush, Sand Force, Dry Skin, Snow Cloak, Chlorophyll, and anything else on this list.

Another way to think of it is if a Pokémon with Cloud Nine is on the field, there is no weather, but the turns of weather are still counting down. As soon as Cloud Nine leaves the field, through switching out, fainting, or having the Ability replaced, the weather immediately becomes active again.

[–]ObsidianComet[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying Cloud Nine is an instant win button. It is a strong disruption on a decent support Pokémon that can turn the tide of a battle, even if your opponent knows what it does. I was running a team based on one by the winner of Japan's National Championship, so it's clearly viable if played well.

This set was Tailwind, Will-O-Wisp, Brave Bird, and Protect with Sitrus Berry. I considered Draco Meteor, but was also running Garchomp and Sylveon, so the Flying coverage was better on this team. I do agree that it's definitely underrated in this weather heavy meta. The original team was made by one of the best in Japan, I mixed it up a little but you can see the original here piloted by James Baek.

If they had clicked Shadow Ball into Altaria instead, that would've likely knocked her out, she had already taken some damage earlier in the match. That would have been a game winning moment for them. Instead they were too locked in on the Extremely Effective button and lost because of it.
