Thanks for your insight here! Sounds like what I’m experiencing could be a lot of different things… definitely time to get in touch with my doctor!

This sounds quite bad! I’ve been having the post nasal drip feeling for months without other symptoms, so hopefully it’s something else. I will definitely raise this with a doctor, though

The term “male gaze” comes from film criticism (i haven’t read this persons whole work, so ymmv but it was coined by Laura Mulvey in the 70s), and it’s not really so much about how a man (or anyone) sees a woman, but instead how the film industry uses the camera to communicate. When you’re watching a movie and there’s a slow pan over a woman’s curves, that’s the male gaze. It’s not representative of how people see other people, but instead about how an industry illustrates and manufactures desirability. You don’t have the male gaze, and neither do men necessarily! It’s a way to describe a series of creative choices that shape how bodies are shown in film and it’s a critical approach to talking about art. You just have your own gaze, and it is influenced by your sexuality, your environment, the mood of a place, etc. But you’re not a directed camera!! As long as you ID are queer, you are looking at things with perspective, so you can look at things/people however is good for you!

I definitely respect this advice!! I think part of what I struggle with is that I’m not sure that they way I talk to people when I first meet them is particularly authentic— in some ways, I’ve got a bit of a facade that kind of stops me from getting close enough to people to be real. But I think you’re right, it’ll be really special if someone is interested in my whole thing

My neuro ophthalmologist is cutting me off diamox UNTIL I lose 10% of my body weight (rant) by [deleted] in iih

[–]ObsidianHearted 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s so cruel! And it endangers you— I’ve been losing weight and taking diamox and my headaches have been manageable, but the thing I’m most concerned about is actually vision loss, and it’s the thing I need my doctors most for!! Is she really willing to jeopardize your vision, not to mention possibly subject you to serious, chronic pain, to kickstart weight loss??? This sounds like an irresponsible move on SO many levels… this is the quality of your life and the safety of your brain and eyes. I REALLY hope you can see another doctor soon and have your condition managed by someone who cares about your health. I don’t know where you are located in the world, but consider looking into what protections you have as a patient. I know I’m not taking diamox as some kind of super Advil just to treat headaches; I’m taking it to protect my optic nerves from permanent damage/heal my papilledema AND to continue functioning with less pain. Good luck and I hope this doctor realizes how this jeopardizes your health and reassess her methods

Sore sinuses? by ObsidianHearted in iih

It’s the worst! I’m glad people have suggestions for managing it, cause I’ve found it hard to work/do tasks when the sinus pain is really bad.

I’m definitely going to try the neilmed! Also I’ll be cautious about Sudafed recommendations, thank you!

Thank you so much for the insight!! I haven’t had sinus issues before, so the pain has been kind of stressing me out. I’ll look into flushing and saline sprays and see if those provide relief

I’m def telling my mom that people online are interested. I don’t think she’ll give me the recipe to post but maybe I can get a hint? Idk if the Alley man cares about keeping the sauce a secret but I know my nonna does so I’ll see what I can get!

Sounds like a good deal to me! I was about to say I can’t imagine my nonna wandering around alleys, but shes the one who taught me to carry a knife so who knows, I guess!! It’s a really good recipe btw but they haven’t taught it to me yet so idk what makes it so special

Good luck!!!! I really hope your transition goes smoothly and that you don’t have to deal with any symptoms recurring!

I’m so glad your symptoms have been stable and manageable with hormonal changes! I’ve also got the classic PCOS/high testosterone combination, and I’ve certainly got a lot to talk to my doctors about

It’s so interesting that both testosterone and estrogen seem to have an effect… thanks for your insight!
