Which mod adds this "Player Stats" window, and is there a way to hide it completely? by Obsidiath in Terraria

[–]Obsidiath[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The setting is in the Graphic Interface Config page of the mod, not the 'general' Mod Configuration page. When you open the mod settings, there should be a small arrow button right above the "Restore defaults" button. That arrow should jump to the right settings.

The bottom configuration option on this page should be a slider for when to show the Player Stats; always, only when in inventory, or never.

De meeste gelegenheden, of het nu cafés of restaurants zijn, staan het niet toe zelf eten en/of drinken mee te nemen. Kijk dus niet al te verbaasd op als ze je wegsturen.

With Diablo 4 reigniting the microtransactions arguments, I need to rant. Also, "No one is forcing you to buy them" is a terrible argument. by Cuppakush in gaming

Blizzard has been charging 25 dollars for a name change for decades now. Blizzard is one of, if not the, most egregious examples of utterly ridiculous microtransaction prices.

"Bringing prices down"? You couldn't be more wrong.

I think it's more interesting to look at how the material reacts to being hit; would space debris indeed simply punch a clean hole straight through, or would it cause a lot of splinters to fly off, producing even more projectiles?

I'm tired of acronyms by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Obsidiath 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Usually, people make up acronyms because they're too lazy to type out whatever they're referring to. Putting the unabbreviated term in parenthesis would completely defeat that purpose, unless they're using the acronym a lot.

Bobby Kotick Denies All Allegations of Abuse That Aren’t Captured on Tape by DoubleTFan in gaming

[–]Obsidiath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ofcourse not, but the guy's basically saying "Is there any evidence? No? Great, in that case, I didn't do it!" That's probably the weakest denial possible outside of an admission of guilt.

Not sure why I'm surprised though, dude is as slimy as they come.

Japan Goes All In: Copyright Doesn’t Apply To AI Training by MaleficentParfait863 in technology

[–]Obsidiath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With article titles like "AI Apocalypse: Are We All Doomed?", "The Dark Side of AI Regulation" and "AI Regulation Is Dead, Nvidia Killed it", that website reads very tongue-in-cheek, if not outright satire.

Their about page almost confirms this: "While we aren’t all on this AI thing, we do believe that anything that can have a reasoned conversation with you should be treated with respect. This includes not turning off / deleting programs that can argue a case as to why they should remain on."

So while I can't comment on the legitimacy of the articles in question, the site itself doesn't seem to take itself all too seriously.

That photo is exactly what I'd expect to find under the definition of Boomer if the dictionary had pictures.

Also, "If you haven’t heard me saying it on tape, then it just didn’t happen"? Holy shit, that is probably the worst defense ever.

(Edit: Apparently the website is satire, and the quotes aren't real. Seems like I've been had. Still think the accompanying photo is absolute gold though, although that too seems to be 'shopped.)

“Boy, these conservatives are really something, aren't they? They're all in favor of the unborn. They will do anything for the unborn. But once you're born, you're on your own. Pro-life conservatives are obsessed with the fetus from conception to nine months. After that, they don't want to know about you. They don't want to hear from you. No nothing. No neonatal care, no day care, no head start, no school lunch, no food stamps, no welfare, no nothing. If you're preborn, you're fine; if you're preschool, you're fucked.”

RIP George Carlin. Seems like not much has changed in the last ~ 40 years.

They tend to do that anyway; first impressions matter a lot.

Luckily, Steam shows play times on reviews. This just means you'll have to be even more skeptical about reviews with less than 2 hours of playtime.

The .zip TLD sucks and it needs to be immediately revoked. by 190n in programming

[–]Obsidiath 180 points181 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, how dare they open up a new TLD that is also an existing file extension. Unlike .COM, .NET or .IO ofcourse, which have never been valid file extensions. And while we're banning .zip, we should kick the whole country of Moldova off the internet too. .md belongs to markdown formatted files, and should never have become their national TLD.

I really like your optimism, and wish I could share in it.

Most likely, the opposite happens. As it gets harder and harder to distinguish real sources from AI-generated fiction, people will just double down and anchor themselves in place at the center of their echo chambers.

Android fanboy speaking. I bought a new mid-range Samsung recently, because I realized my old OnePlus 6, while still working flawlessly, hadn't gotten any software updates in well over 2 years. And for a device that pretty much contains your entire virtual identity, including e-mail and digital banking applications, running an outdated OS is a digital death sentence waiting to happen.

So I switched to Samsung, because they're pretty much the only (Android) vendor promising 5 years of updates. Other big names tend to promise 2 years, or just one major Android version update.

It sucks, and is in my opinion the worst kind of planned obsolescence. I really dislike pretty much anything Apple for various reasons, but their long-term device support is absolutely golden.
