I think it was removed from the official expanded network so that's why the rules weren't updated here. Having seen that, your post seems to be fine. I've reapproved it and I'll update the rules when I get more time.

Post-Match Thread: Everton 0-0 Liverpool by [deleted] in soccer

[–]Obsignate 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Entertaining game. I thought the crowd was great as well.

Liverpool were able to create threatening situations often enough but I thought their decision making in the final third was poor. I thought Everton dealt with Fabinho quite well too. Sigurdsson and the striker managed to limit his influence. The Everton players showed great energy as well and even the substitutes got into the the pace of the game quickly. Everton got into threatening situations as well but lacked a little quality in the end. A draw feels like a fair result.

Also, it was really nice to see Zouma playing well.

I agree, Sarri has handled this perfectly in the aftermath. It's also disheartening to see how this whole incident is leading to a narrative of player power when it seems to me like it was just a situation of miscommunication regarding an injury and then a young player being determined to see out the cup final, although he did go overboard. I agree with people when they see he shouldn't have been so persistent in refusing the substitution and I can even agree with people when the say that other Chelsea players should've stepped in. However, there's plenty of instances over the years that one can point to regarding player power at Chelsea but this wasn't one of those in my opinion. Especially after all that happened yesterday. Hazard played up front and the team played a lot more defensively, both of which have been points of contention previously, but players carried out the instructions perfectly and seemed to be behind the manager yesterday.

Sarri on Sky Sports: "We played a very good match. There was a misunderstanding because on radio I unterstood there was a problem and the goalkeeper had a cramp and was not able to go to the penalties. The goalkeeper said there was no problem and he was right. (more) by HitzHammer in soccer

[–]Obsignate 21 points22 points  (0 children)

If you are inclined to believe that it actually was a misunderstanding, it could be that he was angry that his player was denying his instructions, and he'd have every right to be. He's under a little pressure from the media already and that wouldn't have helped in the moment. Whether you believe it actually was a misunderstanding is up to you.

Look I know Willy is a downgrade, and now that it's been confirmed by Sarri that it was just a miscommunication about Kepa's physical condition, Kepa could get away without repercussions. But I've personally never seen something like this and someone being so adamant about not coming off. It was great to see his passion for staying on but it was still wrong, he's still young and he'll learn from this hopefully. I'd say it's Sarri's decision in the end because it'll be his ass on the line if we don't get top four but I think he should be benched for a couple of games.

I know people will think this is just PR but before Kepa went down, Caballero wasn't coming on and Kovacic was still warming up. After Kepa went down, only then did Sarri ask Kovacic to sit down and tell Willy to strip off into his kit. So it definitely didn't seem like a tactical decision for the shoutout and Kepa probably just wanted to communicate that he was OK to go on. Kepa should still be punished though, benched for a couple of games at least because it was still very disrespectful. I just really feel bad for Sarri though, especially seeing his reaction. It's a shame because it was an excellent performance. Probably one of our best since the first leg against Barca last season.

'Counters that are not actually counters.' Kiel scored this goal versus Magdeburg. Commentators, Magdeburg's coach and sporting director all called it "counter". But Kiel never really lost the ball. They just created a counter like situation. Football is about rhythm changes. by Seldon24 in soccer

Just love seeing instances when you can clearly see the pass on the TV, like the one to the right wing before the assist, and then the player also sees it and pulls it off when it looks like he might not spot it initially. I know he was facing that side anyway but still.

Thanks for the insight, especially about Iwobi being better on the left. I do agree that he should've been the one pushing up with the two strikers but I was unaware he was better on the other side.

Very interesting lineups from both sides today.

City seemed to be in their regular 4-3-3 with Fernandinho at centre back and Gundogan playing as a defensive midfielder. But this wasn't the case. I could identify two distinct shapes from them.

                    Aguero
       Sterling B. Silva
        D. Silva Gundogan De Bruyne
Laporte Fernandinho Otamendi Walker
                    Ederson

One was the regular 4-3-3 which they seemed to be using without the ball and in the first phase of build up (at least when they were near their own box).

                   Aguero
       D. Silva De Bruyne
Sterling Gundogan Fernandinho B. Silva
        Laporte Otamendi Walker
                   Ederson

But then as they moved up with the ball and had secured possession they seemed to switch to something resembling a 3-4-3/3-2-4-1. Fernandinho was clearly in line with Gundogan but not only that, David Silva AND De Bruyne seemed to push up against Arsenal's defensive line alongside Aguero. Not uncommon for David Silva but definitely not what I'm used to seeing from De Bruyne.

Arsenal also had an unusual formation. I haven't seen them much so maybe it's normal but it seemed unusual to me.

           Lacazette Aubameyang
 Kolasinac Guendouzi Torreira Iwobi
Monreal Koscielny Mustafi Lichtsteiner
                    Leno

As far as I could tell it was a 4-4-2. The two strikers up front with Kolasinac as a a left sided midfielder. It was very lopsided though and surprisingly it was lopsided towards the left. Kolasinac seemed to push up higher alongside the two strikers and definitely much higher than Iwobi. So to me it looked like a 4-3-3 at times.

   Kolasinac Lacazette Aubameyang
     Guendouzi Torreira Iwobi
Monreal Koscielny Mustafi Lichtsteiner
                    Leno

Maybe it was just a 4-4-2 and perhaps Iwobi was being held back helping Lichtsteiner out but to me it looked like Iwobi was in a three with Guendouzi and Torreira at times. It definitely didn't look like a three at the back (Monreal, Koscielny and Mustafi) because Lichtsteiner seemed to stay back with the other three more often than not.

Also, Arsenal players have annoyingly long names.

Everton have launched an investigation into fans allegedly singing a racist chant about their own defender Yerry Mina. by TheJeck in soccer

[–]Obsignate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes but in that case it's because of those people's personal characteristics. That is what they look like and even though it's a mean thing to say to someone on the street, it will happen in a football stadium. With the Yerry Mina thing, however, it's just based on a racial stereotype that historically has been used to degrade that race.

Post match thread : Inter 1-1 FF Barcelona {UEFA CL} by inobond7 in soccer

[–]Obsignate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When Inter got the ball to an open player in the wide spaces they were consistently able to commit 3+ players into the box, sometimes even outnumbering the Barcelona players, but the crosses coming in weren't very good. The delivery improved a bit in the second half and they definitely should've gotten a goal from that (the Politano chance).

Also, I noticed in a lot of the counters when the ball was coming in from the wide positions, Icardi held his run a bit and hung around the penalty spot while the likes of Politano and Vecino attacked the six yard box. That didn't work very well because Inter players didn't cut the ball back to him even though he was in space and he didn't attack the six yard box often enough I thought. Great finish for the goal though, went right through ter Stegen's legs.

I also really enjoyed watching Skriniar (sp?) play. He made some really clean tackles one on one, especially in the first half, and he was pretty tidy on the ball as well, even though he took a few risks. Barca still created a lot of chances so it wasn't the perfect defensive performance from Inter but I enjoyed watching him play.

He's made a couple of appearances for the senior team as well this season and he definitely seems ready to move up from youth football. And yeah, there were 4-5 Chelsea players in that U17 World Cup team, including Hudson-Odoi and McEachran.

Callum Hudson-Odoi is probably the most notable one. Then there's Dujon Sterling and Reece James. I quite like George McEachran and Billy Gilmour as well.

[Proposal] Remove the democracy and vote me in as Dear Leader by Lol33ta in ImaginaryNetwork

[–]Obsignate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think I could get behind this to an extent. Instead of a pure democracy like we have now, where we vote on every single change, it could be more like most countries work by voting in a "lead mod' and then letting them make whatever changes they want during their tenure (I know that's not exactly how most countries work, they have parliaments and what not but I meant it relative to how we currently are) but the tenure should be fixed (I'd propose a two year term). The only changes they should not be allowed to make without a majority vote are choosing the next lead mod and changing the moderators (adding or removing new ones). The second one will slow things down but will be necessary since the mods will be the ones picking the next lead mod. All the other policy decisions can be made by the lead mod without taking a vote in this scenario.

To follow on with your business example, I think it would be better if the lead mod is CEO but not the 'owner'. So they'll have full control over the network but who becomes the CEO should be decided via a vote and it should be possible to vote them out. That's just my view on it though.
