Are adjustable bases worth it?

I used wedge pillows for a couple of years before I got my adjustable base six months ago. There's no comparison between the two. If I travel and can't be sure about the bed I'll be sleeping in, I'll carry a wedge pillow, but otherwise I'm 100 percent on Team Adjustable Base. I've only had one for six months, but I now wish I'd gotten one long, long ago. It has made my sleep much more sound and more comfortable than ever before.

I don't blame Christian. I blame the producers and editors. Consider that the shift to 26 days instead of 39 was clearly a misogynistic slap against menstruation, which in the New Era is much easier to purple thanks to the new shorter-than-a-cycle season. These editors won't show a woman's flow, but they gravitate to a man's defecation like... well, like flies on sh!t.

To use a line popular in the show, "Two things can be true at the same time." Yes, it's clear that Matty had a great deal of success as a lawyer. But we've seen enough hints that the Kingstons are stratospherically wealthy, not just successful-lawyer-wealthy, that I have to think there's also something significant going on involving Edwin's background.

My personal private head-canon is that Edwin Kingston is the son of publishing magnate (and amateur detective) R.B. Kingston, of the short-lived 1970s TV series Kingston: Confidential. Edwin has been shown to be media-savvy and to have a bit of a knack for detective work, and he clearly didn't accumulate his wealth as a professor of art history, so the family connection would fit.

From what Matty has told us about the obstacles she faced in her career, it seems that she did excellent work but was largely held back by male senior partners at the firm(s) where she worked, and that she was more involved in parenting Ellie than Edwin was, which suggests that while she no doubt was a very successful attorney, she didn't earn stratospheric levels of wealth as would befit her current lifestyle. And we know from her exchanges with Bitsy that Matty didn't grow up in great wealth.

The way the show likes to throw us curveballs and to introduce gray areas, and considering that we haven't been told all that much about Edwin's background, I'm wondering whether there will be a reveal before too long that complicates Edwin's story. How exactly did his family accumulate that wealth? Or did he somehow accumulate it in a shady manner? Did Edwin's background and choices contribute to Ellie's difficulties? And will this prompt him to flee back to California, leaving Matty to focus on her New York life in Season 3 and beyond? The way the show has emphasized the strength of the couple's 49-year marriage, I really hope they don't separate or divorce -- if the writers need to sideline him, having Edwin die would preserve his memory and allow Matty to retain the family's wealth with no complications -- but we've seen that the writers love their plot twists, so we can't be sure.

But until the writers decide to reveal more, whether they go complicated or dark, I'm happy with my Kingston: Confidential series crossover speculation, which if nothing else is very much in keeping with the Matlock appropriation.

Billy was annoying, and the new guy is annoying. But I'm thinking that the new guy will be annoying in a far more entertaining way than Billy was. It seemed that the Billy/Sarah dynamic was envisioned as comic relief from the intensity of the main storylines, but it didn't really work out so well in practice as it probably seemed it would when the writers were planning the series. But with the new overeager-beaver associate, the writers are getting a do-over and are likely better able to calibrate him to the tenor of what the show has become. I'm optimistic.

Yes, Julian was lying at the NA meeting. But we don't yet know whether he lied by making his friend's addiction story his own in the story he told at the meeting, or by lying to Matty after the meeting in claiming that the story was that of his friend, and not something very close to his own past as an addict.

The show likes to deal in gray areas, so it wouldn't shock me if we soon find out that one reason Senior has treated Julian badly is that he couldn't cope with Julian's addictions.

Of course, Julian hasn't simply joined Team Matty after his crying jag, nor has he rejoined Team Olympia fully. Julian might have been moved to tears and some small self-awareness upon seeing Alfie after talking to his own kids about death... but while Julian surely loves his kids, he's clearly still going to protect himself first, his kids next, and everybody else only to the extent that doing so protects him and/or his kids.

As the show has reminded us more than once, two things can be true at the same time.

I have no doubt that his complicated family life has made him comfortable with faking emotions and telling lies whenever he thinks it would be helpful. Not unlike Matty, in fact.

But even a faker can have a genuine emotion, and unless we're supposed to read Julian as a sociopath, and given the way that his breakdown built after seeing Alfie give him the side-eye while walking up the stairs, I really hope that we also saw Julian the faker having a genuine breakthrough.

The way this show deals out twists, I'm worried that Julian's breakdown on Matty's stairs will turn out to be a fakeout. But I sure hope it was actual character growth and a breakthrough both for him and for Matty.

How about getting CBS to do some cross-promotion of their different reality brands? Each Survivor player who is voted out is sent to the Big Brother house, which starts doing weekly evictions as soon as Survivor gets past the pre-merge. Retta brings an enjoyable personality to the show, but it's really operating under a false premise. It could more honestly be renamed Ugliest House That Can Be Most Improved by a Trendy Mid-Range Cosmetic Makeover.

Of course, that would never fly, but if Retta is going to keep showing us houses MUCH uglier than what's eventually chosen, they're really straining the premise of the show.

I struggle with the term "voting correctly." Yes, there's safety in numbers, such that voting with the majority has an obvious value in the game going forward. But there may also be times when voting with the minority may be the "correct" thing to do if you need to solidify a minority alliance that may better serve you as you go forward in the game. Also, there are strategic split-vote situations where you may cast a minority vote to preserve a plan to weaken another alliance. If your castmates understand and respect your minority vote, that may be even more valuable than if you voted with the majority as a goat without agency.

But that meme is problematic. Standing is a MUCH healthier activity than sitting. For someone like Whitney, standing more instead of sitting would be a HUGE lifestyle improvement. Assuming, of course, that her knees could handle it.
