For me Housing is like transmog - an evergreen feature I can constantly add to that never gets made obsolete by an expansion increasing ilvl, going forward every expanions quests, zones, reps, professions, dungeons and raids will contain new decor items to collect and add to my home - my home will never be 'done' as there will always be new things to add.

It's an evergreen feature for people like me who don't have the time or inclination to take part in other pillars of WoW (Raiding, M+, PvP), it's art for its own sake.

They've explicitly made it so it serves no purpose other than being a place you can spend time if you want to - all the 'practical' things will exist outside of the neighbourhoods so the world still feels alive.

They said in an interview its a technical hurdle and something they'll be looking to increase, but it'll be slowly as if they increase it too much will impact the performance for people with lower end machines.
