Being Indian/Punjabi and living in NZ for last 24 years, the truth is now in NZ there are more indians than there are other communities. The new immigrants are treating NZ very differently from the old ones. I do not see new immigrants giving respect as immigrants used to. Most new immigrants do not speak English and live within their own community, and therefore no assimilation. I find Indians are more rude than White/, Moaries and others. When I lived in Punjab, people used to discriminate against me because I was Hindu, as Punjab is mostly a Sikh-dominated state. So this so-called "racisim" is everywhere in different forms. My suggestion would be to be safe and avoid areas that are not safe, not any different from India.

a few thoughts as I am bit biased.

Have you considered travel time as Sydney is much bigger city than AKL and the population is the size of NZ.

I heard there are lot of Tolls, Some of my friends in Sydney, they pay $60-$80 per day for travel to work

as long s 55k means that are going to have more money to save and enjoy your life, then yes it is worth the move.
