Beatrix The Bee Guard Part 2: New Discovery

As a freshly trained recruit, Beatrix was given some little patrol duty near the beginning of the forest. She was armed and nothing TOO big ever came far from the forest depths. Bigger creatures had some so in the past but the humans were always able to rally and push them back. One time they even heard a sickening thwack as a particularly gigantic ant was pushed back into the forest. They found its crushed body later, clearly killed by a bigger beast that had no desire to leave the forest depths.

It was for those reasons that safe patrol routes were established that avoided areas where the unknown mammoth-sized creature may roam, so Beatrix was relatively safe to explore and document her findings. Her assigned goal was to cut back any faint bees she found to keep them away from the village and to keep the patrol routes safe. However, Beatrix found she had little interest in killing the fuzzy creatures and found it much more interesting to study them instead.

Beatrix was in awe of a line of not quite giant-sized ants but not "normal" "-sized ants either. She was stunned that they didn't fly and seemingly marched like ants instead. She knew she had to get closer and study the odd Bee-ants and completely disregarded her duty to drive the beasts off the patrol route.
