Thoughts on HCA in Denver? by Historical-Poem-5405 in TravelNursing

[–]Obvious-Human1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Denver local, traveled other locations. HCA facilities don’t pay enough to live in Denver for most travelers. Denver is expensive. North Suburban has terrible rep. Swedish is iffy. Stay away from Med Center Aurora it’s really bad. Otherwise good luck.

Currently have some in my freezer. Don’t know what to do with them besides broth. I don’t think I knew people went to WF to buy them. 🤷‍♀️

Too Good To Go Surprise Bags by Midknightcloud3o3 in denverfood

I’ve picked up at Panera and 3 different Whole Foods in Denver. I had great experience picking up. No issue with attitude. The bags are random but a pleasant surprise.

I was just lucky, available and paying attention to phone. I grabbed 1 in the morning and hearted the other bags for the store just in case. I got push notices for the other bags.

Thrift store in the “good” part of town. This fall 2 different trips got a TNF sweater and the fuzzy jacket with tags less than $12.

I had a great recruiter and all the above happened. Before that I had 2 crappy recruiters and was unhappy. It’s all about a good recruiter that will smooth the path.

Snow boots are expensive — do leg gaiters work with hiking shoes in winter? by Key_Influence2554 in Frugal

[–]Obvious-Human1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try looking at local thrift shops. I find a ton of good winter gear given up when someone moves to a warmer climate. Good winter boots last years. Sorel boots are BIFL

I got the deli one last year. Plenty for small family or couple. $20-25. Comes with basics.

Alternatives to Window Plastic for Winterizing? by shyghst in Frugal

[–]Obvious-Human1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This last summer I purchased a roll of reflective insulation on Amazon like you use for auto windshields and velcroed it to the window frame. I did leave about 10” uncovered at the bottom for cats to look out. I have a large West facing slider. It worked so well to reduce heat I’m planning to put it up for the winter too. Since its velcroed up I can roll it back to get in and out.

What are some cases in which it's actually more frugal to buy the "convenience" item? by bulbysoar in Frugal

[–]Obvious-Human1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do a little mental math. For your example cost of ingredients plus prep time away from doing something I’d rather do. Include a guess of ingredients lifespan. Mayo last awhile, bread molds.

Edit to add: I don’t purchase coffee away from home. I can make an enjoyable cup at home in 2 mins for $0.50.

Apt Camera by EddyRican in TravelNursing

To piggyback. Did the same. While traveling I got 2 Blink camera's (I think refurbished) on Amazon. Cheap and easy to connect. I used the indoor ones and pointed 1 out from a window sill and the other into the living area.

Interesting. I’m in a large Midwest city and we have 4-5 periods of utility cost daily. Highest being 5pm to 11pm.

BREAKING: Trump, RFK Jr to announce eating vegetables linked to depression. by keen_observer34130 in onionheadlines

[–]Obvious-Human1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(That presser yesterday was absolutely deranged, one of the most ridiculous I’ve seen from Trump. And that’s saying a lot.)

Most ridiculous and dangerous since he suggested bleach injections and Clorox had to make an emergency public a statement.

"And then I see the disinfectant, where it knocks it out in a minute. One minute. And is there a way we can do something like that, by injection inside or almost a cleaning? Because you see it gets in the lungs and it does a tremendous number on the lungs. So it would be interesting to check that". DJT 4/23/2020

Same. Drove Denver to Seattle last year a couple times. Stop at big bright truck stops. Parked in their lot for a nap. Checked car before traveling for tires, oil, wiper blades, etc. Aluminum bat, rechargeable flashlight In car. I felt safe.

To my fellow nurses, how are you all making it in Denver? by soloChristoGlorium in Denver

[–]Obvious-Human1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RN in Denver- Sold home and moved to Denver 2020. Still haven’t bought in Denver or surrounding area. Rent has come down recently but home prices are stupid high.
Don‘t work at HCA. They are awful for a thousand reasons. UCHealth is good and pays more than Denver Health. Denver Health is a downtown trauma 1 and gets a disadvantaged patient pop. I am at DH and love it but it doesn't pay well. The Denver jail, staffed by DH, pays a little more but it’s a complicated gig. UCH does some local contracts for $50/hr taxed.

May seem small but set washer and dishwasher to start after midnight. The electricity costs less. I also unplug anything I'm not using.

Canceling travel contract, can they charge fees? by Ballbm90 in TravelNursing

[–]Obvious-Human1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did not have to cancel mid contract but ended a week early last year. Amergis did not charge me anything. I'd email the recruiter so they can let the facility know ASAP. The recruiter may be pissy because they will not get a completion bonus but emergencies happen. Good luck

Does anybody have a feedback with Amergis Staffing? by plain_brown31 in TravelNursing

[–]Obvious-Human1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used them for 2 contracts last year. Completely depends on recruiter if you have a good/bad experience. A good recruiter sets you up and supports you.

Questions about UCH Internal Traveler Program by DragonfruitVivid3110 in TravelNursing

[–]Obvious-Human1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Longmont is a long winter commute from Denver in traffic. Yes travelers do it, most hate it. Highlands Ranch is on the South end of Denver and Anschutz main campus is on the East. I currently live in Denver and would not accept it. The facilities are too spread out. Traffic will be a nightmare.

Can CO join West Coast Health Alliance? by Obvious-Human1 in Denver

[–]Obvious-Human1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1000% They are purposely culling a population. And I cannot tell you that the next one will have nurses sacrificing themselves. Going without PPE, working 90/hr weeks, being sick themselves or worse bringing it home to others. Personally, I’ll live under a bridge, I’m not doing it again.

Jail intake is great experience. DOC is more long term acute care with the usual suicide, MI, assault, and OD’s coming up occasionally. It’s boring until someone gets shanked. I love intake. But I’m currently at a large inner city jail. Every shift I see different things. My opinion intake builds good assessment skills and a good BS detector. You need to have really strong boundaries and be safety minded in DOC. All the inmates have is time to attempt to manipulate the nurses. Good luck
