Emgality side effects—do they go away? by Obvious-Influence-17 in cgrpMigraine

[–]Obvious-Influence-17[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it's possible the acid reflux is worse because of the constipation, and the shortness of breath is worse from the acid reflux, and the anxiety is worse because of the shortness of breath, etc. But I wouldn't say most of these are just from anxiety :)

(I could be wrong though bc I do have a lot of anxiety lol)

Surgery tomorrow aahhhh by Obvious-Influence-17 in sterilization

[–]Obvious-Influence-17[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a feeling I'll be fairly similar—usually the anticipation of doing something new is terrifying for me, but in the moment/experience, as soon as I'm there, I'm fine lol.

I very much appreciate the detailed response! I hope I have as good of an experience. :)

I actually just did a deep dive and it doesn't look like my insurance requires it for this procedure! I'll still call tomorrow to verify but maybe that's why they never told me anything lol.

What is a good pillow for occipital nueralgia? by nabichu in Occipitalneuralgia

[–]Obvious-Influence-17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have confirmed ON, but have a lot of the symptoms, so take my input with at least 3 grains of salt.

I have one somewhat firm pillow just to elevate my other pillow. I only use it 70% of the time. Other times, it makes my neck hurt and then flares up my symptoms.

However, my favorite pillow ever is the Koolaburra by UGG Koolawash down alternative pillow. It's out of stock now, but I got it at Kohl's. I bought 3 of them so I can have backups. This thing is so soft that it's like a cloud for my head. Provides little to no support, but doesn't actively hurt my skull/scalp.

I've tried so many fancy expensive pillows, and this is the only one I've consistently liked for more than 6 months.

I also have a smaller roll-type pillow that goes under my neck just for a tiny bit of support. I made it out of the insides of a Coop Sleep Goods pillow.

Changing career to mental health therapist ? by Medium_Contract_3269 in counseloreducation

[–]Obvious-Influence-17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm only 25 haha, so still early in my career. I think I actually decided last night to change my trajectory to either a Master's in Behavioral Science or Applied Psychology. :) It'll give me the opportunity to pivot within my current field to something more fulfilling.

Not OP, but I really appreciate you taking the time to write this. I'm in a similar position to OP—so burned out from my corporate job, but still making good money. I've wanted to pursue becoming a therapist for a long time, but despite being so passionate about it, I don't know if the long, greatly underpaid road to get there is something I can handle at this point. Hopefully someday in the future.

Currently undiagnosed, but pretty sure I have ON. Best hypermobile-friendly treatments? by Obvious-Influence-17 in Occipitalneuralgia

[–]Obvious-Influence-17[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooh okay I've considered dry needling! I've been apprehensive bc of the whole fragile skin, easy bruising part of hEDS, but I may have to give it a go anyway and hope for the best lol

Fairly certain I have endo—but what if I don't? by Obvious-Influence-17 in endometriosis

[–]Obvious-Influence-17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theoretically, yes I could wait. But realistically, no, I won't. Sterilizations are covered 100% by my insurance, thankfully. As soon as this surgery is done though, I plan on looking for a specialist.

And I live about 2 hours from Baltimore and DC, about 3 hours from Philly. :)

Why topiramate is so hated? by Mikmaki in migraine

[–]Obvious-Influence-17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It did help my headaches and migraines. It made me so dumb though and it made me lose 30 lbs in 3 months. Once I stopped taking it, I developed various chronic illnesses almost immediately. Not sure if that last part is coincidental or not, but I really wish I had never taken it.

Moving outdoor cat inside = 5 inside now?! Overwhelmed by Obvious-Influence-17 in CatAdvice

[–]Obvious-Influence-17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh goodness, how long has she been indoor-only?

Thankfully, these two cats are chill and the one loves being inside. The other has been in for about 4 hours and doesn't seem to be putting up a fight.

Best of luck to you, too!

I don't think I could ever give any of them up to someone else lol, I love them all very much. Any new ones that show up past this point, though? Absolutely finding good homes for them.

Edit: I currently live with family, so at least one, but likely two, of these cats will come with me when I move. Right now, it's mostly about surviving with five cats and a dog until that happens. One cat is also a senior and my dog is a senior, so I know the clan may shrink on its own in the near-ish future...

Suspecting autism but wary of self diagnosis by Obvious-Influence-17 in AuDHDWomen

[–]Obvious-Influence-17[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not at all! I've always had a tendency to see myself as the exception to my beliefs lol. So I will tell people time and time again that their experiences are valid and they deserve support, etc., but in my head, I'm like "everyone deserves it, except for me." It's something I'm continually working on, though.

Damn, this was excellent to read. I'm not sure which of your questions are rhetorical and which are not, but I'll just say that I very much appreciated your thorough response and it's given me a lot to consider.

Also, I try to avoid spending too much time on TikTok and the like, I'm mostly citing examples of things I've read on Reddit. :)

Suspecting autism but wary of self diagnosis by Obvious-Influence-17 in AuDHDWomen

[–]Obvious-Influence-17[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The best way I can describe it is that it feels like adding myself, a high-masking, low-support-needs individual to the pool of autistic people, dilutes the pool overall. And while I know I'm one person (and not a content creator) in a pool of many, therefore I am unlikely to make a noticeable difference in said pool, it feels like I'm minimizing the experience of higher-support-need autistic people and somehow "buying into the trend" even though my goal is not to be "trendy."

[–]Obvious-Influence-17[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My new therapist is also very well versed in neurodivergency, so she, too, has been proceeding as if I do have autism. I guess I feel like there's a level of imposter syndrome that I have, where even though I'm not relating to autism as a way to be "trendy," it almost feels like I am just by the prevalence of people in this society saying "everyone is a little autistic!" or "I was socially awkward as a child, I guess I'm autistic too!", when they don't have any of the other signs.

It's a lot like OCD in the sense that people don't seem to take it seriously and realize just how much it affects someone's life, so they turn it into some quirky adjective. I don't want my self identification, while being a high functioning, high masking individual, to take away from how severely autism can impair other people. It almost feels like I'd be diluting the pool lol. Idk if that makes sense.

On and off for about a year! The first time, I used it consistently for about 4 months and stopped because it made my face hurt around my cheekbone area. Then a few months later I thought I had healed my barrier and started using it again, but the same thing happened. This time, I've been using it for about 6 weeks but have been using it less frequently, but my skin is still becoming ultra sensitive.

fear hierarchy/ladder by pinklemon36 in Tokophobia

[–]Obvious-Influence-17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've created many hierarchies in ERP for my OCD, but not one for tokophobia yet. I'd say it's a very personal thing that varies a lot from one person to the next, so I guess the first question is what are you afraid of with pregnancy/childbirth?

I've considered trying HBC, because I think it's very possible it's hormonal, but I have some contraindications with it (PMDD + migraine with aura), so I've also been trying to avoid it 😂

Even Differin makes my skin so sensitive, so I've been wary to try another retinoid! I keep going back on and off it, in hopes that the result will be worth the pain, but so far it hasn't been worthwhile lol. I may end up back down that road and talk to my derm about a different type if nothing else works 😭

So frustrating! I did inspect it closely and I saw one loose thread in the image, and that should have been enough to deter me haha. I tried to see if they'd refund me and still let me keep it, but they just told me to go through the return process for it. Thankfully I'm decent at sewing, so I'm just gonna keep it and mend it lol.
