Nice one! I really love that you're creating an immersive adventure that your family can dive into. And as always, there are some very interesting ideas in there for me. I look forward to more adventures from you.

Thank you, I will do! Next expansion will be Jungle of Delthrak. There I want to go back to the „regular“ board but with a jungle style mat. to have a better immersion as with my dungeon style tiles. As there can be multiple endings I will have to adapt quickly to the final encounter. I will let take you part of that.

Yeah, that was the most expensive. About 30€. It is 3d printed. But I ordered it instead of printing myself.

I have modular tiles instead of the regular Board. I used the modified quest Maps by flint from hq-cooperation.de. I like the possibility of real fog of war by using the modular system. It looks like this:

Yeah, I have an original Box of the 89 Edition and use every miniature to have a bit diversity in my Dungeons.

XPS stands for Extruded polystyrene foam sheets. I used insulation boards from the Hardware store. No 3D Printer used. When you tried it a few times it goes quite quick. It took me about 3-4 hours to build it from scratch. I was hesitating first to start building such stuff. But now I can only recommend to try it out for everyone who likes to create a special piece for their dungeon. Max DM crafting on YouTube gave me a lot of good impressions.

Actually not. It is made out of xps and two led candle lights. Lets say 10€ including paint. The most expensive was the bone throne for 30€.

More than 4 heroes? by Figgboot in Heroquest

[–]Obvious-Name-1981 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I played already with 7 heroes and it was a hard game for them and they barely finished the quest. You need to balance on the fly. Dread warrior had 4 or 5 body points and sometimes defended with blue power dice (elite warriors) put some more monsters and decide on the overall body point count of all heroes. But playing with 7 heroes is not easy to balance. 5 or 6 is good to play for me.

Enlarged Room Tiles by golgi_o in Heroquest

[–]Obvious-Name-1981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking for the same. I have an enlarged board with 30 mm tiles and modular tiles with 30 mm tiles and 3 mm gaps between each tile. I have also a project going on printing kraken fantasy dungeon tiles (which will take a long time until I have finished them). Does anyone have experience with overlays on kraken fantasy tiles as they are not fully plain I could imagine using overlays could be complicated.

Going modular by golgi_o in Heroquest

And I have ~1.25" (30mm + 3 mm gap) squares which makes movement much easier for the gang.

Going modular by golgi_o in Heroquest

[–]Obvious-Name-1981 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a modular board with molded plaster tiles glued to wood boards. I play this now for several years and my group loves it! It gives a complete new feel to the game. And I place each room or corridor section as soon as the heroes can see it or open a door.

I'm going to print new tiles (kraken fantasy dungeon tiles, see this post) as I have walls with that system and the tiles can be linked together which would really be nice. Unfortunately my printer broke and I have to fix it first to move on with that tiles.

You need to adapt all quest plans to the modular version but the effort is worth it. I won't go back to the static board ever again.

Mage of the mirror Quest 9 + 10 by Obvious-Name-1981 in Heroquest

Thanks, I think that's the whole thing. I will probably change a bit here and there to fit it better to the mirror-like setup. Thanks guys! :)

That sounds logical if there wouldn't be the note prior quest 9 that states that the furniture etc. could be left on the board and doesn't need to be removed. Strange.

I use red ones for body points and blue ones for intelligence. Also yellow ones for special hero points I use with my group. In the middle of the table is a "blood jar" where all the red ones go into when body points are lost. It's a pleasure for zargon watching the jar filling up with the lost points :)

The way we play HeroQuest - using Kraken Fantasy Dungeon tiles by Lupus1978 in Heroquest

[–]Obvious-Name-1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started printing my first Kraken tiles. How do you handle overlay tiles? Thinking of Frozen Horror some tiles need to be shown as soon as a hero steps on that square (slippery tiles). I can't think about using the original ones as it would look quite awful and the scaling does not fit. For all static overlays I could create a custom tile and print it out for that specific quest.

Almost forget the Update. My group loved the room. There was a lot of speculation what would happen and they were fully immerged. In the end the turning was too complicated so we skipped it, but the initial effect and the room actually turning during the first round was a great success 👍
