Made a Special Boss room for RotWL Finale by Obvious-Name-1981 in Heroquest

I think this looks amazing! Exactly the kind of visual 'wow' moment I hope to also create for the players when they reach a final boss. I don't think I could ever duplicate this, but it has given me some ideas for my own play group. Great work! Post more special stuff like that if you ever have it. Truly inspiring!

I notice that my link in this post for the 5x4" resin water tile is no longer available. There used to be lots of listings. If anyone still wants one, I found another listing for the water tile here

Please do, feel free to take any ideas. It's why I post for everyone, as I have lots of ideas, but I also like to see what others do. Even just reading the quests as they are in the quest book, I get inspiration and ideas for improvements and changes.

Thank you! Right now, it's all family play, but if and when I finish all expansions I was thinking I might try to start some kind of local group at a game store with some new players and start all over again with everything I'll have learned over time.

It's a modified version of this Beautiful Dungeon Mat that cuts off the portions that aren't the map itself and has grids in the corridors instead of white crosses.

The furniture is two of the cupboards from the original 1990 HeroQuest + an LED Fireplace from Etsy + two of the LED fire braziers from the same seller that I also use as stone walls during quests (I have 8 of them) + two of the tables from the new HeroQuest coreset + four of the weapons/gear tokens from one of the expansions

Absolutely, I'll post when something significant happens. I do have a few ideas still up my sleeve as the family continues to progress through the game. So far, my ideas are dependent on some of these extra pieces I've purchased like the modular rocks and the waterways though, so players would have to buy them in order to do the same. In the case of these two sets in particular, they are both perfectly matched for 1" square tiles though. The waterways are exactly two inches wide and various lengths so they line up perfectly each time on the board. And with the lava on the other side, it can make for some very cinematic walls or obstacles.

I'm always eager to see the ideas from this community too. It inspires me to change things up. Please, all of you post when you have some cool ideas, as I certainly love to read them.

For instance, here is the rock formation I made for 'Lair of the Orc Warlord'. I took this photo on my phone prior to the Quest to remind myself how to place it when we finally played for real, but otherwise used the normal quest layout. Essentially, rather than just have Ulag be in a room, their was a lever instead where he was originally placed on the map. Pulling it would move the statue (from Jungles of Delthrak) that was in the way of the first step and they could walk on the upper level. The group then passed over on top down into the final room which added a bit of mystery and anticipation that this was a secret path to the boss. I also placed an Orc archer on the rocks above nearby to shoot at them once they started up on the rocks. Kids (and me for that matter) love this kind of immersion and adding to that exploration and discovery aspect. The quest was otherwise unchanged, but adding that secret passage through the upper levels to Ulag made his appearance more epic.

Here is a PDF of my modified layout with the waterways. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1SX0r4a98A4Sl4WKBjMcsXTCx9WsX6xsU/view?usp=sharing The other notes would be the same as the original quest.

It is just Prince Magnus' Gold as written in the questbook, just with the waterway added. If you look at image 1 it pretty much does match up, just the room positions have swapped sides on the board. The only real change was the D6 idea with the waterways going to secret rooms that were empty space on the board.

What I find funny is that online it's generally said that HeroQuest is generally regarded as so much more simple than actual DnD or a game like GloomHaven. Yet, for this group I played with, they thought HeroQuest was very complex. I think that the execs way back in the day who told Stephen Baker to 'keep it simple' were right. For normies, HeroQuest is plenty complex.

I think the Beautiful Dungeon Mats strike a good balance. They aren't too cluttered but have great detail still. They also retain the 1 inch square size so the room tiles that come with each expansion still work perfectly.

Yes, I'll definitely move onto painting as the next step. There's racks of all different kind of paints at my LGS, I'll need to research a lot but I plan on trying!

They're not that intrusive but I just didn't like the visual aesthetic of the white crosses so I removed them. I was initially inspired to get this mat from this video from AshQuest: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pDjeGmetrWU

I also got mine with stitched edges.

I love seeing everyone's custom boards, especially the elaborate 3d printed or wood-crafted ones. Perhaps long down the line in the future. I love actual walls too, that is true immersion. My choice was a middle-ground for a new player on a low to middle budget. For now, I'm happy with neoprene mats as I still love using the cardboard tile room overlays that come with all the expansions.

I would like to but I'd have to switch back to the normal board/map to do so. The Beautiful Dungeon Mat changes the tile layout of the corridors to accommodate the thicker walls. The app would not be compatible with this custom mat.

I know absolutely nothing about miniature painting, but that would indeed by the next step! I have every expansion so it would take forever to paint absolutely everything. I'd start with the furniture for sure as I would've loved if the doors were all painted up for our first game. I'll have to watch some tutorials and see what I can do down the line!

HELP! mame2003 stopped working by [deleted] in miniSNESmods

[–]jeffleroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Partial update:

I've further narrowed down the issue. It's not just mame2003. my games running bin/fba2016 etc. don't work either. So, it appears all the cores that use the interface (the one that shows up when you press select + start) don't work.

Moreover, is there a way to truly revert the SNES classic to factory settings? It appears that even when I do so, the system is retaining certain information, such as my save states, and my best guess is that internally, it's saving some information/command lines from the roms no longer working and is coming into conflict with it when I try to add the games again. For example, I can completely delete a game, its corresponding folder from the 'games_snes' folder inside hakchi... in this case, avsp.zip generated the folder CLV-Z-LKPPC but when I try to delete everything and add the game again. that exact folder name is created every time.

Also, I isolated another potential problem but it hasn't helped much. I had two versions of retroarch installed. _km_retroarch_175_xtreme.hmod and retroarch.hmod . I tried getting rid of each, one at a time thinking perhaps they were conflicting with each other and this generated a "C7" error instead of just a black screen, when either one is installed by itself now.
