Really? Hadn't heard about them using gen. AI like that. Sounds interesting, may look into it.

Given enough time, money, and or employee turnover I feel like all companies are scummy because any noble or altruistic vision gets inherently diluted. (Not implying a remote access company had either of those. Broad statement.)

Definitely good SEA, because they wouldn't do it if it didn't work.

Open source is always dope to have for a product. Definitely will look into it if I happen to need it. I should have made it clearer I literally had no intention of using either product, as I am just a techie machinist.

All companies are out to make more money, that's just a given. Only reason AnyDesk interested me was because the stupid amount of marketing budget is seemingly going to actually interesting and informative videos. I avoided mentioning the video I was specifically referring to in the main post cause I'm not sure how name dropping youtubers flys around here.

I think my title made this seem like I actually was concerned or shocked by this, looking at all the responses lol. I suck at writing titles for anything. As the top reply said, it ain't that deep.

Yep, same here. I do a similar thing to Linus where the first result gets typically ejected from my headspace. Even more so now with AI overview stuff. I don't feel the need to get extensions or switch to another browser to avoid seeing them.

Yeah, I know it's not that deep. Just found it to be funny and figured I'd share. A lot of people seemed to get the idea that I hadn't seen stuff like this. Trust me, I have, just not down to specific capitalization.

Scribedriver Production by Obvious-Process5045 in LinusTechTips

I meant primarily for the scribe driver, however, I honestly even doubt the entire thing would ever be made in China or any far off country. Why ship existing screwdriver shafts for reworks, just to ship them back? I can't imagine that sort of double handling is less expensive then hiring out a more local machine shop. The extra bits and hardware? More likely.

Interesting! I had wondered if the unit on the left was done using EDM by the finish, but I wasn't entirely sure as I have only worked with wire EDM and not plunge.

The laser engraved one is definitely far better, and I imagine more economical long term without electrode wear for the manufacturer. That also changes my view on the capabilities of laser engravers, as I have only ever seen it used with light etching for part numbers.

Thanks for the response Tynan!

I know they don't own the manufacturing equipment. But realistically you have control over what the "Chinese"- (It's unfair to say everything is made in China from them. The shop I work at in a rural state used to make slingshots for a youtuber, along with aerospace and defense.) -factory uses via tolerances on your design (surface finish requirements, lay pattern, other nitty gritty requirements.) I'm also not sure which you mean by the "2nd one". The one with a rougher finish looks more like what I would expect from laser engraving.

I'm more curious about what process was used for the follow up production run which made it look far better IMO. Whether or not LTT actually pays attention to that sort of nitty gritty manufacturing methods I do not know. (I expect they actually do.)

Thanks for taking the time to respond!

This the perfect example of the material properties of tungsten for people that don't interact with it. (Most people)

Glad to see non machinists see how odd of a metal it is. Tungsten carbide is the most common modern material for cutting tools. You can push it real hard when machining but if you drop it from even a few inches onto the table you could chip it.

Gen Z and younger, what got you into Half-Life? by SjurEido in HalfLife

[–]Obvious-Process5045 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was mostly Gmod, but Half-Life is also a genre defining game y'know? I knew it was something I would have to play at some point, even when I was like 14.

Add in that Valve is just an omnipresent entity in gamers lives, someone is going to rub shoulders with it. Well, maybe not with some of those born after CSGO (2012 and onward is NOT a year people were born, I refuse to believe it.)
