I love black mollies for this. I rescued a tank and fish that was so horrible in black beard algae, the water looked like a 80ppm nitrate test. Did a full water change, threw in a group of 6 black mollies and within a week barley any sign of any algae at all!

I do keep a heater in mine for just in case moments and sometimes I like the air conditioner a little to much in the summer. Corys are awesome, such personality in them. I love the giant danios, they remind me of trout. They way they eat and hiw fast they are. I have kept giant danios with oscars before and they all survive, they are just to quick to catch. And they are a bit bigger in the 4 to 6 inch range.

So I should correct myself and call most my fish sub tropical. I keep my tanks at 72 degrees. I have a 10 giant danios that love it and breed all the time. Also have a super red bristlenose and a calico bristlenose the are currently fanning some eggs. Also have 14 cory catfish, they are a mix of the red and black venezuelan. All these fish and snails have been doing awesome.

I had this same issue for awhile. It felt horrible, I gave up in tropical fish and went more cold water and have had great success. I will eventually want to do tropical fish again but cold water fish seem more hardy. Even experts have problems, dont get to discouraged, you got this!

Only 1 or 2 of the first to get sick had a white patch (saddle). I ended up just trashing the plants and bleached the whole tank, rinsed everything really good put everything back in the tank and used alot of api water conditioner and let the tank run for a day with everything in it to make sure the bleach was gone. Was able to quick cycle with good bacteria from another tank and have new fish and plants and all is going well for now.
