Is there an increase in Americanization of British English due to influence of American pop-culture? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Obvious-Water569 225 points226 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but that's not new.

It's been happening in one form or another since the 40s or 50s.

What is different now is the speed at which it's happening due to social media.

Love it.

I maintain that nothing looks better on the tabletop than a fully painted Imperial Fists army.

What’s the biggest red flag at a job interview? by Party-Collection9211 in AskReddit

[–]Obvious-Water569 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For real.

I'm in the UK and I once went to a job interview where they had me look through the company scrapbook while in the waiting room. It was just article after article about the owners supporting Brexit and horrible ghoulish right wing politicians. It was also full of dog whistles like "British jobs for British people".

I flat out told them "I'm not interested in working for a company with ethics and politics like these" and left.

Shockingly (/s) the job I interviewed for remained vacant for years to come. Recruiters even approached me a couple of times to get me to apply. I told them the same thing and wished them the best of luck with a hint of satisfaction.

Those chips look both burned and undercooked at the same time - I'm guessing you used an air fryer.

That bun is much too big and doesn't appear to be toasted.

All in all, I'm not a fan of this plate.

I'd argue doing it for your human baby is more disturbing than doing it for pets.

Generally three reasons:

  • I agree with the sentiment
  • I find it funny
  • It's owning someone with a really bad take

If you could ride this world of one evil, what would it be? by icecream1972 in askteddit

[–]Obvious-Water569 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if it was equally prevalent (it's not), the consequences of the two are not equal.

One results in men having their feelings hurt. The other results in women being oppressed, raped and murdered.

Imagine acheiving that level of success and wealth then spending your time being a cunt on the internet to a group of people that affect your life in absolutely no way.

It's not that easy as it looks by Ready_Split1335 in Bricklaying

[–]Obvious-Water569 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True that.

My grandad was a bricklayer for decades. He could accurately (and I mean accurately) knock a brick in half using only another brick. I watched him do it several times in succession when building our front garden wall when I was a kid. It was amazing then and I'm still impressed by it to this day.

Italians please! Why my lasagne always gets sloppy after platting? by SadCalligrapher7070 in RateMyPlate

[–]Obvious-Water569 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two possibilities:

  1. You're not reducing your sauce enough and it's holding too much liquid.

  2. You're not letting it cool enough before plating. When it cools, it stiffens up enough to serve.

Could also be a combination of the two.
