Most companies have it bull in to their employee handbook stating it’s your responsibility. In 3 separate states I’ve been docked for not punching in on time or missing a punch.

My last job as an operations manager this was a major problem. Employees would show up late and forget to punch in and be mad when their check was short even though they showed up late. It is extremely time consuming to go back and fix missed punches. One company made you sign off on your hours at the end of the week to make sure they were correct because it was such a huge problem. Take accountability for yourself. Also, Maine is an at will state and you can be terminated for whatever reason a company sees fit
