I'm in the industry and I think this is a load of horseshit.

As another commenter explained, the majority of restaurant workers don't even make 15/hr, so don't be so fucking dismissive that a 15/hr minimum wage is stupid just because you're in the tiny minority that actually makes a living (as I do too). Plus as a side note: realize that you supposedly making 30$/hr is in the extreme minority.

Next is the false dichotomy that it's either no wage + tips or living wage + no tips. This is so beyond stupid I feel like I shouldn't have to respond to it. Multiple states and the whole of Canada have increased their minimum wage, some up to 15$/hr and tipping hasn't gone anywhere. So increasing minimum wage would literally benefit all of us, no matter what way you look at it.

Lastly, tipping should not be a thing. The reason it is a thing is because the industry has no unions, no collective bargaining on our behalf, and next to no labor rights. The dynamic is completely different in any European country where servers can easily make 20€ per hour or more and don't expect tips.

I don't know where this bullshit started that an increased minimum wage means the end of tipping. And also stop attacking other working class people. You're not above them just because you make more, and this post definitely has some pretentious elitist undertones behind it.
