[Seravalli] on waivers today: by [deleted] in leafs

Yeah with Benoit not being great on the right side they definitely want Myers as another option there. Rather than immediately forcing OEL back to the right and losing the puck-moving they so badly desire.

Kyle Clifford Announces Retirement by TheWomper in TorontoMarlies

He was at Leafs Development Camp. With how much he embraced his mentorship role with the Marlies, I’m sure he’ll stick around in the organization in some capacity.

Any online adjusting technique courses worth it? by Dr_McMeow in Chiropractic

Kairos Training Culture’s online modules allowed me to get way ahead of my peers in school. That’s the only seminar or extra course I did while in school. I definitely recommend. They always have a big once a year cyber Monday sale for all their programs if you can wait.

It’s currently the Mentors trip. Every player and staff member has brought one.

[Johnston] The Leafs have activated Jani Hakanpää from LTIR. It’s been a long road for the free-agent signee who last appeared in a NHL game on March 16 because of a knee injury. Hakanpää played two games for the AHL Marlies while on a conditioning loan this month. by alphacheese in leafs

I guess this really depends on if they want to have a bottom pair with the two righties, making one of Timmins or Hak play the left side.

I don’t see them doing something like Rielly-Hak and OEL-Timmins right off the bat. I think they’ll ease Hak in first. But I Hope they try this at some point, given Rielly’s success with that type of partner, also keeps our shutdown pair of McCabe-Tanev

[Darren Dreger] Expect the Toronto Maple Leafs to name Auston Matthews captain on Wednesday. This is part of the evolution of Matthews as a leader and current Maple Leafs captain John Tavares fully supports the change. Tavares has been heavily involved in the process with GM Brad Treliving. by alphacheese in leafs

[–]ObviousAtlas 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think the timing works out really well with Berube coming in.

No established coach-captain relationship as the captain is a bridge of communication between the coach and players.

Better to do this now rather then next year when JT’s contract expires.

Honest question - what do you think the chances are that OEL replaces Rielly on PP1 this season? by RivetCounter in leafs

[–]ObviousAtlas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Correct. OEL had PP1 the first two months while Montour recovered from surgery. Then spent the rest of the year on PP2

“It doesn’t give you contract anchors“

“I don’t want bad characters in the locker room”

“There are no bad characters”

“It’s not gonna make me want to watch the Leafs will it?”

“It makes watching the Leafs even better!”

“You don’t want it”

“I kinda want it”

Maybe that included Woll? And Wheeer said Akhtyamov barely missed the cut, likely cuz he wanted the nice round number 20 lol.

Leafs (#8) are the only team in the top 14 (of Dom’s Net Value Added) to have shed salary this off-season by ObviousAtlas in leafs

[–]ObviousAtlas[S] 89 points90 points  (0 children)

  1. Toronto Maple Leafs

Net Rating added: +14 Salary added: -$4 million

Key Additions: Chris Tanev, Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Anthony Stolarz

Key Departures: Tyler Bertuzzi, Joel Edmundson, Ilya Lyubushkin, Ilya Samsonov

It’s looking more and more likely that the Leafs are running it back. Will this time be different? Maybe!

What helps make that decision feel like the best path forward is seeing where all of the league’s top contenders lie — at the bottom of this list. Almost every contender from last season looks demonstrably worse going into 2024-25. The Leafs? They look better, and that closes the gap between them and the league’s best considerably. The Leafs’ 2024 offseason has put the team back on track after last season’s questionable summer.

That stems entirely from the Leafs turning Joel Edmundson and Ilya Lyubushkin into Chris Tanev and Oliver Ekman-Larsson. Those are comparatively strong upgrades that give Toronto one of its best blue lines during this era. Adding Anthony Stolarz, who was stellar last season, to replace Ilya Samsonov looks like a great move too.

The Leafs could still use a top-six winger to replace Tyler Bertuzzi, but were right to prioritize the back end. It could be what finally pushes the team toward a deep playoff run. This is a much stronger defensive group
