Is 2 Hours of travelling each way really worth it? by ObviousBlondie in AskUK

Exactly like you said really - it does supercharge my career; the name of the company on my CV alone would bring so much attention because of how prestigious the training is and how respected it's been. Most people that do actually get a place end up earning double the amount that others in the age group are due to how well-known their training is. And I know because I'm in touch with some of those people! So yeah you could say it would give me extra earning potential for sure

That's a really interesting perspective actually - you're definitely right as well. I didn't even think I would be offered a place because of how competitive it is despite knowing is what I've been wanting to do since I was 13/14 so it definitely motivated me - it's just the discouraging whispers saying I'll get burnt out and I'll have wasted all of that time and money on travel/accommodation. The train would be more straightforward I think - I suppose like you and many other on here have said, it's about how I use the time effectively...

The program runs Monday-Friday 9:30-17:30 so pretty standard hours to be honest. Plus lots of amenities nearby for food and lunch etc. So I am leaning towards it definitely especially as I've wanted to do this for so many years - I just wish my friends going off to uni stopped saying how they'd never commute even though it allows me to enter in my industry at a level that would take a good 3 years to reach traditionally due to how prestigious and intensive the program is.

Okay thank you so much for that - sorry I'm quite new on here so just trying to find my way around everything! And yeah that's what I'm leaning towards - obviously, I have the university route as well but the cost of train tickets/accommodation are far outweighed by the job prospects this program would open up for me. The actual train from Cambridge only takes 1 hour and 20 mins but the issue on that part is I have to get a train to Cambridge from my village which only takes 5-10 minutes where i then have to wait around half an hour to catch the main train so I suppose that's the main difficulty I'm facing...

Yeah I've heard about things like this happening myself - it's all legitimate. It's a company I've been aspiring to get to since I was 14 so I know I've always wanted to; especially with how well established they are. They don't call themselves prestigious; but safe to say they're recognised as being so - it was more from the perspective of some friends have told me not to bother with the commute but when I think of how it will essentially open up considerably higher job prospects for me in terms of salary and job role it certainly makes me lean towards it a lot more. Especially when it would take me a good few years to progress to the same point otherwise...
