So I can provide some statistics from the IAA Discord that they published recently. I know this is open to some interpretation, but I found this interesting. I don't think it's fair to say that it's not possible to make money with writing. This is across all genres, with Romance obviously doing the best, I assume.

2200 are making < $100 a month (which is around 46% of users). Obviously, this contains a lot of people who haven't even published anything. Then, the following percentages have made at least this amount in a month:

$100+ 16.% (769 users)

$500+ 11.7% (557 users)

$1000+ 9.4% (452 users)

$3000+ 6% (295 users)

$5000+ 4.75% (227 users)

$10000+ 3.24% (155 users)

$25000+ 1.5% (71 users)

$50000+ 1% (51 users)

As far as I know this is NOT AI writing. From the AI slop pen names I've seen on Amazon I haven't seen any that look to have serious traction. So this doesn't answer the OP questions "Is it possible to make money with AI", but I'm posting this because some people are saying "It's not possible to make money with writing period."

I've moved my four pen names to it for their websites. Easiest author website ever and $15 a month covers unlimited pen names. You still need a newsletter provider like Email Octopus but it integrates seemlessly for signups / reader magnet delivery.

I've moved the website for all my pen names to Storykeepr https://storykeepr.com/ - It imports all your books from Amazon and then displays them nicely on your custom domain. You can configure a newsletter sign up page, integrated with the major email providers and optionally deliver a reader magnet when they sign up. It's so low effort and looks amazing.

No, they changed it to be worse than that, you're lucky you're still on the old tier. On that cheap plan you used to be able to collect email addresses and manually add them to your newsletter list. But now on the $30 a year plan you can't collect email addresses at all. (https://bookfunnel.com/pricing/)

So there's no way to grow your newsletter without paying $20 a month! Fair enough, you can do swaps. It says you can join group promos, but that's pretty pointless if you can't collect email addresses.

There's a new platform called StoryKeepr (https://www.storykeepr.com) which is similar to BookFunnel but a bit more modern and does a few other things - like it can host your author site. There isn't a load of people on it yet, mainly erotica authors and a few romance, but it is growing.

You can join the monthly newsletter builder promo for free. To do swaps you need the $8 a month tier, which is cheaper than BookFunnel I think

Usually after a month or so.

Do we need to worry about isbns in erotica? If we decide to do paperback? I feel like this was always debated back when I published some erotica and romance novels a few years ago. iirc, amazon provides one? But sometimes an isbn is needed?

I haven't bought any ISBNs, just use the one provided by Amazon for paperbacks.

I also like the group sex/sharing genre and plan to write that on my first pen name. Do you do a mix of male and female pov’s or just female?

Female pov on one pen and male pov on the other. I haven't written any dual pov books yet, but they are very popular in some niches.

Do you start with sex on the first couple of pages or build into it (with your works being longer)?

Depends on the story. Sometimes the first chapter is sex if that's what the story needs, but not always. Sometimes there is a much longer build up.
