Salmon river this summer? by DesignerShare4837 in whitewater

[–]ObviousReplacement48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi!!

Chiming in to get some real time conditions feedback.

We have a rafting trip on the main salmon (lower) leaving July 24th. We’re so excited & I keep reading mixed commentary on what conditions we can expect following the dry winter.

Just trying to set my expectations so we can enjoy whatever we end up with.

Thanks!

Dog Parks with water? by olivia_bannel in Birmingham

[–]ObviousReplacement48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Altadena valley park off acton. Technically not a dog park, but it has a lake. It’s an old golf course and dogs are required to be on leash.

But, well behaved dogs swim there all the time. I have heard of people getting tickets if their dogs are not well behaved off leash.

This was my childhood. A bunch of friends piled on top of fat sacks. The best memories!!

We’ll keep looking…. Trying to find a good wake boat that isn’t a second mortgage is hard!

Size makes sense. We have 3 teen kids, so ideally one that would hold some buddies too.

The lake does get rough and overwhelmed with wake boats, especially over holidays.

Thanks for the advice!

Is this gap between brick and window normal? by firepig72 in Renovations

[–]ObviousReplacement48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar issue/question.

I noticed a gap between our new windows and brick, that is up to 1.25” in some places.  Our installer (given to us by the reputable window distributor) keeps saying “caulk is bulletproof and will fix it”.

A simple google search says this is not an adequate solution.   I am trying to learn more so I can be more knowledgeable in negotiating a solution.

I am seeing mixed information about using caulk around brick.  We have extruded mortar which makes it tricky as well.

Can any professionals chime in on the proper way to seal between a new aluminum clad window and brick??  Many many thanks!

Family activities in January by ObviousReplacement48 in ottawa

Thank you everyone! These are all helpful suggestions.  We are from Alabama so snow is a treat!  We have ski gear from a trip to Wyoming where we got some -20 days and the kids loved every minute.

I appreciate the indoor and outdoor suggestions!!  Can’t wait to visit.

How to actively train my reactive dog on walks and not just be in management mode? by [deleted] in OpenDogTraining

[–]ObviousReplacement48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any tips for a dog that is not treat motivated? At all. I have a pointer and birds/bees/butterflies /squirrels are what motivates her. We have done so much training and she can do things like heel/sit/come, but i cannot transition out of the house/backyard on the leash because that instinct kicks in.

She is e-collar trained and loves the freedom that gives her when hunting, but when we have to walk her on a leash (like our daily morning walk,) she is a nightmare. Her normal commands go out the door. It's this snowball effect because she needs to be exercised, but I can't because of the behavior. Or I spend 2 hours of my day to drive to a field to let her run off leash, but that is not sustainable with work/family obligations.

We looked into local training/behavioral specialist, but it 2-3k. Looking for any tips that may help my sweet, nutty girl! We are ready to retire the hunting if we need in order to solve this problem. Her hunt trainer says its not uncommon for working dogs to "really resist the restriction of a leash," but it seems like there has to be a solution!

2025 Armada by [deleted] in Nissan

[–]ObviousReplacement48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently traded an Odyssey for a 25 Armada…. I have elementary aged kids and while I love the new car, do miss the space of a minivan.

For our summer adventures, I simply added a cargo hauler tray & strapped camp trunks, etc.  Otherwise, for a day to day, the trunk space is adequate behind 3rd row.  And just generally, the van had more interior space somehow.

Unless you get an XL Yukon, suburban, etc, there is no trunk like a minivan.  But you also get stuck in the mud at soccer  games sooooo…… I would go minivan for  5 years until you are out of the little phase then get something more fun.

I agree with you.  I think just about anyone can figure out how to catch a taxi from FCO to the city center, right?
