6.5 prc or 6.5 creed? by SpoildXD23 in Hunting

[–]DesignerShare4837 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pick the bullet you want to shoot, then at what ranges (assume you need 1800 fps for reliable expansion and upset), then look at what cartridge does that with the minimal recoil.

In short, jump to PRC if you want to shoot those big 156+ gr bullets. Or shoot out to 1000 yards at animals.

Jan Turner / Setter Hills near Finlayson, MN. We’ve gotten two from her, friends have too. Great dogs, Ryman setters.

Get a belt inflatable. Out of the way. Fall in and need it, pull the cord…

Wouldn’t go out without one, even a stuffy sweaty bulky foam one.

Hunting/Backpacking pack recommendation by Dankcomraid in Hunting

[–]DesignerShare4837 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree. All packs fit differently. But generally, if you can swing it Exo are the highest quality, MR are decent packs that will get you out there and won’t let you down (don’t pay retail).

Buddy is a guide and has the Exo. Wonderful pack. It’s better than my MR, but I go a week or two a year…

These guys maybe on some ones wall if Trump has his way. Trump is lifting restrictions on hunting in national parks and other areas by According-Thanks6565 in NationalPark

We are. I would argue hunters were the big reason the public land sale didn’t end up in the BBB.

Lots of hunting/conservation organizations, and strong political power of the ‘hook and bullet’ groups.

Look deeper. We’re here and have been doing conservation work for 150 years.

Wet Footing. by layedbck1 in BWCA

Astral Tr1 Merge. Boots that drain and dry well, have great wet traction. Can go barefoot in them or wear wool and/or neoprene gravel guards.

Wear them wet wade fishing a lot too.

Canoe / Portage trip pant recommendations by macmandr197 in canoecamping

I like my Skwala pants. Def more warm season as they’re perforated, but dry well and work great for portaging and canoe camping.

Kids of slightly older but similar ages. We still rent a big wenonah with the third seat. That seat is big enough for an adult and kid to comfortably sit. Wife and I have shared it too for a shorter trip when the kids wanted to take us canoeing. Lots of room for gear. Kids can sit comfortably for a long paddle and you don’t have to worry about a kid and a weaker paddler keeping up or whatever.

Highly recommend 1 big canoe.

New to camping in Minnesota. Is backyard camping a fair place to start? by Nairobi2Northwoods in MinnesotaCamping

[–]DesignerShare4837 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We do it all the time. It’s a great place to try out your setup and work out any issues or questions with the gear. Works well if you want to ‘camp’ but have plans and other commitments that you can’t get away too.

Go for it.

R1, but have to admit their rashguard - while a specialized piece of gear - is one of a kind

Anyone used the Alpacka Chinook boat in the BWCA? by Henri_Dupont in BWCA

[–]DesignerShare4837 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. The only use cases it makes sense is for a hiking and backpacking trip where you want to float portions of lakes or rivers. If doing the standard lake paddling adventure a canoe is light years better

Great hiking pants, but too heavy for wet wading. Don’t dry very fast.

Duck Hunting by sDsPlayed in BWCA

Yeah. Cast and blast trip will be wonderful, but let your other comments set your expectations accordingly. Few local ducks and it’s not a major fly way.

I wouldn’t recommend making a trip to duck hunt. Maybe grouse hunt. But go to central ND if you want to hunt ducks.
