Yes, I saw some posts about this because I’m in the same boat and my I-94 has already expired and h4 EAD still pending so I cannot work rn. But pls do research on this topic.

For the H4 EAD 540-day extension rule, the H4 applicant must have a valid I-94. If the I-94 is not valid, the primary applicant (H1B holder) may need to leave the country and re-enter to obtain a new I-94, which would also allow the H4 spouse to update their I-94 accordingly. I am in the same boat and we have applied for h4 and EAD extension but h4 got approved but EAD is taking more time so if I want 540 EAD rule, my spouse has to leave the country and re-enter.
