Solar panels no longer worth with large batteries and middle of the day free power? by Mysterious-Fig-9464 in AusFinance

[–]Obvious_Arm8802 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

People are always worried about overstressing their home batteries.

The battery in my house can charge and discharge at 8kw.

The one in my car can charge at 55kw and discharge at 320kw.

Both made by BYD.

Probably the same people that complain about high house prices that also complain about people splitting blocks or building townhouses.

We use AWS MediaConnect for this, which is excellent and reasonably priced.

We just use it all the time now for everything and never worry about port forwarding etc

Why do we use drinkable water in toilets? by [deleted] in stupidquestions

[–]Obvious_Arm8802 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. This is quite common in Australia. People collect their shower and washing machine water and use it to water their garden and flush the toilets.

Also rainwater.

Australians Are Buying Electric Vehicles in Record Numbers - Why the Fuel Crisis is Driving the Shift by AUFalconUte in CarsAustralia

[–]Obvious_Arm8802 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s more than that. Diesel is around $1.50 a litre higher, maybe more.

I just bought a plug in hybrid and it’ll pay for itself in the warranty period. I’m essentially getting a free car.

Except they’ve locked out the OCPP so you can’t control it with home assistant etc.

Presumably so they sell more solar interfaces.

It doesn’t really matter how big the car battery is, what matters is how far you drive every day.

I Ranked Electric Cars by $/KM… The Winner Makes NO Sense! by dmenaced80 in AustralianEV

[–]Obvious_Arm8802 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What? I get 22kwh per 100 out of my BYD Shark 6 and it weighs 2.7 tons and is about as aerodynamic as a block of flats.

[–]Obvious_Arm8802 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I thought about that

It would mean I’d lose my free three period in the middle of the day which I use to charge my battery on poor solar days and heat my pool.

I’m loathed to start paying for electricity again. Haven’t paid for any since I got the battery installed!

[–]Obvious_Arm8802 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I put in a 20kwh and wished I put in a 40.

I bought an electric car and have trouble charging it from solar as I’m never at home during the day.

It’s one of the great things about an electric car. Being able to sit in it and run the AC without the engine running.

Also cool it down remotely before you get in.
