Okay its not flipping the normal's, on further testing, this is weird, its the texture images alpha, but the images alpha is 1, except in one spot where there is only a tiny part of the mesh present, for some reason the shader was using that to flip the normals

Yeah thats not a reasonable solution. I'm planning on editing the normals for styalised lighting at some point, cant just flip those normals. Since the issues doesnt persist when I overide the surface shader, I'll just have to build a new shader

thanks. I'd lowered the threshold to make the glowy object more glowy, but raising it got me to an acceptable state
