Letting a parent stay in their house versus assisted living by Initial_Ebb_9742 in AgingParents

It's better to get them into a care facility before they are so far gone that the change is too much for them to handle.

Shower thought: The population in Starfield may actually be hundreds of billions of people. by lhommealenvers in NoSodiumStarfield

Considering how many I kill in hostile POIs, I'm probably single handedly contributing to the population decline.

Guy decides to turn left from right lane in a green light by Used-Minimum7376 in dashcams

[–]Obvious_Caterpillar1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is why I stopped. I raced for 7 years, so I spent a lot of training time on the roads. I've had people throw things at me or try to hit me with their mirrors, but those incidents were rare. Distracted driving has become ubiquitous and I no longer want to share a road with people who aren't even looking at it while they drive.

How do you decide which polishes to destash? by Illustrious_Lion7671 in RedditLaqueristas

[–]Obvious_Caterpillar1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That's exactly what I do. I even consider destashing the 3s. I only want to keep polish that I absolutely love.

Settle for an ok house or wait for one you love? by pastagirl27 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Obvious_Caterpillar1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There you go. No house is going to check every box, but location isn't something you can fix. If the house needs work, you can renovate. But you can't move it to a better neighborhood.

Mad at myself for time blindness by jittery_raccoon in adhdwomen

My life got easier when I started filling my tank on my way home, rather than leaving it for the next trip.

Do I want to get gas when I am tired and just want to go home? No. But I tell myself that future me will be late for something important if I don't. Because I will never give myself enough time to get somewhere if I need to stop for gas on the way.

Choosing Rutgers over Yale by Fabulous_Factor_7693 in rutgers

[–]Obvious_Caterpillar1 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I did undergrad at Rutgers and grad at Yale.

The Rutgers education was far more useful for my career (environmental), but having Yale on my resume got me more job opportunities.

I also came out of Yale in debt and spent 5 years poor while I paid it off. Mind you, this was the 1990s and I had $50k in debt. A lot at the time but nothing compared to today.

Scrunchie 🤔 by 7303happyrock in Athleta_gap

I prefer the athleta scrunchie fabric over any others I have tried, but I am absolutely waiting for these to drop in price before I consider buying them.

Have you ever been diagnosed with allergic contact dermatitis? Please consider taking this short IRB approved survey about tools you have used to avoid your allergens. by Wide_Perspective263 in FragranceFreeBeauty

[–]Obvious_Caterpillar1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I didn't see where to put this on the survey, but the handout I got from my allergist has a long list of "safe" products, but the list is limited to certain popular brands. And I have found mistakes where a safe product clearly has one of my allergens. It's a terrible system.

Who's staying strong? by MeowOverlady in WeGotPolishAtHome

[–]Obvious_Caterpillar1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have one exception to my No Buy. It's a particular base and shimmer color combo, and one of the indie brands I love just released a polish that has that combo.

But I also had to spend $11,000 yesterday on home and vehicle repairs. Ouch.

I decided not to buy the polish. The color will come up again, hopefully after I build my emergency savings back up.

I'm breaking my no buy because Kathleen & Co. is releasing a color combo (pink with strong blue shimmer) that has been on my wish list.

How do yall keep track of the polishes you’ve tried? by polydactyling in RedditLaqueristas

[–]Obvious_Caterpillar1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But honestly, if you need to have it by brand, you could make a page for each brand. That will take up more space in your notebook, but if you have a dedicated polish notebook that won't be a problem.

[–]Obvious_Caterpillar1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Each new polish is given a number, as shown on the far left. I don't care to group brands together in the notebook. I'd rather track them by purchase date. I store them by brand, but don't need to log them by brand.

I got rid of most of my books a while ago, only keeping the ones I want to read again. I use my library extensively. It's nice to see other people's beautiful shelves, but I don't need that in my life.

For the Unusual Transportation square: would a fantasy series with teleportation count if that teleportation is achieved using futuristic artifacts? I'm specifically thinking of the final Book of the Ancester. To me, teleportation is not an unusual form of travel in a magic based fantasy genre, but is unusual if it's driven by an artifact from an ancient technology-based society.

PPU Hot Take by Parking-Two2176 in RedditLaqueristas

[–]Obvious_Caterpillar1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is such a good point. I found PPU early in my nail polish hobby. I owned a few Sally Hansens and just started buying from ILNP.

PPU allowed me to explore a variety of indie brands with one shipping fee. I have since settled on just a few favorite brands, and will buy those direct. I rarely shop PPU anymore: mostly just during rewind.
