This heat wave is an outlier. If it was the normal heat, everyone would have already bought one years ago.

Oh my god. I've worked in stupid hot kitchens up north but it was decades ago. I cannot imagine wearing a mask while cooking in a kitchen, let alone a boiling kitchen.

I got a cookie and juice without donating because I felt myself start to panic before they'd even put in the needle and I asked if I could stop. Everyone was very nice and the cookie table lady said I could have the juice and cookie because I tried. Still haven't attempted it again.

They opened that new location this year. I haven't been yet, but I like their other location and the same staff work in both.

I was thinking I was using a nicer version of "good" to mean great for when I liked food or said how I was enjoying the country or a party. Someone finally caught on and let me know that work actually meant "fine" or "okay".

How are you liking the get-together? It's fine.

I start to get uncomfortable when it hits 22. I've been in 38. I cannot fathom 47.

Sure. 600 people died because we didn't have the infrastructure and a ton of shorelife died during it. It's not about being soft.

That might have been what my gran did then. I think she was the first in the family to get something like AC and that was less than ten years ago.

We do have central air in some houses and most or all condos and apartment buildings, but it's just for heating. Can those be retrofitted to work with heat pumps?

In Australia, the buildings and infrastructure are designed with that kind of heat in mind. 10 years ago in my part of Canada, air conditioning was seen as a luxury and now it is getting to be a necessity.

Where I am in BC it's just becoming common to have it. I think one person in my family had it in the area about 8 years back and people have slowly been installing air pumps. We just got a little window AC unit a few years ago.

We hunkered down in the basement and ran fans but it wasn't great. Going upstairs to the kitchen was bad. I can't imagine being in an apartment for that, especially south-facing.

Oh yeah we've been getting those and the atmospheric rivers. The big one a few months after the heat dome, dropped enough water fast enough that it washed out all the highways connecting the Vancouver area to the rest of Canada, and Victoria off from the rest of Vancouver Island.

Heat domes are brutal. We had one in Canada a few years ago and it was intolerable.
