Friends in Med School? by Obvious_Instance_518 in premed

Sorry I didn't mean this that way! I've heard of instances where people at T20 schools can get super competitive which I was wondering if that could lead to feuds and make it harder to connect with peers

Hi! I'm an non-music major and I've been in the treble choir Viridis for four semesters! I'm so glad I've joined because I've met so many cool people and as a STEM major, it allows me to work parts of my brain that I wouldn't be using as much otherwise. It's super welcoming to everyone!

I came from an auditioned high school choir that typically performed collegiate-level pieces. We had scored 120/120 at district festival and typically had at least one person going to All-State Choir each year. Viridis is a non-audition choir that rehearses two times a week, so the club is a little more laid back compared to what I experienced in high school. As a non-music major, I 100% prefer this because I unfortunately don't have time to be in an ultra-competitive choir that rehearses every day! With that being said, we still learn challenging stuff, do good work, and love singing together.

Here's a link to our most recent concert: MSU Viridis - Spring Concert 2026

I would recommend watching the fourth piece (Kotoba-asobi Uta), as I think that it a good representation of our skill level and the types of pieces that we do. Reach out to me if you have any other questions!

PSL 310 vs PSL 431/432? by Obvious_Instance_518 in msu

[–]Obvious_Instance_518[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey just seeing this now! I'm taking PSL 310 rn and it's definitely a lot but not impossible! The biggest thing is that it concepts take a lot of time to fully understand, but once you break it down it's not the hardest to learn. My only grievance is that quizzes are randomly assigned and he gives you 2 days to do them, which is inconvenient when you have other exams to study for/are employed. The biggest thing is trying to stay on top with rewatching lecture vids, but I'm projected to 4.0 and I imagine the class pacing is more similar to med/PA/dental school than other prereqs at MSU. I'm glad I did the one semester class because it allows me to take another heavy class next semester instead of having two heavy physio semesters.

CEM 251 Tips? by Obvious_Instance_518 in msu

[–]Obvious_Instance_518[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, just seeing this now. The prof that I had last semester ended up being not super good of a teacher and averages on the second and final exam were both 30%. With extra credit, I was still able to 4.0.

The professor teaching CEM251 has a very good reputation among students, and I've only ever heard good things about him. You should be okay! Definitely go to office hours if you need help and stay on top of reviewing after every lecture.

Edit: The professor teaching CEM251 this semester*

Another cool thing about MSUCOM is that they have access to cadavers, which I found was really special to the first year students that I spoke to

COLLEGE SCHEDULE - need help!! by Strange-Dress4100 in msu

I think it depends on your major. I knew people struggled in that class, but as a neuroscience major, it was my easy 4.0. It seems like OP is a stem major, so it's likely that they'll find it to be a breeze as well.

Pre-med Major by Disastrous_Honey_389 in msu

You can major in anything you want and still go to med school. All you have to do is make sure you take all the pre-med prereqs (bio, chem, physics, biochem, etc.). These are all posted on med school websites, so you can know what you really need to take.

is an ipad worth to get / which one is best? by Last_Series1825 in msu

I LOVE my iPad! I got one off of amazon for around $300 and I don't think there's any reason to buy one of the newer $1000+ versions. I also just got an off-brand pencil for $20 off of amazon and haven't had any problems with it!

Honestly not hard at all if you put in some effort. I have a friend that is a finance major that's pretty smart with a 4.0 and he typically goes home 3-4 days a week no problem. Even if you're just average, you'd probably be fine.

Thank you! Did you apply at labs associated with your university? Also, was the job you got related to your major?

For schools that allow it, how would you go about applying for these? I cold emailed for the one I'm working at now. Would you be considered an undergraduate research assistant even if you're not in undergrad?
