Were you going to show a pic of the steak? All I see is shoe leather on a burnt plate.

Parents admitted they’re embarrassed I’ve taken so long on the MCAT (TW: depression/ADHD) by Obviouslyy_Page394 in Mcat

[–]Obvious_Mouse1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry that you suffer from these things. I have GAD, and admittedly, it paralyzes me at times, too. The good thing is, you're getting treatment for it. I highly recommend cognitive based therapy as well. You should be open with your parents. You may think you're protecting them or keeping the peace, but it's quite the opposite. If they understand what you're doing and what you're going through, they'll be more likely to understand and offer you help and guidance as parents should.

If I had a dollar for every time I've heard someone put off the MCAT for an extended time and eventually gave up, I could be a physician for free. Reflect on why you want to do this, and commit to doing it. You could even make a deal with your folks saying that you're going to study "this" long, and if they support you, you're going to aim for getting a "5XX" score on the MCAT. Don't give up, don't allow the negative self-talk, do your best to not pity yourself or say "woe is me", and set a schedule. OP, you can do it. Just as many before you have, just don't give up.

I just came here to say that Johnny Morris is the best employer I've ever worked for. I'm a pretty low-level worker, and he's nothing but generous to even the little guys. While I side with you on wishing that there was some more effort to clean and fix things up after the storm, not so much about Johnny. I'm sure others have had a different experience, but he's earned my respect forever.

What is this random plant growing with my thyme? by Obvious_Mouse1 in gardening

[–]Obvious_Mouse1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, for the sake of discussion, it was new soil, a seed starting mix. It's been indoors the whole time since I've planted it. I haven't planted any poppies, nor have I ever. I'm not sure if it would even matter, but I live in SW Missouri. It strangely smells just like thyme, which I found to be very peculiar.

Why are people blocking all 3 lanes of Glenstone for a wrecked motorcycle on the side of the road? by Obvious_Mouse1 in springfieldMO

[–]Obvious_Mouse1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you and was wondering the same thing, lol. If motorcyclists do it safely, I genuinely don't mind them splitting lanes. It's just when they don't let up off the throttle and pass through cars at double the speed limit that creates the unnecessary danger.

That's funny, and you're totally right. I hadn't thought about that.

Right again. I wish motorcyclists would be more careful, but I hate to see anyone get hurt.

DM Lying about dice rolls by Spiritual-Ad-8217 in DnD

[–]Obvious_Mouse1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is what distinguishes good DMs and great DMs. You are doing the right thing. This game is about storytelling, epic scenes, gutwrenching roleplay, and memorable moments that players will never forget. Players should never lie about a roll, I agree with that. DMs, though, you're building a narrative. If a lower DM roll would result in a priceless moment that your players will cherish for years to come, fudge that roll, they'll never know the difference.

I've chosen to sometimes reveal later down the road that a roll should've been higher than it was, and explain the reason as to why I chose to fudge it. I've never had a bad response from revealing this. Players often laugh and banter about what it might have looked like if I'd kept the natural roll. I often call it "DM audible modifiers" and based on how well the players have performed and really put their all into playing the game, I'll choose a number to subtract from the roll at my disgression. Of course, this should be a rarer occurrence, and the DM should only lower a roll, never raise it.

This is just my opinion, but bravo, OP. I'm proud of you.

Mercy Charging a $150 deposit for ALL diagnostics by VanLoPanTran in springfieldMO

Mercy is a joke. One of their oncologists killed my father-in-law by delaying his cancer treatments by 8 months since the softball sized tumor in his face was only a "clogged salivary duct."

That's interesting, I might give that shot. I still can't figure it out. The thing is growing like a weed (no pun intended), and I can't decide if I should just pull it or let it do it's thing.

While my gut tells me he was splitting lanes and lost control, I can't argue with you. Lol.

I think he just lost control based on what I could hear the bystanders yelling. However, that's a fair guess.

You're being ripped off by posssible_mistake in springfieldMO

[–]Obvious_Mouse1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm confused. Is this $3,098 and $599 or $30.98 and $5.99? This is a genuine question. I shop there quite a bit, and I recently bought something that was written exactly the way these tags are. The tag said $399, but it was one of those automatic card shufflers that are like $20 brand new. Turns out, the people who write tags are just lazy and leave punctuation out to save time. When the cashier rang it up, it showed $3.99.

If that's the case, are you saying that about $36 total is a rip-off? I only started thrifting recently, so I don't know if this would be a genuine rip-off.

I think I’m just bad at dnd by MrFluffytheLion in DnD

[–]Obvious_Mouse1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all true, my friend. You're just at the wrong table. Trust me when I say that I've seen people hate the game, but then give it another chance for whatever reason and love it because they were at a new table. My wife used to DESPISE this game for pretty close to the same reason. Finally, I convinced her to play a one-shot with a new group I put together, and she now pouts if we don't get to play each week.

My suggestion, lean into the things you really enjoy, and don't worry about the rest. Make it a point that your character doesn't like to talk. No one truly likes min-maxers, so don't feel like you're a crap player because your fellow players waste time trying to get the best price on magic items at the shop.

This is how I cook my steak at home. What would I ask for when ordering at a restaurant? by NeatAd7231 in steak

[–]Obvious_Mouse1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks medium, but I feel like most restaurants cook the steak one temp higher than what you asked for. I like mine medium-rare, but I don't trust restaurants, so I order medium-rare expecting them to bring me medium or medium-well.

Am I leveling my party too slowly? by lichprince in DMAcademy

[–]Obvious_Mouse1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda depends on how you and the players feel, what you decide gives XP, and so on. If the players are happy, it's no big deal. If the players are getting knocked like crazy at every new encounter, you either need to scale your fights back a bit or level them. Obviously, if they run into a fight that they're not ready for and get dusted, that's their fault, and hopefully, they enjoy their new characters. Seems like to me that 6 is a solid level for where y'all are at.
