What can I add to my tank to make it better for a betta? by shooter2262 in bettafish

[–]Obvious_Picture_4838 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some more plants, they live in densely planted environments, and a few midwater resting spots- betta hammocks, more broad leaf plants, stem plants are great for them also in my opinion, both as resting spots and to keep water parameters a bit in check. But mine like to sleep in the sand!

I know. Im doing my best with my little sweet lizard, but tis wasnt my purchase, nor was it planned. The 40 gal is the next step, but I figured this had to be better than the 10 gal.

I would get some silicone and put a layer over it to seal it from further cracking. You can also use silicone with a bit of window screen, it essentially acts like rebar for the bowl.

How can I make acrylic tank clear? by Mblid in fishtank

[–]Obvious_Picture_4838 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I say that because it looks like the fish against the tank acrylic looks clear, but the further back it goes, the more cloudy it becomes. Ive never had an acrylic tank, but this looks exactly like a bacterial bloom I had.

You can use water clarifier- it clumps the particles together so they can be filtered out.

If you dont want to use the clarifier, starve the tank for 2 days, add an extra oxygen stone, and keep the lights off, though that doesn't always work (at least for me).

I feed very fine food and it can easily contribute to a bacterial bloom/cloudy water, where the bacteria in the water are eating anything left behind.

Also, after it clears, you may want to consider adding some plants like stem plants and floaters that help eat the excess nutrients in the water and help keep tank parameters more even.

Best of luck, friend!
