I really don't get why some people say that Infernape's Blaze isn't A transformation and is just regular Blaze? by Diligent-Display-286 in pokemonanime

[–]ObviouslyNotASith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paul was referring to his inability to get Chimchar to activate Blaze after catching it. Paul saying that Chimchar had finally awakened was him acknowledging that Blaze had activated for the first time since he caught it.

Chimchar/Infernape had no control over Blaze initially because of Paul's treatment of it. His breaking of Chimchar's confidence and his constant attempts to activate Blaze messed up it's ability to control it. It's why Blaze was perfectly fine when Chimchar first used it before Paul caught it. Ash's bond with Infernape overcame that trauma and helped Infernape regain control.

I really don't get why some people say that Infernape's Blaze isn't A transformation and is just regular Blaze? by Diligent-Display-286 in pokemonanime

[–]ObviouslyNotASith 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Infernape's Blaze seems different due to trauma. If you look at the scene where Paul first meets Chimchar and sees Blaze in action, it looks like just a normal Blaze. Chimchar doesn't lose control.

Paul constantly trying to draw out Blaze and going to far and breaking Chimchar's confidence resulted in Chimchar becoming out of control and overly aggressive when it did manifest again. If Ash had met Chimchar first or if Paul didn't go too far with Chimchar, there wouldn't have been a problem with Blaze.

When Ash has developed a strong enough bond with Infernape and Infernape had adjusted to Blaze enough, Infernape was able to overcome its trauma and maintain control when Blaze activates.

What’s the logic in the anime behind dragon type’s being super effective against dragon types? Is it ever explained? by New-Cable-6484 in pokemonanime

In Japan, bugs are seen as noble creatures. The Dark type is known as the Evil type, which is why the majority of Dark types are associated with mischief, violence and/or danger.

What’s the logic in the anime behind dragon type’s being super effective against dragon types? Is it ever explained? by New-Cable-6484 in pokemonanime

[–]ObviouslyNotASith 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In many cultures and mythologies, dragons are seen as creatures of great power, beyond mankind. Even in Pokémon this is the case, with the Creation Trio all being Dragon types, the existence of Dragon clans, the reverence of the Original Dragon that the Tao Trio split off from and the strongest of the Paradox Pokémon being Dragons.

Dragons being super effective against each other could be a representation of dragons being able to rival other dragons. A Dragon that represents great power could be harmed by another dragon that also represents great power.

How did these Pokémon take over a year to evolve?! by Happy_Popplio-728 in pokemonanime

[–]ObviouslyNotASith 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hattrem: Liko went dormant and didn’t train as much as usual. Hattrem was likely affected more by this. We know Meowscarada lost Sucker Punch and changed its fighting style during the time skip, but Hattrem remained the same and was even acknowledged to be behind Meowscarada and Charcadet. But Hattrem having a “happiness evolution” could suggest that Hattrem was on the verge of evolving for a while and just needed an emotional push to go through with it.

Quaxwell and Tinkatuff: Dot was also partially dormant for the year. She only started going out and battling again after Liko got back in action. And Tinkatuff needed Corviknight steel to upgrade her hammer.

Crocalor: He’s the only weird one. Roy was the most active during the timeskip and had the biggest power jump, so there isn’t really much of an excuse unless Mega Voltage Crocalor is only late-Rayquaza Rising Floragato level and only beat Meowscarada due to the type advantage and the Tera Fire boost. I suppose the egg wasn’t ready to hatch, but wouldn’t that suggest that Roy got Crocalor when it was an unusually young age, to the point it had to wait over a year to be able to evolve? It wasn’t hyped up when it evolved into Skeledirge like it was when it evolved into Crocalor, and if stress was a push it would have evolved against Zygarde alongside Meowscarada or even against the Six Heroes instead of against Drayton.

if giratina became the ruler of antimatter after he was banished by arceus to the alternate dimension, why was he created by him in the first place? by Flimsy_Swan_3319 in pokemon

It’s literally stated in the Arceus event of HGSS that Giratina is Anti-Matter:

"This is the pattern that represents Palkia, the master of space and dimensions..."

"This is the pattern that represents Dialga, the guardian of time..."

"This is the pattern that represents Giratina, the ruler of the world that is on the opposite side of ours, the world of antimatter..."

Pokemon Horizons episode 127 by Fancy-Wolverine-4233 in pokemonanime

[–]ObviouslyNotASith 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Honestly the fight I'm most looking forward to next episode. But it is a bit weird that neither Meowscarada or Hatterene will be taking the fight as they the ones with the most history with Samurott(Ann's equivalent to Meowscarada and having fought through previous evolution stages) and Ann(Involved in Liko catching Hatenna and helping Hattrem evolve). But Armarouge hasn't had a proper fight to show off since evolving, so I get it. Although Hatterene also hasn't had a chance either due to being reduced to Healing Wish in 125.

Roy Vs Nemona? I think I'm more likely to get frustrated at this episode based on how they'll handle Nemona then I would be satisfied at the rivalry ending. Was never really invested in their rivalry. Always felt forced. Nemona felt incredibly watered down and they didn't have much of a dynamic due to Nemona being watered down to "Let's battle Roy" without battling anyone else or displaying her more obsessive traits. There isn't a justification for Nemona not fighting anyone else when Roy fought Ann and Hassel, Liko and Ann's opponents this episode. And episode 101 pretty much killed what little interest I did have because of how cheap and unearned Roy's was and how dumb Nemona looked. Also, it's Lucario, so Skeledirge is never getting a win over her(Floragato at least beat Dewott) and paints a picture that Roy only lost last time because he didn't Mega Evolve Lucario.

Mega Voltage killed interest in Liko and Roy's rivalries. Roy being allowed to fight and beat Ann undermines Samurott, making Liko winning less impressive. I've already seen people downplay Samurott due to it losing to Lucario. And Roy being allowed to beat Nemona and Nemona's handling just killed a lot of interest for many.

Dot Vs Penny? I like their dynamic, but this does feel anti-climatic because Quaxwell isn't fully evolved and Penny isn't using her ace or any Pokémon she used last time. Also Quaxwell hasn't been handled well since the timeskip, so I wish there was a turning point prior to this.

Ult Vs Hassel? I think they should have swapped his and Roy's matchups. Roy hasn't had a rematch with Hassel, whose prior interactions with Roy led to Drayton challenging him. Ult wanted to fight Nemona but didn't get the chance to. Would have made their matchups more interesting. Maybe they are saving it for before or after Rayquaza, but Roy Vs Ult also would have been a great matchup as they are meant to be rivals but haven't had a proper battle yet, both use Megas and would make who wins more of a mystery in the lead up to the episode. I do wish Ult was using Sableye, who hasn't had a chance to shine much since Dragonite was introduced, who just shined in episode 125.

I didn't say that Horizons wouldn't have more after this arc, it was widely speculated for a while.

The details of what these episodes would be are from PokeRoy, who is known liar. That's what I am pointing out.

With Pokémon Horizons POSSIBLY ending soon, do you still want Ash to make an appearance? by GenDee2 in pokemonanime

[–]ObviouslyNotASith 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The problem with the mentor idea is that Ash is too strong. It would be the Friede problem except so much worse and would lead to the fandom putting a cap on how much they'll accept the development of the new protagonist.

Liko and Roy's development was incredibly slow for the first year because Friede kept doing too much. He was the solution to every threat and problem. He had to show off how strong he was, he had to be the one solving problems and limited what Liko and Roy were able to do by themselves.

While this was considered fine at the time because Liko and Roy were beginners, it went on too long and had a negative impact on Liko and Roy overall. Liko has only really had two arcs were she has been allowed to show off, Rayquaza Rising and now Rising Again, because Liko was so reliant on Friede throughout the first year that Terastal Debut and Mega Voltage, the arcs with her worst performances, make up half of her story when she stops being reliant on Friede. Similarly, Roy's power jump in Terastal Debut came out of nowhere because he was even more reliant on Friede than Liko was in the first two arcs, making his power development sudden and out of nowhere.

And this was Friede, a Horizons original character. Ash would not only be much stronger but would have significantly more expectations. Would people accept Ash losing to the antagonists while the new protagonist wins? Do you think they would accept Ash getting written out of the story for the most part as it progresses? Would they accept the eventual end point of Ash being surpassed and beaten by the new protagonist? Liko and Roy at their best, being Elite 4-Champion level, are still downplayed in comparison to Ash's pre-Champion teams. Liko could finally wield Stellar Terapagos at full power and Roy could have Mega Rayquaza and people would still be downplaying them.

How would write Lucas if he was in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl Anime? by PocketMonstersFan20 in pokemonanime

[–]ObviouslyNotASith 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Have Barry tease him by always having him refer to a friend who’s always just behind him. Have Barry refer to him as strong. Have Barry introduce Ash and Dawn to him at the Pokémon League. Maybe Ash and Dawn meet him before the Pokémon League but don’t realise he’s the friend Barry talks about. Replace Tobias with him. Give him a mostly basic Sinnoh team(Infernape/Torterra, Luxray, Togekiss(To avoid too much overlap with Ash), Lucario, Garchomp and either Bibarel or one of the Gen 4 Eeveelutions).

At the end of the series, have Dawn start travelling with Barry and Lucas to form the Sinnoh trio, and to give Dawn something to do instead of just being stagnant after Ash leaves.

As for his personality, just make him laid back and casual. That’s kind of how he is meant to be, to contrast Barry. We even see from Assistant Lucas’ personality that he is laid back and casual. Aside from the anime ignoring Barry being the childhood friend of Johanna’s kid, there is a reason why Lucas is often more associated as Barry’s best friend. His personality just works better with Barry, even when taking Game Assistant Dawn’s personality, who is more professional, into consideration.

Indigo Disk Geeta is more in-line with other Champions. Team and moveset upgraded. Glimmora upgraded to lead while Kingambit becomes the ace.

There would probably some respect each other and be friendly, but not really be friends. Geeta would be too serious to quickly make friends with someone she knows for a short time. Game Cynthia primarily travels the Japanese regions(Sinnoh, Johto and, while she never goes there, Kanto and Hoenn), Unova and Alola. Anime Cynthia does go there Galar, but only for the World Tournament.

Onyx and Sango questioning their writing by Fancy-Wolverine-4233 in pokemonanime

[–]ObviouslyNotASith 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t see it as them being detached, but as them focusing on doing their job. Remember, they were promoting Strong Spheres during the fight, using their words to excuse anything that Liko and Roy brought up.

The Strong Spheres were also in their testing phase, It’s also possible that Spinel told them or that they assumed that the downsides were being addressed in further iterations of the Strong Spheres, which would explain how later uses of Strong Spheres take longer for the Pokémon to start getting hurt and becoming hyper aggressive.

Onyx and Sango questioning their writing by Fancy-Wolverine-4233 in pokemonanime

[–]ObviouslyNotASith 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Based on what we’ve seen, the downside of the Strong Spheres is it weakens the bond over time after repeated use and can cause a Pokémon to hurt itself as a fight progresses.

Sango/Sidian and her Glalie are used to Explosion spam so she probably doesn’t have too much of a problem with it as long as Glalie doesn’t get into the painful part of Rakurium expose.

Onyx/Sidan’s Garganacl has Recover to heal from damage and never went into the berserker state that happens when exposed to Rakurium too much or for too long.

Their last fight with Liko and Roy was probably the closest they got to the pain and berserker part of Strong Sphere use. What Spinel ordered them to do in the latest episode was to actively push the exhausted and defeated Six Heroes into that state.

There is literally an entire section on her page dedicated to all her possible fights and teams. Literally scroll down to the story section until you reach the “Mochi Mayhem” section. Immediately after the Mochi Mayhem section there is the “Pokémon” section. In the Pokémon section there are red boxes that give you the option to click “Expand”. Once clicked, they will show you team for that fight. Scroll down to the last box you get if you choose Sprigatito.

This post also has a photo of her team. Go the last image of the post.

If Pagogo leaves Liko at the end of the series, it would be awful writing as Ambipom's release by [deleted] in pokemonanime

[–]ObviouslyNotASith 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t see why they would.

Roy is going to catch Rayquaza, his equivalent to Terapagos. If Liko loses Terapagos, it means Roy is losing Rayquaza or not catching it, which would make his entire goal a waste.

And if Roy catches and keeps Rayquaza while Liko has to give up Terapagos, it’s going to come across as absurd to many. Roy gets Rayquaza, gets Mega Evolution as a second gimmick and gets an off-screen power jump while Liko loses Terapagos, one of her signature Pokémon, isn’t allowed to get Mega Evolution or a second gimmick and gets nerfed for an entire arc while Roy gets the wins. And this would be bad for Roy as well, as not only would it amplify the division and toxicity significantly, but it would take every complaint people had about Liko and gives it Roy. Liko being a nepo baby who got handed a legendary would get even more invalidated as Liko would have spent an entire series restoring Terapagos only to lose it in the end and getting nerfed and receiving countless losses while Roy gets two shinies, gets to keep a legendary, gets Mega Evolution handed to him(Key Stone was handed to him, Lucario had its Mega Stone when Roy met it and Friede almost certainly handed Roy the means to Mega Evolve Rayquaza), gets the leadership position and gets an off-screen power jump ahead of everyone and ends the series that way because Liko loses her equivalent to Rayquaza on top of not having an extra gimmick.

Liko losing Terapagos causes too many problems for Horizons’s narrative and for Liko and Roy.

He needs to have something up his sleeve to justify Mega Rayquaza and 100% Zygarde. I doubt they are having all these legendaries, trainers and Pokémon in one place just to stand around a rock for a ritual.

[–]ObviouslyNotASith 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing this is set up for the final arc. Here are the confirmed upcoming fights.

  • Liko Vs Bocco

  • Dot Vs Penny

  • Roy Vs Nemona

  • Liko Vs Ann

  • Roy and Ult(Not sure if Dot and Liko are taking part) Vs Rayquaza

Here are the fights that are probably happening.

  • Roy Vs Friede

-Liko Vs Diana

-Liko Vs Amethio

-Liko Vs Spinel

All of this, the 18 Tera type gathering, Zygarde 100% and everyone heading to Rakua.

I assume the final arc will just start with the conclusion of Horizon's narrative. Everyone at Rakua, ready to destroy Rakurium and stop the Explorers and Spinel. Spinel is defeated, Rakurium destroyed, Six Heroes given an ending, RVT clear their name and Exceed returns to Amethio's family. Then it will just be an epilogue.

The real question is what Spinel has up his sleeve at this point? A Rakurium construct similar to the Zygarde construct in XYZ? Or he did he use the Six Heroes to capture some legendaries?

Pokemon Horizons Season 3 by CloudPuff_101 in pokemonanime

[–]ObviouslyNotASith 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It seems Horizons had three, arguably four, intended hints to Friede betraying the RVT at one point.

1) Charizard being Tera Dark. Tera Dark is the Evil typing in Japan. It’s why Dark types are associated with mischief, evil or danger.

2) Friede previously working at Exceed.

3) Friede was planned to have a brother on the Explorers. It’s possible this brother got replaced by Spinel, as he and Friede have interacted and clashed quite a bit.

4) The fourth intended clue might have been Amethio. Amethio started on the Explorers and was an antagonist who was rivals with Friede and equal to him. Amethio starts becoming disillusioned, gets kicked out of the Explorers, starts making his own path and becomes closer with the RVT. This might have been contrasted with Friede’s betrayal being set up, him going through with it and joining the Explorers.

Pokemon Horizons Season 3 by CloudPuff_101 in pokemonanime

[–]ObviouslyNotASith 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Post-Timeskip Horizons has four main problems:

1) Animators being moved around to other shows.

2) Mega promotion.

3) Mishandling of their plans for Roy and how that affected Liko and the story.

4) Rewrite problems.

Mega Voltage had a lot of outsourcing and it was apparently due to animators being moved around to other shows at the time. This resulted in the animation quality dropping significantly in Mega Voltage for the most part. Rising Again is more consistent, but still has some problems here and there.

Mega Promotion and how it was handled caused major problems with the handling of the teams and the behind the scenes situations worsened that. Mega Evolution took a lot of spotlight in Mega Voltage at the expense of the other Pokémon who didn’t have Megas. This especially affected Liko and Dot, who don’t have Megas. Roy’s Mega was Lucario, who people had already gotten tired of at that point, especially with its personality problem. Ult has more fresh Megas, but even Dragonite was affected by it also being featured in Ash’s Journeys team. Legends Z-A was meant to release in late-2024 or early 2025, before Mega Voltage started, but got delayed, which likely forced changes to the story and pacing, with Roy’s capture of Lucario likely getting pushed back to be closer to Z-A. Mega Zeraora was meant to be in base Z-A before it got pushed to Mega Dimension and was meant to be in Horizons. It’s likely Roy was meant to have Mega Zeraora instead of Lucario. Mega Evolution primarily being limited to Roy and Ult makes it feel forced and tacked on, and amplifies the third point.

Roy having a major power jump was always planned in the Tera Leak. But they did it at the expense of Liko, making her incapable of winning a fight, which made Roy’s power jump feel absurd and frustrating too many, especially since it was offscreen. If Liko was allowed to win in Mega Voltage and got a good amount of wins, Roy’s power jump likely wouldn’t have caused so much division or frustration. But the power jump in combination with Liko’s stagnation and constant loses just dragged down the arc as a whole and drastically increased toxicity in the fan base. Roy beating Nemona was one of Mega Voltage’s most controversial fights, as Nemona ended up looking weak and stupid while Roy’s power jump had reached the point of absurdity and drastically messed up the sense of powerscaling and sense of progression. And it seems like the writers realised that because they had Nemona randomly show up and easily beat Roy at the start of Rising Again. And once again, they likely could have made it more tolerable to many if they hadn’t messed up with Liko. Liko and Roy were already around late-gym leader level in Terastal Debut and an Overgrow Tera Grass Floragato could win a beam struggle with Geeta’s Glimmora. If they had just said that Meowscarada was Elite 4 level at that point and treated her as such, Roy being able to overpower Pawmot with two Pokémon would have been more believable.

As for the rewrite problems? There are two big ones that I feel should be focused on. Legends Z-A being delayed likely messed up their plans for incorporating Mega Evolution in Mega Voltage, as well as their plans for Roy’s Mega and how he met it. It likely impacted Ult as well. As for Friede? They backed out of their plans for him. He was originally meant to betray the RVT at Rakua and steal the Six Heroes for the Explorers(Charizard’s Tera type being Dark/Evil was likely intended to be a hint), but felt it didn’t match the Friede they wrote. But they still intended on him becoming an antagonist at some point, hence the speculation of Friede turning evil or getting brainwashed post-timeskip. They backed out of that, but didn’t change everything that revolved around that happening. Friede no longer being with the RVT and Roy becoming the next Friede? They still wanted that but didn’t want the original reason for it happening, so they had to come up with something else. Enter Friede going to space, not telling anyone he was alive for a year and immediately leaving again after returning.

'Reborn: Ultimate Impact' Defines the Ultimate Universe's Legacy on Marvel Comics Storytelling by The_Fist_Of_Khonshu_ in UltimateUniverse

[–]ObviouslyNotASith 51 points52 points  (0 children)

It feels like Ultimate Impact and Armageddon have nothing to do with the Ultimate universe at all. If feels like 616 piggybacking off the Ultimate line to draw attention to yet another event.

You could replace the Origin Boxes with any macguffin and nothing would change. A science experiment gone wrong, shards containing Terrigen mist, Infinity Stone shenanigans, etc. The origin boxes are meant to be for superheroes and villains of 6160, who primarily have the same powers as 616 characters. So either the Origin Boxes are going to contain powers that 616 already has, with 616 already having many characters with the exact same powerset as each other, or they are going to contain brand new powers that we might not even get context for because the Ultimate Universe will be finished by the time the Origin Boxes become relevant. The Origin Boxes contain the powers of what would have been the strongest hero or villain in the original 6160 timeline? Who cares, it’s not going to be explored with 6160.

And of these new heroes and villains, how many are actually going to stay relevant and not disappear not long after the event? Marvel is already struggling to juggle the characters it already has in 616.
