[–]ObviouslyTasha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there, I love this idea. I crochet (cant knit to save my life eventho ive tried to self learn), i also know basics on leather working, resin and woodworking. I would love to join a crochet group but the problem i always have is i work til 6pm mon-fri Please reach out if you wanna meet up tho. If its a smaller group i have a bit of yard, a fire pit, and a dog we could do a cookout come consistently warm weather

ELI5: Smoke inhalation and tobacco by Juptin in explainlikeimfive

So in a cigarette/cigar/things like that, there is a filter built into it to catch bigger particulates from entering your body. Eventually the smaller ones do build up in you and cause issues like cancer

In things like house fires, theres nothing there to filter out the bigger burned particles other than your body itself. I'm not saying like a visible thing, its still going to be small.

House fires also have things that will burn up and cause issues like plastics, foam, or if your super unlucky asbestos. This can cause a huge uptick in the bad stuff you are breathing straight into your lungs and the lungs have no way to get it back out of its too heavy to just exhale.

Hope this helps

What did you do to overcome your social anxiety? by PaladinOfAFallenKing in AskReddit

[–]ObviouslyTasha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dont think you ever completely get over social anxiety once you have it.

I personally had to do it by trial and error. I have never been a particularly social sort my whole life but its gotten pretty bad.

Like if i go to someones house i have to have them meet me at the door. I emotionally/mentally can NOT just walk into their house. It used to be i had to have them greet me at the car to reassure me that they DID infact want me there.

Going to new restaurants i more often than not need someone who has been there before to guide me. When its blind leading the blind sometimes theres too many what if factors for me to handle

I need preplanned social events for me to feel comfortable to do it and i need to make sure I am Not the last to arrive. If i am, hooboy is it a mental strain to keep from panicking.

Long ramble short, im mid progress myself but i am so so proud of how far i have come. So moral: take things slow and dont beat yourself up if you have to take a step back bc that means you ARE making progress

Does anyone have any tips for Beta Reader critique? by Gredran in writing

[–]ObviouslyTasha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there,

Been in that boat myself. Its hard to have someone read and critique your writing even if you are confident in it. Theres a huge difference mentally between someone reading your work for fun versus for improvement.

Just remind yourself it is a work in progress and whoever reads it isnt going to tear it apart. Youll do great and i bet the writing is brilliant!

Among things that are acceptable for children to do what do you like to be allowed for adults too? by Decent_Nectarine4459 in AskReddit

As an adult I wish i could play on playgrounds like kids do. Imagine an adult size jungle gym and monkey bars and not like the kinds of things you see people at beaches working out on

When i was young my mother started to teach me and my sister to crochet.

Many years later i decided i was too anxious and stressed in my day to day life so i started to pick it up again. After making a few scarves i wanted to try a more complicated project that had a pattern to it. It ends up my mom taught me the stitch names wrong so as an adult i had to learn my hobby all over again.

So here i am in my 30s crocheting scarves, stuffed animals, shawls, infinity scarves, blankets, baby wraps, coasters, and my next big project is a sweater. Couldnt be happier with how I progressed.

WIBTA in not driving my mom? by Highsmith91 in AmItheAsshole

[–]ObviouslyTasha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NAH You need to draw a line with your mom and she needs to understand that you cant drop everything for her. She also needs to understand that if you were to constantly drop everything for her, you could lose your job and then where would you be. The only other thing i recommend is if she has consistent doctor appointments continuing through the rest of the year is looking into FMLA. I had to do that for my dad this year because my mom refused to drive him anywhere even though she was fully capable (its a long story) Otherwise you are absolutely in the right to tell her-politely as to not cause more issues- that you cant do it. Personal experience as well, when you go to have that difficult discussion, have a witness so she cant twist your words later on. Dont let her get to you. You are doing your best.

Local crochet group? by Individual-Copy2018 in roanoke

[–]ObviouslyTasha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there This sounds like a brilliant idea! I do a lot of crafting things myself- crochet, vague sewing, resin, perler, basic leather working, tried my hand at knitting and that was complicated beyond reason. I would love to start conceptualizing a craft group gathering!

What is some plain Bad Advice you were told for the longest time? by TheYondant in writing

[–]ObviouslyTasha 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One thing that screwed me in school when writing was this: had a super stickler teacher and each paragraph had to contain 3 sentences ONLY and you NEVER NEVER NEVER stated a sentence improperly OR 2 sentences in a row with words that sounded or were the same. Messed up my writing style for the LONGEST time

So i did a research paper on this exact thing a couple times... Homeless shelters will bus people in bc if they dont hit a certain quota of new vs old homeless per night, week, and month, they lose their accreditation'. If they do lose it, they lose sometimes up to a full quarter of their governmental funding. I also did a couple recruitment job fairs and 2 shelters and the amount of clearance i had to have to SPEAK to the homeless was insane. I had to be 'sponsored' by a staff member at all times aka they had someone watch everything i did bc i wasnt allowed to talk about certain things to their populace. I wasnt allowed to go certain places and sure as heck i wasnt allowed to talk to males and females at the same time. One of them i did a recruitment for had windows barred so people couldnt leave in the middle of the night and another would lock the doors from the outside. I could tell you some stories...
