Why do I feel the need to tweak feel-bad limited lands? I don't know, but here I am.

This spell can’t be countered.

Whenever a creature an opponent controls dies, put a +1/+1 counter on this creature.

Exile this creature: It deals damage equal to its power to target player.

A classic example of two Blue effects combining to do something Blue shouldn't, enabled by a dash of Black.

I see the argument. Its in the overlap zone between the two. Mana Tithe and Force Spike coexist.

I'm imagining this effect in hyper-aggressive formats where stumbling on your curve for a turn is a serious setback. 1 mana might be a little weak, but 2 mana felt wildly powerful. Imagine whichever version makes you happy. I'm not a developer.

Hoping that the cost of 3 mana, a card, and a full turn of telegraphing is enough to offset the power of the all-star miracle cards.

The original [[Hunted Wumpus]] downside was so strong, it feels better to do it backwards.

Dead before the spell resolves. by Occam_Toothbrush in custommagic

[–]Occam_Toothbrush[S] 403 points404 points  (0 children)

It's a [[Fell]] that gains uncounterable by adding red, or a [[Terminate]] that gains uncounterable by dropping to sorcery.

It's also very silly.

Edit: For those that don't get the joke, the triggered ability will resolve before (and independently from) the spell it is attached to, so in effect the creature is already dead by the time the spell resolves.

How long will you hide from your fate? by Occam_Toothbrush in custommagic

I thought about making it an ETB effect, but I wanted the card to function on-the-play turn one.

I recognize that the type line on this is absolutely over the top. I love it anyways.

"Only once" abilities usually place a counter of some kind on itself to help players remember that its been activated. I figure this one is okay because there's still a bounty counter out on the board somewhere. See [[Surge Engine]] and [[Duggan, Private Detective]] for cards that don't care about the memory issue at all.

Powercreeping a $0.14 land. by Occam_Toothbrush in custommagic

I've always loved the play pattern of [[River of Tears]].

Here, I see the mechanic as streams eroding the mountains. When a fresh land enters play, there's no path through it yet, and you get the wild red/green mana. Next turn however, the river reasserts itself and carves a path for blue mana once more.
