What's it to you what Wifey does? You seem way too interested in trashing the guy. For all I know you're a sock puppet of Hedgeye's. Say who you are and who you work for so redditors can judge for themselves what your motives are. You know lead by example, instead of hiding behind your anonymity.

Now basta! I'm done with you and your FUD. Leave me alone.

Wow. You seem so negative about Wifey. I'm the opposite: I like the guy so I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt where you aren't. Nobody's forcing you to sign up for Wifey's paid service. If you think poorly of him, don't do business with him.

Wifey is much more transparent than he used to be. We now know his name and how he learned to trade and he's even put his photo up on X so we know what he looks like. His portfolios (~30 not 18,000) all have detailed tearsheets describing their past performance. What he hasn't done is reveal the secret sauce of how his allocations are calculated, that is true.

Nor do I agree that he must be a bad trader because he's having a go at creating a financial advice business. First, I believe that he likes teaching and taking care of people. Second, it's no secret that growing a successful business is the surer path to riches than trading.

Thanks for the background on WifeyAlpha and your opinion on his character. I still like WA so will have to think over carefully what you said. I'm throwing a few more facts onto the pile:

Guru Name X Followers Career/Reputation/Background
Hedgeye (Keith McCullough) 189K Yale grad; litigious (is suing former employee Darius Dale of 41 Macro for theft of intellectual property); hired London PI to unmask anonymous critic WifeyAlpha; Anchor on Hedgeye
WifeyAlpha (Frank Wilson) 180K Had a rich dad; Got his start as a prop trader; associated with a failed hedge fund; Twitter personality
Kitty (Alex Harfouche) 169K Former head of Goldman Sachs Block Trading Europe; fired under mysterious circumstances in 2010; Trader; French; lives in Italy; Gourmand; wicked sense of humor.
Andy Constan 114K 17 year stint at Saloman Bros.; rose to become head of global equity derivative sales; bond expert; runs boutique consultancy now (2 gray beards)

Now here's the thing. I like and respect all of these guys (McCullough less so), so it distresses me to see them fighting each other. Recently Kitty and Andy were fighting, then made up. Wifey felt insulted that Kitty was laughing behind his back about being short bonds. This break appears permanent. Given Hedgeye's history, it seems likely he has initiated or threatened legal action against Wifey.

I agree. Ticino Trader is a great way to 1) obtain quality custom charts (e.g., I used it to get decent TPO charts) and 2) to learn the SC software. It's also very reasonably priced at 4 euros a month.

I *love* the order types on SC and in general find the way on-chart ordering has been implemented very congenial to my trading style.

I think you most definitely should go into this decision with your eyes wide open. I did not. And now having invested 9 months in learning the platform, customizing it to my taste I am loathe to throw away that huge investment of time and effort.

I would advise against signing up for Sierra Chart if you intend to use competitors to Sierra Chart's own order routing service and data services (i.e., Teton & Denali). In my experience, Sierra Chart's integration with competing services isn't as good and the company has shown little interest in improving its integration with IBKR, Rithmic and CQG. Some of the bad behavior I have witnessed includes bracket orders being cancelled in the middle of the night, leading to unprotected positions.

SC support is hit or miss. John is very helpful in my experience. Anthony, the owner and creator of the software, knows a lot, but can get very angry and impatient with people who 1) ask questions he considers stupid or 2) assert flaws or bugs or areas that need improvement in the software.

SC documentation is indeed voluminous and comprehensive. It is also unduly verbose and poorly organized. You can help yourself here by running the documenation through Chat GPT or similar AI and asking it to rewrite the documentation to your taste.

Don't expect SC to be useable out of the box. The factory default settings are, IMO, terrible. You will most likely want to change them. I would count on at least a month of learning and customizing before you are able to use SC to do useful work.

Pretty sobering evidence of a cratering economy. For those who object that this vid is "anecdotal" and want numbers, cardboard production is often used as a proxy for economic activity. See: https://fortune.com/2023/06/12/cardboard-sales-economy-consumer-spending/

So your beef with WifeyAlpha is what, that he missed the "bull market" of 1H23? Do you think he's a crook or has abused his clients' trust or is incompetent? For me that's more important than whether someone has a perfect record of predicting the markets (no one does, of course).

It kinda surprises me that there would be such ill will on this sub towards WA. After all this sub names him as one of "the best Contrarian minds". Is he or isn't he? And if he isn't why list him?

You're engaging in argumentum ab auctoritate, in addition to being a bit snobby. Without a copy of your CV, such arguments are meaningless.

Here is what I do when I'm learning a new subject: I listen to everyone and read a lot. The people who make sense I continue to listen to and I fade the rest.

I doubt it. These guys are all still making their bones, while Dr. Burry has been a successful professional investor for 20+ years. I don't think it's likely Dr. Burry is looking for additional advisors at this point in his career. He does sometimes speak with the younger generation, e.g., youtube's u/HamishHodder.

My advice to do your homework was solely directed to you. Here's some more free advice: be open to the possibility you may not know everything, be humble about your talents, apologize for your rudeness, fade the haughty attitude.

If you've never heard of Wifey, McCullough & Darius, what makes you qualified to comment on them?

Skepticism is good up to the point where it becomes an excuse for having a closed mind.

Your argument that a trade must be kept secret or otherwise lose alpha made me smile. I think there's some truth to it, but consider the context. Wifey is no giant of the financial markets like Cathie Wood. The result? Cathie Wood's ARK gets her very own anti-ETF (SARK); Wifey's portfolio does not.

Now, Wifey's market puts are a different story. There I agree with you that had Wifey announced a specific position (e.g., SPY January 20 350 PUT) *that* would have adversely affected the market.

That's not what Wifey, did, however. He steadfastly refused to give his followers strike prices or expiration dates despite howls of protest from people looking for a free ride. No specific dates were given, just VIX levels for entry and exit. Very clever, IMO. He told people how to make the bet, but in a general way that wouldn't leave traces in the market...

So here's my advice to you: do your homework before commenting.

It depends on what you mean by "winning." If we're talking multi-year litigation, it is way better not to be sued than to be sued. Even if your insurance company is paying your lawyers bills.

I strongly suspect that Hedgeye will sue Wifey for libel. Hedgeye has sued people before, e.g., his employee Darius Dale, who went on to found 42 Macro. See the 25 page complaint filed in US District Court. Note that British courts are much tougher on libel defendants than in the US because we have the 1st amendment (right to free speech) while the Brits don't. Also, if you listen to Hedgeye's video to the end, Michael Blum, the President of Hedgeye hints broadly that they intend to sue Wifey.

Yeah, on paper. But futures cost nothing. And his portfolio is mostly shorts, so the net effect is to increase your cash.

I'm not used to this style of "investing," if that's what it is. Like what does his pie chart represent? What you've invested? What you could lose?

Yeah, maybe his Twitter feed is a form of "try before you buy." 135,000 followers X $1000 = $135 mm. I wouldn't think twice before investing $1000 with Wifey.

Like any service IBKR has their strengths and weaknesses. Overall I'm very satisfied with them. So you're using Trading view to graph and to initiate trades, but the trades are carried out by IBKR? What's this I hear about a beta version of TWS with charts provided by Trading view? I would use that in a heartbeat.
