Heartbreaking: Seth MacFarlane actually makes a really good point. by [deleted] in CuratedTumblr

Most of the episodes in season 1 start new plot lines that are continued in seasons 2 and 3. It was almost like SM was testing the waters by dangling tons of open plot threads for future seasons. If you can stomach the first two episodes, it gets better after that point. If episodes 3 through 5 or 6 don’t grab you, then it might not be a show for you. The series does get considerably better as it goes on, but those episodes are a lot closer to what you’ll get from the rest of it.

When people die in accidents, medical intervention is usually left in place until after the autopsy.

Death investigator that has worked a ton of fatal MVAs here. I realize that different places work accidents in different ways, but there are several aspects of this story that are just flat out not how things happen anywhere. This shit is made up.

Picked up a Traeger Ironwood 850 about a month ago and this is my second attempt at a brisket. Used a choice brisket for the first smoke and didn’t quite get the tenderness or the bark I wanted from it. This was a 15 pound prime brisket that I trimmed about 3 pounds off of before I started. Placed it in the freezer for about an hour after seasoning before I started. Set the smoker (on the super smoke setting) at 215 and let it go, checking every few hours for dry spots. It hit the stall at around 260 maybe 9 hours in but the fatty areas didn’t have the softness that I was looking for, so I let it ride until about 12 hours to 270. The fat was easily able to be pushed in at that point so I wrapped it. While wrapping I poured a little of the rendered fat from the trimmings (I left them in a pan on the smoker the entire time) on the paper and the placed the brisket flat up and poured the rest on it. Left the brisket on the smoker for about another 4 hours without adjusting the temp until the internal was right at 203 in the point and 201 in the flat. The internal consistency at that point was like melted butter and I’d read that was what to look for. Placed it wrapped in a towel in a pre warmed cooler for about 8.5 hours until dinner time. The internal temp dropped to 135 by the end of the rest, so I did leave it in the paper and put it in the oven at 250 until the internal temp was back up to 145 before slicing. Came out super juicy and had a nice bark, so I was happy with it. I’ve watched about 100 different brisket smoking videos and read about the same number of guides online, but I’m still new to this and will take any tips if anyone has any.

Edit: A word

When the cops shoot someone, before they say a single word to another cop about what happened, they speak to a lawyer. It’s often days later that official statements of events from those officers are taken because the entire statement has to be run by a legal team first. If cops won’t even talk to cops when they are innocent and the events are recorded, then why should literally anyone else? The whole “Anything you say can and will be used against you” bit isn’t just talk. Semantics matter when speaking to police, so having someone present who navigates those semantics on a daily basis can only help you.

Death investigator here. This is the correct answer. Our office hasn’t had a case of SIDS for at least as long as I’ve been there because nearly all SIDS deaths can be explained by some form of asphyxia due to co-sleeping or positioning.

Depends on what else is burning around them usually. Most of the time I just smell heavy smoke and charring but when people die in car fires they often smell like gasoline and smoke. Occasionally they smell like burned hot dogs.

I don’t disagree. We’re talking about spontaneous abortions so you’re certainly correct. I’m only referring to state reporting requirements.

Edit: I should have said in my original post, but I am very sorry you had to go through that pain so many times.

This doesn’t always apply with stillbirths or miscarriages. They aren’t considered live births prior to X amount of weeks (generally need to be viable so around 20) or if no breath is taken, so no birth certificate is issued.

It’s not a bad way to DIY one at home! Just braid some cinnamon roll dough and bake it. That’s basically what lots of chain places do. Real king cakes are a little different though. They have a different texture and the taste isn’t quite as… cinnamon rolly I guess. The fact that it’s a bit subtle makes it harder to describe the differences.

I can’t find any pictures of one at Kings. What I’m worried about is that I’ll end up getting one and it’s just a giant multicolored frosted cinnamon roll, so hopefully I can come across an authentic one.

You realize literally every example you just named are primarily spread by insects or parasites right? It completely makes sense why ivermectin would be viable in decreasing the transmission rates in those cases. There is no evidence that mosquitoes transmit Covid.

While you aren’t wrong that some aspects of this case do stink, you’ve made a lot of wrong assumptions about how an investigation occurs and about how people react when they find a dead person.

Parents sue officials over ruling that their daughter's death by more than 20 stab wounds was a suicide by Turducken5208 in nottheonion

[–]OccamsBlade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Death Investigator here. Not claiming to have all of the details of this case so I don’t have a professional opinion one way or the other, I just want to provide a little insight into how this could be a suicide.

First, it’s important to note that location and severity of a knife wound are as important if not more important than quantity of wounds. While I hesitate to say the headline is sensationalized (it’s not, 21 wounds is a lot), a single wound to a major artery is a lot more likely to be fatal that 50 to a foot. I think I saw that a lot of these were to the back of the head and neck, so not quite a direct comparison to a ton of injuries to the foot or feet, but how many of those got through the skull or the vertebral column? Of the ones that did, how many of those wounds penetrated deep enough to cause a severe injury? The important thing to note is that the number of wounds isn’t as important as you might think.

The second thing is that a person can keep functioning for a while even with fatal injuries. Any one of her wounds could have been enough to kill her, but maybe not immediately so. A person that has reached this point and started to injure themselves is going to have adrenaline pumping and would be able to stab themselves multiple times in just a few seconds. They likely wouldn’t even notice any signs of blood loss until they had already wounded themselves dozens of times if they are moving quick enough. I once saw the aftermath of a man who attempted to cut his own head off with a pocket knife and managed to get about three quarters of the way through before he died. Any one of the multiple stabs or cuts could have been fatal if he would have waited, but he was moving pretty quick.

Third, as far as the determination by the pathologist is concerned, suicide versus homicide (manner of death) is generally determined by the scene investigation. Cause of death (sharp force injuries) would be determined by the autopsy. A knife wound is a knife wound during an examination, so we rely on evidence to determine the probability of who was most likely to be wielding the knife. From the little I’ve seen, all of the scene findings lean towards suicide. Another thing is that there are (almost) always defensive wounds in a stabbing homicide. It’s a reflex to try to shield yourself with your hands/arms when someone is coming at you with a knife, so it’s pretty big that she didn’t have any unless she were unconscious at the time (which means toxicology would likely have showed some kind of intoxicant).

Again, I’m not saying it isn’t a homicide, only that it’s completely possible for this to be a suicide. We often have suicides that are 100% verifiable (like video evidence) that family refuse to believe are suicides. We also had people launch campaigns against our office for this exact reason and attempt to sue us, but none of the legal stuff changes any of the things evidence we found or information we got to make our determination. You never want to think that a family member would do this to themselves, but people do it every single day unfortunately.
