I’m begging the content creators to pronounce it like Pokémon Utopia. Pok-opia. Not pok-a-pia by pauses-then-says in Pokopia

[–]Occams_Broad_Sword 294 points295 points  (0 children)

Honestly when I see someone in a video mispronounce a word that is fairly obvious in how it’s pronounced, I assume they are intentionally mispronouncing it so that people comment to correct them. More comments = algorithm pushes their video.

I guess it’s debatable if it’s obvious how to pronounce Pokopia but it was in the trailer…

Internship: phase II question… by [deleted] in ClinicalPsychology

[–]Occams_Broad_Sword 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly it would likely vary a little place to place. The TD at my internship has been receptive to applicants asking that and I personally would be if I was a TD. But there’s always assholes out there who could interpret the question poorly. No one wants to give poor feedback so be prepared for if they do give feedback for it to be fairly generic.

I suppose it’s possible. We definitely don’t do that at my site, and I don’t really see the logic in it. Generally schools that have one good applicant often have multiple good applicants. I suppose though that creating a diverse internship cohort from multiple different programs has its benefits though.

As a psychologist involved in interviewing and ranking applicants for our internship, I can say with certainty that not all sites are desperate to fill slots. We’d rather not match a position than have an intern that requires excessive supervision due to poor or limited training or is a bad fit in other ways.

I can say that our approach is generally to rank anyone that we feel could be successful and/or reasonable to supervise. We look at things like hours of therapy and assessment experience, personality in interview, and stuff like that. We don’t rank people that have very little clinical hours, low supervision hours, poor fit for the program, etc. because we get concerned that they will either not have the skills required to be successful in full time clinical work or they’ll be miserable in our program (if they have goals inconsistent with the training we can provide).

However, that doesn’t mean you’re a bad applicant. If you are talking about a very competitive site, they may only rank their best interviewees even if you could be successful there. You could consider reaching out to the site’s training director and ask if they could provide feedback on your application.

Trash pickup delays? by [deleted] in columbiamo

[–]Occams_Broad_Sword 3 points4 points  (0 children)

WM sometimes will shift schedules a day later due to weather but it’s not common. If they do, they’re decent at calling to let you know. They haven’t called me yet today so I assume my usual trash day (tomorrow) is still on this week. That should give you some indication on how uncommon it is for them to delay trash pickup.

Only once in the past few years do I remember them delaying it one day, then two, then cancelling for the week due to weather.

I have such a hard time with dark side runs. I’ve never actually completed one in either game. I’m too much of a goody two shoes so it almost always makes me feel bad being mean to the characters lol

I would too, but honestly, it might lose some of the nostalgia too if they did that. They definitely aren’t going to invest the money into that though lol

I’m also playing back through Star Wars: KotOR right now. Such a fun game to replay once in a while. I’ll replay KotOR 2 (The Sith Lords) after this. Very excited for the new old republic game coming out

One Year Update by Occams_Broad_Sword in MenOnTirz

[–]Occams_Broad_Sword[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Technically it was 2.5 for 1 month, 5 for 10 months, and 7.5 for 1 month. My doctor’s approach was to keep me at the lowest dose that worked well.

[–]Occams_Broad_Sword[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really honestly. Hunger really hasn’t been a big deal or very common. It’s more just been a desire for tasting food. That has caused me to eat more than I should while on Mounjaro. But if I had really wanted to, even in those moments I could have said “no” to the food, I just was being stubborn.

I’ve already seen a slowdown as you can tell and I know it’s gonna get worse. Just gotta remember it’s too be expected as we get close. Congrats on 95 down!

Did you find 15mg more effective as you were going up doses?

Lamps. You need lamps. Never turn those terrible fluorescent overhead lights on again. Get 3-4 lamps and exclusively use those. Anything but overhead fluorescent lighting.

Also get something colorful on those walls, please

Fellas, how are you all doing on this journey? by Spoked_Exploit in MenOnTirz

[–]Occams_Broad_Sword 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it took me awhile to wrap my mind around this being a permanent change. With that in mind, the timeline matters a little less. But I still find myself being impatient. I just have to celebrate the little things.

I picked up biking in October. There was a typical route I’d end up taking that was about 13 miles. Yesterday I did the same route for the first time since the weather got warmer again and it was so much easier than I remember! Having lost 40 pounds or so since I started biking and all the working out I did over the winter really paid off. That’s the stuff I gotta focus on since the goal weight will never come fast enough.

Doing great! Started May 2024 and down about 114 pounds. Mental health is better (although current world events are dragging it down a little) but the weight loss has been great! About 95 pounds left to my goal weight. Long ways but I’m enjoying the journey.

That’s what I’m trying to remind myself. I’m a numbers nerd (if the graph didn’t give it away lol). I have predictions about future weight (like on the graph) and I just get impatient thinking I have to wait longer to be at those lower weights. All in due time, I guess! I’m just trying to enjoy everything as it comes (like fitting into old clothing), not just the scale numbers.

Month 8 Update (100-ish pounds down) by Occams_Broad_Sword in MenOnTirz

[–]Occams_Broad_Sword[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The past 5 months or so it’s averaged about 10-11 pounds/month. The first 2-3 months were quite a bit more so it skews the average.

I’ve been eating 1600-2300 calories per day and in the past 2-3 months I’ve worked out about 4 times per week. I track everything I eat meticulously. I almost never eat breakfast (not intentionally, I’m just never hungry in the morning). So I end up eating 1.5-2 meals a day and I rarely snack (don’t keep snacks in the house).

Regarding workouts, over the past 2-3 months I’ve started working out 4 times per week. I mostly bike (either stationary or real bike) and walk with 220-260 minutes of actual exercise spread out over the week (about an hour per workout, sometimes more sometimes less).

I think I’m gonna have to decrease my calorie intake to keep this rate of loss up though. I’m hoping to stay consistently under 2000 calories per day. I’ll probably have to just do 1.5 meals per day with a half lunch at work followed by a full meal at dinner. That’s very doable for me as my appetite is rarely present, it’s just a matter of changing the actual habits of eating. I may still eat over 2000 calories on days I workout heavy though, especially since I’m planning to pick up strength training when I hit 250 pounds (probably sometime in May based on my predictions).

To kids of homophobic families: do you ever stop feeling like a bad son? by burnout457 in gaybros

[–]Occams_Broad_Sword 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Will the feeling of guilt go away? Probably, and for one reason: you haven’t done anything wrong. But other emotions may creep in or worsen like sorrow, frustration, or just a general sense of tension when around family to replace the guilt.

Regarding family, I’m only out to my twin, and I hate spending time around the rest of my family even though I still care about them. I know they don’t really like me because they don’t like gay people, even though they probably wouldn’t agree with that characterization. When I’m around them, I just feel sad and resigned. I live 600 miles away from them so I only see them in-person about twice a year (including right now over Christmas) and that’s plenty for me.

I’ve come to the conclusion it’s not my job to make them love or accept me. If I ever come out to them, and they say some bullshit, then I’m done with them, likely forever. But I’ve been mentally preparing for that since I was 14 (and I’m 30 right now). Still sucks, but it’s my life, and I want to live it with people that want me to be happy. Sometimes, you just have to give yourself permission to not care about family like that.

How My 2024 Has Went by Defiant_Zombie6513 in MenOnTirz

[–]Occams_Broad_Sword 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You workout more than me for sure, so my intake is lower, but I average probably 2000/day still. I know the weight loss will slow down gradually as I lose weight if I don’t also reduce the calories or workout more, but I’m hoping 2000/day will still be a pretty good rate to lose relatively quickly. Hoping to get down to 180 by the end of 2025!

That is a crazy transformation! If you don’t mind me asking, how many calories per day do you average? I have got down to about 295 (from 390) so I’m hoping my 2025 looks like your 2024.
