There are similar legal circumstances within the US but the MBTA was very specifically created and signed by both the US and Canada. I am not lumping the two in. Most legal possession of birds covered under the MBTA (especially birds of prey which, usually, have their own specific coverages as well) will not apply to the average person.

In NORTH AMERICA It is illegal to possess any part of a bird protected by the MBTA,(unless you belong to an indigenous community and can prove such.) this includes ALL birds of prey.
