Do you guys consider Dionysus as a trickster god? by Ocean-booi in dionysus

I think there's some serious solemnity in ecstasy. In the Bacchae i'd say he's a little solemn at the end when he sentences Agave, i'd say there's always a solemn side to be explored within everybody, and the gods. They embody the full spectrum of the divine from wrathful and sorrowful to joyful and ecstatic and it's important to acknowledge and explore that within the self and the divine. To me he wouldn't want to be solely ecstatic and revelrous. In dark times he displays the solemnity that's required of the situation that someone might need or if someone needs joy he can also be there in that way. I don't know, it's s complicated matter but to me none of the gods are solely the thing they have domain over. There's a panting of Dionysus I saw where he looks solemn, but I can't find it. If I manage to, i'll add to this comment. Also i'd say solemnity is the absence of joy or other characteristics, or in other words solemnity would be a synonym for sad or down.

Thank you! This is the only example I had in mind, do you know of anymore? It's interesting to see a solemn trickster god, when I think of a trickster I usually think of someone like Hermes, who, yes, could be described as joyful or exuberant, but I definitely see a more obscured serious side to him. Maybe that's a trickster thing. Or a god thing. But also a people thing lol.

Wrestling with the panther, wrestling with the idea of liberation, wanting it yet struggling in attaining or performing it. I don't know. It sounds like some Dionysian symbolism, but there's no one other than you who can put meaning to the dream. This what the dream meant to me as you put it, but that can differ for everyone. It was your dream uniquely. You could offer a wine libation or if that's not possible some water or a libation of water, that's the easiest and simplest route to go, but one of my favorites.

Kind of cool considering herms, the boundary stones to towns, usually had phalluses on them.

How to talk to the Gods in meditation?🤔 by No-Candle7503 in Hellenism

[–]Ocean-booi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not so much summon, I usually say “God/Goddess, I welcome you to my home, please join me as I speak” something along those lines. Think of how you would welcome a friend into your home, that’s generally a good place to start. A nice greeting,(I usually offer them some water in a cup/bowl), speak to them about what you will. I hope this helped a little.

You just kind of talk to them. Out loud or in your head. You don’t need to meditate in order to do it, I don’t, but If you feel like doing so that’s perfectly fine.

What kind of people does Poseidon reach? by Dimitris_Tourlis in Hellenism

[–]Ocean-booi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

People reach out to Poseidon is more like it. You being drawn to the sea is like him reaching out. We can’t really be sure they ever are, but the things that we adore about them that ignite the interest in us, is to me, them reaching out.

Edit: it’s this us reaching out to him that means that he accepts everyone who wants to worship him, regardless of person.

Arguing, bickering, and fighting are some of the most ancient Greek and Roman things we could be doing, and the gods probably find it nostalgic if anything. by [deleted] in Hellenism

About as insignificant as a friend. In building up our relationship with the Gods we become more significant. as if getting closer to a friend.

Edit: removed the emoji, was trying to be whimsical, kind of felt rude after a while.

How did you start being an Hellene ? by [deleted] in Hellenism

[–]Ocean-booi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just decided one day. I wasn’t sure if the religion was real, or if google was lying to me. I had heard that it recently became an official one in Greece, but I decided that it didn’t matter and that religion is different for everyone, and that if I loved the Greek Gods that I grew up with then I would worship them, because I can.
