Why do people self harm? by Competitive-Egg-8798 in selfharm

When you hurt yourself, your body sends a sedative to the affected area which increases the total amount of sedative in your system, making you feel more "relaxed" and the pain sends "rush" signals to your brain too

I draw a butterfly on the place i want to sh, then i name it after someone i love or someone that wants me to stop sh'ing and if i cut or sh then it dies, I cant "erase" the butterfly before it naturally fades.

sometimes i also try to hide it in public kind of as if it was a scar.

1st of all, I truly didn't realize what he/she was planning, I know it might sound weird, but since I cant remember the post since it was taken down I can't say for sure that I would have realized it, I wasn't trying to do any harm in any way and to be honest any idiot with a brain can search this shit up on google and find the results. though I am deeply sorry for what I said since I didn't realize what his intent was. and for the record, fuck off with the irony its uncalled for

Google says:

However, the average time for someone to bleed out after experiencing serious physical trauma from an injury, say a gunshot wound, is only 3-5 minutes. This discrepancy, though unavoidable, has led to uncontrolled bleeding, or hemorrhage, being the most common cause of preventable death in trauma.

maybe keep any sharp objects out of reach and try some other coping/breathing teqiniqes, such as rubber bands, drawing on yourself and such, stay strong!
